HORROR/TERROR/MYSTERY

 L I G H T R E A D I N G

         I will admit
         old KOONTZ is cool
         and one should
         read his books
         at school.
         But KING, is King,
	    he 'breaks the ice'
         if you want Scaring
         at a price.
         If Terror is your
         'special thing'
         then Stephen's Horror
         has that 'ring'.
         Read Salem's Lot and
         Different Seasons;
         don't admit to
         any reasons
         why you won't
  	    turn off the light,
	    when your clock shows

                      ONE WAY TICKET

The underworld is dark and deep
with Nameless Things that do not sleep.

Their slimy paths run here and there,
beneath the earth, inside their lair.

And when the dead are laid to sleep,
in lowered coffins in the deep,
they do not wail or sadly weep.

The soundless word is sent to all
who live in that horrific hall -

`Come quickly brothers! - Death has sent
the husks of those so lately spent,

in Life their evil made them rich
                 but now they`re ours!
                                     - so
                                       life`s
                                           a
                                           bitch...

          SINGLE TICKET

`Ok mister! - time to leave.
	 This is where we stop,
	 we don`t go any further`
	 The guard was shaking
my arm as I woke up.

	 Peering out of the window
	 I rubbed my eyes, muttering
	 `Never heard of this place
	 it isn`t in my book`

	 The guard grinned.
	 `We don`t stop here much.
         head office has this motto:
	 "train knows where its going"
Me?... I just do my job`

	 The Customer is King!
	 trailed through my mind
as I stared along the track.
I don`t know how much time
         passed before a low noise
	 caught my attention.

	 In the booking-office
a man sat looking at me
	 as he shuffled the
	 papers in his hand

         `You`re early,
         there`s some kind of mix-up`
         He sighed, It sometimes happens
	 but it don`t make a difference`

	 My anger erupted now.
         `If I don`t close a major deal
         in Denver today`, I screamed,
         `Your company better have
         good lawyers buddy!`

         `Take it easy mister`,
         replied the clerk
         in a sympathetic tone.
         `The deals`s ok,
	 someone else will fix it.

         I`ll be right with you
         soon as I sort this
	 paper problem out.

	 Y`see, according to
	 the schedule
	 your train was due
	 to crash tomorrow`.

         SOMETHING`S COMING

           Tapping, tapping, in the night
something awful - full of fright.
             Something dark, something small,
              something downstairs in the hall

                Something lost, something found,
is it square or is it round?
                  Something shuffles, has it feet
or claws or hands to tear up meat?

Does it scream - or is it mute?
Whatever it is I fear the brute.
Now it`s breathing on the stair
and in my bed I say a prayer.

I never used to fear the gloom
but now I shiver in my room.......

            GOOD DAY FOR DYING

        `It`s a good day for dying`
        I turned, startled
        because I had not seen
        the stranger on my left
as I stood on the ravine.

                `Sun`s up - sky`s clear
a man could go to Hell
                on a morning like this`
and never know he`d bin there`

I didn`t know what to say
        and I didn`t care anyway
because the answer to my problem
        lay over the edge,
        three hundred feet down
        onto the rocks.

What the fuck did I care
                about the morning
                or the bloody sky
                when there was nothing
                worth living for?

And who the shit was this
        guy anway?
        Oh yeah that`s right
        - another poxy do-gooder
come to save me from myself.
        Well not this time jose!
        Not this time!

                Looking down I felt
                a sharp relief sweep
                over me as I prepared
                to jump over.
                Love, money, job -
                all down the drain,
                so-called friends
                `unavailable`

        Now the sanctimonious
        bastards would come along
        to the morgue and i.d.
        my pieces, muttering,
        as they looked
        at each other,
        `Christ -poor Jack, if
        only he had talked to
        someone`

                Funny how _all the `someones`
                were too busy when
                I turned up drunk
at two in the morning crying
                on their doorphones.

`It`s a good day if ya
        manage to die first time`
        The voice to my left
        reminded me the tall
        stranger had not gone away.
Ironic! I was going to die
        and he was starting to
        annoy me!

                I swung `round facing him
and saw his face in shadow
                under the wide brimmed hat
but his eyes were set back
                and maybe they were dark
                or something because they
                did not reflect the light.

        `Look, I`m pissed enough`
        I shouted `and if you`re some
        sort of holy moses you`re
        wasting your time -
        I don`t believe in God
the Devil or any of that crap
        so save your breath!`

               `Aint trying to stop ya`
he said `the rules say I only
gotta warn ya - that`s all
in case ya complain later see?`

`Fuck off and go to Hell!`
        I screamed `I`m ending it now!`
and I threw myself over the edge.

                I cannot describe
                the way I fell but
                know I landed back
                from where I came.

        That was ten years ago
and still I live and relive
        the endless action
        and before I jump
        hear the repetition
        from the tall stranger
        ever on my left

                `It`s a good day for dying`
                `Sun`s up - sky`s clear
a man could go to Hell
                on a morning like this`
and never know he`d bin there`....

        NIGHT MUST FALL

        Creatures
        dark
        and foul
        of sight
        bring me
        terror
        in the
        might

                I wander
                in
                the vaults
                of Hell
                pursued
                by what? -
                I cannot tell.

        The pain
        and anguish
        of this
        place,
        the sins
        of all
        the human race
        are here
        before
        my sight

                and then
                I wake
                safe
                in my bed
                to see
                the
                morning light.
