Saint-Exupery
It is difficult to find a really good French movie. Usually they all are either too melodramatic or too superficial. Saint-Exupery is one of a few films that I really liked though I watched it a long time ago and I don't remember the plot very well. There is no much plot anyway, it just describes scenes from the life of the famous writer who was a pilot by profession. It is lyrical film, very poetic. In some aspects it reminds me of the books by Saint-Exupery, he writes in the same manner: soft and lyrical but at the same time dramatic like his life. He is known by his Le Petit Prince, a wonderful fairy tale. It maybe a little too moralistic but very beautiful. He also wrote short stories and tales in the same style. He served in Air Forces as a war pilot and this had a great inflience on all his life. He realised the danger of prominent death and perhaps that's why he appreciated any beauty in everything. One can say he had a poetic perception.
This writer due to his profession had been in many countries. He paid attention not to the sightseeings but to the people, their customs and traditions. People around him changed one another like in caledoscope. He loved charming women of course like real men do, especially French.
The actors in this film are good and their playing is magnificent. There is a very subtle humour in it too, in Exupery's style. And it is really marvellous that the whole films looks like a book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This film reflected his life indeed.
