Hockey Pool Rules

The Draft:

The Draft will take place on Saturday September 24th at 1900 hrs.  All teams will have the following break down of players:

  • Seven (7) Forwards (RW/C/LW)

  • Three (3) Defensemen

  • One (1) Goalie

The draft will be the standard order and not snaked.  For example:  The person who gets the first pick in the first round, will get the first pick in every corresponding round after the first.

During the draft is the only time any manager can trade with any other manager.  These trades will not go against your total trade limit.  Each trade will have to be of even value in terms of picks or players.

  • For Example:  E. Stan trades his 1st round pick (1st overall), 3rd round pick (31st overall), and his 11th round pick (151st overall) to D. Stan for D. Stan's 1st round pick (7th overall), 2nd round pick (22nd overall), and 7th round pick (49th overall)

  • Example 2:  S. Mazerolle trades his 1st round pick (10th overall) and 2nd round pick (25th overall) to C. Paul for Markus Naslund, and C. Paul's 4th round pick (47th overall).

  • A manager at any time can declare if he wishes to trade one of his draft picks.  If it is that managers current pick, there will be a maximum of two minutes for trade negotiations.

The maximum time limit for each pick will be two minutes.  This rule is in place to quicken the process of drafting players.  If you exceed your two minute time limit, the next person in the order will then have priority over you for that pick.  The next person in the order will then have two minutes to make their selection at which time, it would return back to the person who's pick was skipped (with another two minute time frame).

Scoring System:

The scoring system this year will differ from the 2003 - 2004 pool.  The following is a breakdown of the point distribution for this years pool.

    Forwards:

  • Two (2) points will be awarded for each goal

  • One (1) point will be awarded for each assist

  • +/- will be taken at face value (i.e. a +5 rating will award the player 5 points)

    Defenseman:

  • One (1) points will be awarded for each goal

  • Two (2) point will be awarded for each assist

  • +/- will be taken at face value (i.e. a +5 rating will award the player 5 points)

    Goalies:

  • Three (3) points will be awarded for each win

  • Five (5) points will be awarded for each shutout

  • One (1) point will be awarded for each OTL or SOL

  • The players Goals Against Average will be multiplied by 100 and subtracted from the players points  For Example:  Mikka Kipprusoff has 10 wins (30 points) 2 shutouts (10 points) and a GAA of 2.00.  Mikka would have a point total of -160 (20 + 10 - 200)

  • Each Goalie taken, must play a total of 18 games prior to December 24th 2005 or you will be forced to trade your goalie on December 26th 2005.  This trade will be a free trade and will not effect your total limit.

  • If your goalie gets injured during the season, each manager is forced to trade that goalie for a replacement.  This trade does not count against your trade limit.

Trades:

Each team manager will have a maximum of five trades available to them during the season.  The first two trades are free where the next three will be charged at a rate of $2 per trade.  All monies acquired during the trading process will be put into the pot for the end of the year winner.

  • What does a trade consist of:  A trade is one manager trading one player to the free agent pool for one player.

  • Exceptions to the trade limit:  Any manager who selects a player during the draft, which does not play a single game within the first full week of the season due to an injury prior to the start of the season (October 9 - 15), may trade that player for free for any player in the free agent pool.  This trade process must be executed by October 18th 2005.  To prevent any conflicts, the manager with the lower draft order will have priority for a player.  The player traded in then enters the free agent pool and may be picked up by any manager.

  • A section for lists of transactions will be updated on this website when a transaction occurs.  There will also be a list of transactions included in the weekly updates sent to all the managers.

  • Trades between managers is allowed during the draft only.  Please see the above draft section.

Weekly Updates:

Weekly updates will be supplied to each manager within the hockey pool (via e-mail).  I will attempt to get all stats updated on Sunday.  Please keep in mind I do have a family and it might not be as quick as the previous years pool but it will still get done on the Sunday (hopefully prior to 2300 hrs).  We are also projecting to have 50% more people in this years pool which will probably extend the time frame from 3 hours to 5 hours of updating (and yes if it like last year, I will hate the ESPN website by the third week of the year).

    Current Thoughts for the Updates:

  • Current standings (with rankings, points gained/lost - yes I have seen this before) in the week, previous week ranking

  • Top 10 Forwards - with manager name and point totals

  • Top 5 Defensemen - with manager name and point totals

  • Top 5 Goalies - with manager name and point totals

  • Hot and Cold list (Top 5 in the + and Top 5 in the - for the week)

  • Notable injuries (your help would be appreciated with this incase I miss the news)

If you have any suggestions to add to the update, please e-mail me by clicking here
