Pecan Phylloxera, Phylloxera devastatrix
The range of this pest is expanding in Georgia. Schley is most susceptible Nymphs emerge just after budbreak and begin feeding. You have to control the insects at this time. Lorsban and Provado are effective chemical controls. Once they are established in the galls they cannot be controlled until the next season. The emerging nymphs can be seen on the emerging buds by regular scouting with a hand lens or stereo microscope from late March through April. Pecan Leaf Phylloxera, Phylloxera notabilis, is also found but rarely is economically important.
