Notes

I wasn’t the producer on the original PC version (though I played it during development and was a huge fan of Julian & Nicks early stuff like LaserSquad) but I was the producer on the PlayStation version. We added some great new FMV to the PlayStation version and also fixed the bug to do with level difficulty – the PlayStation version of X-COM 1 is the only version that has a ‘real’ superhuman level… (a worthy challenge for any X-Com fan). The Japanese originally requested ultra-violent FMV (which we duly provided) but then got cold feet – so the final version had to be edited so that the requested gore would be removed.

By the time we’d started on the PlayStation version we were also developing Terror From the Deep and Apocalypse and it really felt that we were creating a new and exciting franchise – hence the rename of the title in Europe to “X-COM: Enemy Unknown” (previously the PC version was known as UFO: Enemy Unknown)
