Silver Oracles

(Thinkers, Futurists, Sages)

History

One question always comes up when the Silver Oracles are mentioned......How much do they really know? For quite some time there were known to be a select group of individuals thoughout Ukiyo who were able to commune with spirits which had not yet been born, they could see into the hazy future and make predictions, sometimes these predictions were right, sometimes they were wrong, but even when they were wrong, they didn’t miss the mark by much. The first of these oracles were among those who had been trapped in the city during the great sundering, but when the gates reopened, similar souls from dozens of other worlds came to the city, a place where they could see the future more clearly. Over time these Oracles banded together and began teaching students there ways, when asked, they simply stated that it was time for destiny to take it’s place in the city. Apparently, they had seen it coming for quite some time.

Thus the group known as the Silver Oracles was born. Spread across schools in many parts of the city, they selected an array of the brightest students, the most charismatic leaders and the most dedicated scholars, these new recruits were the next generation of Oracles, a public face for a mysterious group who seemed unconcerned by the ways of the rest of the world. Through a combination of careful judgement and amazing insight, the group has quickly risen through the ranks of the Factions to become a major power.......much to the ire of many other groups. Despite this most of the city’s citizens consider them a valuable asset to the city especially in these troubled times.

Tactics

As far as the other factions of the city are concerned, the Silver Oracles have no tactics. They always seem to be flitting from one situation to the next befoe anyone has had the chance to notice them. But this is just the way they like it. As long as the Silver Oracles keep ahead of everyone and make the appropriate probability alterations and set up the right situations, they figure they can control the fortunes of the city and hopefully keep themselves somewhere near the top. The Silver Oracles often sell their services to the other factions, often gaining a little ground here and there with every deal, it is only in recent decades that they have truly become a threat in the city’s politics, and as a result their plans have had to become every more elaborate and far reaching as the other factions begin to wonder what might unfold around them. Of course things don’t always go to plan, as fate can be a fickle mistress, but still the Silver Oracles do come out ahead more often than they fall behind.

Character Concepts

The Silver Oracles have a number of types among their ranks, but each has the common goal of focusing on the future in some manner or another. The most common and often stereotypical of the Oracles are research assistants for major comapnies throughout the city. They often find their skills being used to see future trends so that companies can capitalise on these trends before they even take root. Along a similar line are the engineers who find themselves pre-empting major technological shifts, ensuring their companies remain on the forefront of the technological wave no matter what happens throughout the rest of the city. The two other common groups found among the Oracles are the recluses, who find that they can only concentrate on the future if the distractions of the present are kept away, and the Neo-amish who see a dire future indeed and seek to distance themselves from all technology before the danger arises.

Typical Followers

The Silver Oracles find themselves surrounded by the deepest thinkers of all types. Members of exlusive high intelligence organisations flock to them for their insight and knowledge, psychologists strive to understand how their minds work and how to tap that potential for the rest of society, and even some members of the disabled community who have been forced to develop incredible minds to overcome their physical impairments.

Rival Factions

Dionysians - If they listened occasionally they’d be dangerous. They rarely look to the future, so fate ignores them.
Gatekeepers - Their reliance on technology and the city makes them very strong but very limited.
Oneiromancers - No matter where you go, there you are. Fate follows you and out of respect, so do we.
Patriarchs - We can see where the road will lead them. They deserve every tormented minute of it.
The Junta - Even in the darkness Fate can see your foolish games. Tricks of the light won’t change the course of history.
Xenophobe’s Fist - Their view is too narrow. Surely they can’t be that blind.
