Teen pregnancy is a major concern for sexually active young adults today. Not only does teen pregnancy result in many young women dropping out of high school, but these are the moms that are most likely to abuse to their children. It's often difficult to imagine what young mothers have to deal with if they have to raise a child by themselves.
Fortunately for young mothers, there are people and organizations out there to help you. Planned Parenthood located in Cleveland is just one example.
According to the National Campaign Against Teen Pregnancy Key Statistics, the United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy and births in the Western industrialized world. Teen pregnancy costs the United States at least $7 billion each year. Obviously more needs to be actively done to prevent teen pregnancy and educate young women and men on the dangers of unprotected sex.
What can we do?
increase awareness of correct and incorrect use of condoms
increase education about sex and teens and how to deal with peer pressure
make contraception more readily available for teens who have decided to have sex
wake up and realize this problem won't be solved by always preaching abstinence
