Paris, Texas

No doubt that the film, based on American life but directed by non-American master, is not like Hollywood. The film Paris, Texas is not like American neither in mood nor in style, though the setting is Texas and it uses some very special Texas landscapes which together with weird music create a depressing atmosphere of great loneliness. Its main hero is a very lonely man. He was lost from his family for a long time when suddenly he was found and brought home by his brother. He seems to be almost a savage and at first he even refuses to speak. But due to the gentle care of his brother he partly recovers from his great depression (or maybe it is some mental disorder - not too serious though - the only strange thing that remains is that he cannot sleep at all). At home he finds out that his son lives with his brother's family. It happens that the boy remembers him, and easily gets used to the fact that now he has two fathers. Charles lives for some time in his brother's home.

So they leave together for some time. Then, partly under the influence of his brother's wife, and partly under the his son's influence, he decides to go and find his wife. He takes his son with him and without saying a word to his brother and his wife they go. The father and son have a single clue for finding her: they know that once a month she goes to the bank to put money in their son's account. They are lucky to see her and follow her car. It a fine episode. Finally they reach a house. Charles orders his son to wait for him in the car and enters the house. It happens that this house functions like virtual public house (with everything except sex) and his wife works there. He manages to see her and talk to her but she didn't recognize him. He decides to come back later alone. So he does. This time he makes the girl recognize him and we learn a terrible and cruel love story of a love that was destroyed by the man's drunkenness. He tells her about their son but what is really strange is he does not want to reunite the family though the girl seems to want it. So he leaves the son with her and goes away.
