Pecan Leaf Scorch Mite

Sept.30, 2005 Pecan leaf scorch mite is abundant in many pecan orchards this season. The scorch mite populations are reduced by predatory mites that are also very common. There are many mite species on the leaf and the predatory mites feed on all the species. Therefore, pecan leaf scorch mites can reach damaging levels even when predatory mites are present. Effective chemical control is possible on nut-bearing trees with Vendex, Dicofol, Kelthane, Savey, Acramite, Envidor or Sulfur. Release of predatory mites is effective but takes about 3-4 weeks to control the scorch mites.
