TO FRIENDSHIP
Once, shared we time and tide and words -
And then the ribbon broke,
the link between us gone Like smoke -
But in a corner of my mind, you live and write and while
I have those memories of you,
What can I do, but smile?
For as the poet wrote….
The moving finger writes and having writ, moves on
Nor all thy piety nor wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a line
Nor all thy tears wash out one word of it.
Nor could it ever wash from memory
The words we shared and wrote and dreamed -
Though is the ribbon gone
Still friendship's endless memory waltzes on.

ISLANDS
Memories like islands in my psyche,
floating on a gently rolling sea;
brilliant green mosaics in my mind’s eye
bringing fond remembrances to me.
Friend and mentor, boy and man together
sparkled in the wit you freely shared.
And though my memories may fade to golden,
please know you have a friend somewhere that cared.
For friendship built on laughter and compassion,
cannot be destroyed in just a day,
my prayer will be that someday, somewhere, somehow
the tide will turn and bring the castaway.
