One of Jim Henson Productions' only ventures into animation, Muppet Babies was a widely popular, Emmy awarding winning program that lasted 7 seasons. It also inspired a lasting trend for making shows about younger versions of existing, popular characters. You could even argue that X-Men: Evolution is indirectly descended from this.
Cartoons characters typically have larger heads than normal people. But to also look like toddlers, Muppet Babies actually have heads the size of their torsos. The hardest part about making Nightcrawler one of them was making sure he didn't look too much like any one character. Personality wise, he's got Kermit's adventurous spirit, Skeeter's athleticism, Fozzie's clownishness, and Gonzo's love of being different(as well as three fingers and blue fur).
