Want to search the web?
- Start with Metacrawler. This is a search engine which searches through the databases of most of the other search engines. Good place to start.
- For subjects related to the sciences, eduacation, and technology try Infoseek.
- For more sites created by non-professionals try Webcrawler. This search engine is also more likely to give you unrelated results though.
- If you really DON'T want to find what you're looking for, try Aol NetFind
- If you're looking for pictures or sound, Alta-Vista is a good place to start.
- Other search engines include: Hotbot, Northern Lights, and Yahoo.
Don't have an E-mail account?
- Y.S.U. Gives you your own UNIX E-mail account. To claim it, simply go to the 4th floor of Meshel Hall, and there are materials there for you to apply for your account. The disadvantage of this account is that it is accesible only through the YSU network, NOT the internet. This means that you can ONLY check your mail by either using a computer on the YSU campus, or by dialing in to the network from home, over your phone line.
- For an internet based account there are many FREE services, such as: Hotmail, Yahoo, Angelfire, and Lycos. The advantage of this kind account is that you can access it from almost ANYWHERE. All you need is to be at a computer which is wired in to the internet. It's also a lot simpler and more user friendly then the YSU accounts, you can use multiple colors and fonts in your messages, as well as insert pictures and sound.
