This is an unofficial Web Site. I have created this page solely on my own. Contents of this Web Page are not the official views of, or endorsed by, the U.S. Government, the Department of Defense, or the U.S. Navy. The opinions expressed here are solely the opinions of the author. Information herein has been gathered from numerous sources and my own experiences.

Hi, my name is Cheryl. My husband, Glen, and I have lived in "Bella Napoli," better known as Naples, Italy for the past six years, arriving on October 2, 1996. We have been in the U.S. Navy for the past 21 years, and have previously been stationed in Groton/New London, CT, aboard the USS Fulton, and in Norfolk Virginia aboard the USS America, and two tours at Fleet Training Center (FTC). We have two daughters, the oldest is also in the Navy.

I try to get involved as much as possible with anyone transferring to our area, especially if you have never transferred overseas before. This can be a very stressful time, and there are a lot of things that must be taken care of prior to your PCS date. I will include lists on this page that will give you some suggestions of times within which you should ship your vehicle, arrange and plan your "quick-ship," storage shipment, and your final pack-out.

My first bit of advice is look forward to your arrival in Naples, it is a beautiful city, and there is more to see and do here than you can ever get done in one tour stationed here. After we had accepted orders to Naples we had numerous people tell us that we were crazy and that they would never accept those orders. Upon talking to many people we discovered that those that told us not to come to Naples were those that were never stationed here, they had only visited on port calls on ships. Of those that we talked to that were stationed here we were told that they would accept our orders in a "heartbeat." We have never been sorry for moving here and extended several times. In other words, look forward to your trip, and don't listen to those with negative comments. Naples is a beautiful area, there is much to see and do, and this is a good place to get to other European localities. It is also a place that you can let your children go outside and not have to worry about them as you do in the U.S.

You should have been assigned a Sponsor from the command you will be transferred to, he/she should have sent your our Newcomer's Guide to Naples, "Benvenuti A Napoli." My best advice is to read this guide from cover to cover. After you have completed reading it you should feel free to ask many questions. Your sponsor should be your first line of communication, if you are unable to get a satisfactory answer from him/her please feel free to email me, my email address is located at the bottom of this page.

Your Sponsor should be responsible for making reservations for you at the Temporary Lodging Hotel (TLA), meeting you at the airport when you arrive, arranging Area Orientation & Intercultural Relations (ICR), and child care (if needed) to attend the Orientation and ICR classes. You will be very busy here your first couple of weeks.

I hope you find this web page helpful. Please click the links below that I have included. Please also be kind enough to sign my guest book, leaving any suggestions for anything you would like me to add, expand on or change, comments, criticism, etc.

I hope you develop the love for Naples that I have, enjoy your tour, and please see and do as much as possible.

Cheryl
