It seemed so perfect
Like Cinderella and her prince
The words
Like an unending waltz.
The two of them
Hand in hand
Holding on for dear life
Making false promises
Knowing somewhere along the line
It had to end.
He caresses her cheek
And looks solemnly in her eyes
Praying she'll understand
That this isn't good-bye
At least not forever
He found her once and
He'd find her again.
She looks at him
Memorizing every look, smell
Even the sound of his voice
Knowing their time is nearly spent
The tears slowly fall
But she gives a brave smile.
At last the clock sounds
Breaking the spell
He grasps her hand
For the last time
Unable to look in her eyes
One more time
He walks away
Leaving her alone.
Their midnight came all too soon
Though the spell was broken
The memory of what they had
Was the glass slipper
And will never mean good-bye
As long as it still sparkles
In their hearts.
