THE COST OF BEING RICH
Chapter Nine
The only thing I remember was the fuming
anger in me. Dawson had been a gentleman. He had shone that night at dinner.
And now I found myself alone in our staterooms. This isn’t the way it was
supposed to happen!
"Would you like me to check on her,
sir?" Lovejoy asked me.
My eyes cleared. Yes! Of course! It was so
simple. We were on a ship, for goodness sakes! It’s not as if she could just
run off.
"Go!"

"A steerage party?" I exploded at
Lovejoy. "What is she doing there? What has gotten into that girl?
Lovejoy, what was she doing?"
"She was laughing."
"At what?"
"It wasn’t at something. She was
laughing because she was happy."
"And why was she so happy?"
"Because she was in his arms."
