Editing the Sound File

First Thing to do, Back up your sound file. You can do this by going to the directory where close combat is installed.

Default is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\A Bridge Too Far\sounds\".

What I do is make a new folder there named "original". Then right click on the "Sounds.cc2" file and select copy then right click on the new directory you just made and select paste.

Next, go back to the folder where you unzipped the CC2 sound editor. Paste a copy of the sound file there. This is just a Temp file that you are going to use to edit. You can delete it after you are done installing you're new edited sound file.

Now open CC2Hack.exe, In the left pane you should have all of the wav files I included in this zip, as well as the "Sounds.cc2" file. Double click on the "Sounds.cc2" file to bring up the contents of the sound file. You will now see that in the right pane.

Notice sounds 7 thru 23 are titled background. These are all the background sounds that you will hear when the battle slows down, or you just start the game. double click on any of the sounds listed in the right pane to listen to them. Be sure to let it play out before you click on another. Some sounds seem as though they are finished, when they are not.

When you have found the sound you want to replace, click on that sound, then click replace. In the load window that comes up click on the file that you want to replace it with, then click on open.

From there you can chose to listen to either of these sounds, or to Cancel the replace or to go ahead with the replace.

Once you're Satisfied with your editing, simply close the program.

Now Copy the "Sounds.cc2" file that you created in the directory where the Sound editor is installed, This is your new edited Sound File.

Navigate to the directory "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\A Bridge Too Far\sounds" and paste the new file there over the old file. Be sure to click "yes" to overwrite. There you go. You have now successfully edited your file.

Start close combat II and make sure all is well, 999,999,999 times out of 1,000,000,000 it is. If it isn't, simply copy the backup we made of the original, back to the original directory.

Now you can go back and delete the Temp "Sounds.cc2" file we made, if you want to. Or if you plan on editing it some more, leave it. Its up to you. Keep in mind the sound file is a pretty large file.

******Suggestions

**If you have a slower machine, take out the longer running background sounds. And replace them with the shorter sounds that I've enclosed.

**If you'd like to have more sounds to edit into the file, They are readily available from a number of sources for free on the web. Simply go to your favorite search engine (I like Dogpile.com) and enter "free wav files" into the search box.

**If you enjoy editing your file, and want to learn more about it, read the File enclosed with the sound editor.
