Everybody but Lloth's Way stays above 50%. They take home a ton of awards, with at least one of every type, I wonder how much money that represents? NIMROD slides down from last time with everybody but Psi Corps and Kill-Kenny getting significantly worse. Kill- Kenny had a good run and increased significantly, while Psi Corps barely does better. The French Connection does fairly well their first few turns, especially Et Le Diable Pleura who accounted for most of their awards. ------------------------------------------------- Cumulative totals for Rounds 1-20 LLOD Demons Of Darkness 8-0-1 (100%) Valor 6-4-0 (60.0%) Eastern Horde 41-33-1 (55.4%) Emerald Myst 47-44-1 (51.6%) Lloth's Way 31-35-2 (47.0%) NIMROD Psi Corps 30-28-1 (51.7%) Kill-Kenny 35-49-3 (41.7%) Men Of The Sea 28-44-2 (38.9%) Legion Of Squee 25-52-1 (32.5%) The Wanderers 16-34-2 (32.0%) French Connection Et Le Diable Pleura 12-8-0 (60.0%) Sauvages Ubayens 8-11-0 (42.1%) Superduponts 0-8-0 (0.0%) Totals: LLOD 133-116-5 (53.4%) French Connection 20-27-0 (42.6%) NIMROD 134-207-9 (39.3%) I don't have the awards counted up for the first ten turns so I can't give you the totals for all 20. Analysis: The LLOD and their greater collective experience have dominated the rumble so far, and they look even stronger lately with the addition of the new members. NIMROD obviously has its work cut out for it, with only one team over 50% there is a lot of room for improvement. What surprised me when looking over the numbers is the consistency of it all. There is very little change in the ranking of the teams within their alliances between the first ten rounds, the second ten rounds, and all twenty so far. Most of the team's percentages don't change very much at all either. I know some of this is a bit repetitive, but hey, I just love numbers. Entil'Zha Riztab's favorite statistician. P.S. They had landed on somebody, who cursed in an unfamiliar language. Ran Wu Syng Cao cursed back vigorously in Tathanit. The man under them heaved and dumped them onto a floor, then spoke in Tathanit himself. "Curse it, watch where you're walking. It's little enough room we've got here. Why the gods don't take that cursed, tight-fisted Bey Sekahos and--" (Here his suggestions became unprintable but full of ingenuity.) "Anyone else would have sense enough not to cram five hundred men into a ship built to carry three hundred! And he expects us to fight once we land!" "We'll have to fight, will we? Where?" Saliszar asked. "What'd you mean, where? Somewhere in that cursed Alastari, I suppose." "Ah, right.... The thing is," the gladiator explained, "we were shanghaied. Magically, I guess. So we don't know what's coming off here." "A rotten deal," the unseen man agreed. "My name's Ahadzus." "Saliszar, Ecnalav, and Ran Wu Syng Cao, gladiators of Alastari." "You mean, you got shanghaied to fight against your own people? That's a rotten deal!" "We agree," Ecnalav said. "If there's some way we can get out of it, we will." "Yeah..." There was a thoughtful silence. Then Ahadzus said, "The deal with most of us is, we're drifters. We didn't much want to go to war, but it was join up or rot in jail. Well, I've seen the inside of a jail in Cirina, and once was enough." "Would you turn against the invasion, help defend Alastari?" Saliszar asked. There was another long silence. "Well, maybe one or two, here and there, but mostly...no, probably not. A leader might swing a bunch to desert, but only someone who was known and respected, see? If you're thinking, could you do it, no. Nobody knows you. Most likely they'd turn you over to Bey Sekahos, and that'd be the end for you." "Uh-huh. Does that mean you'll tell--" Ecnalav began. "Nah, I don't think so. I got nothing against you, and I don't need to curry favor, see? But be careful who you talk to." South of the coast, at the edge of the forest: "Right this minute," Fern said, "any company that isn't chasing us looks good. And those two aren't coming from behind us." Huw looked at the two horsemen doubtfully but shrugged. "We haven't got that much to lose," he admitted. They rode forward. After a few minutes of `you first, no, you first', they managed to get introduced: Fern Radcliff and Huw from Murska, Bauxite Burnisher and Lead Lambaster from Lapur, Lord Protectors all. Except, as Fern reminded them indignantly, for herself--she was a LADY Protector. "We got trapped onto a slave-farming operation up on the coast," Fern said, gesturing northward. "We're escaping and hope to get back to Murska." "We're following some Moryans who rode east, an army of them," Bauxite said. "We want to know what they're up to. But if you're headed straight home--" "We ARE," Fern said positively. "This whole expedition has gotten way too involved already." "Then your route is west till you get to the Duskblood River, cross it and head north through the Charter Cities. And watch out for the invaders." While Bauxite had been given Fern directions, Huw and the Lambaster were standing in their stirrups staring eastward. Now Huw said, "Either the army you were following has turned around, or there's another army out there headed for Alastari." "Too much dust to be anything less," the Lambaster agreed. "If it's the Moryans coming back, you don't have anything to worry about, do you?" Fern asked. "Lapur and Morya are allies, right?" "Yeah." Bauxite spat. "The kind of allies, every time we shake hands with them, right afterward we count our fingers. Twice. They don't want allies, they want subjects." "From the shape of the dust," Huw said, "they're coming on a broad front. If you keep sitting here--and we keep sitting here--it won't be too long until they see us." "Good point," the Lambaster agreed. "Let's get under cover." "They rode out in a column on the road," Bauxite said. "Why would they change now?" "That column raised a dust we could see for ten miles, easily," the Lambaster reminded him. "This dust is thin, and we just saw it. They can't be more than a mile or two away." All four gladiators rode toward the edge of the forest; in the trees there would be enough concealment to let the army pass without discovering them. "But I still want to go home," Fern said. + ][ + ---:--- + ][ The Northern Alastari Treaty Organization #22 ][ + ---:--- + ][ + On the coast south of Malcorn: "I hear they landed at Vensvar," Morgana said. She glanced over her shoulder at the inn. Kulbad was a little more than a cross-roads hamlet, about twenty miles south of Malcorn on the road to Zukal, and the Three Red Hens was considerably better than a backwoods tavern. Normally. Right now, it was stuffed as full as a miser's purse, and the three women hadn't been able to get rooms, or even a single room, unless they were willing to share with somebody else. Lynette, the Violent Fem, had been ready to share--share her sword's edge, at least. Morgana and Shalussa had talked her out of that. They had eaten an undercooked meal in the inn's common room, each at a different table to pick up as much news as they could. "Everyone's talking about--" "One thing they're talking about is how Ebansar just laid down and let Inzolas walk over them," Shalussa added. "Agreed to pay tribute, or something." "The innkeeper said the invaders are nearly here," Morgan noted. "That's why everybody's rushing around so, I guess--they want to get themselves together and get away before Inzolas is on the doorstep." "Cowards," Lynette growled. "If everybody got together to fight--" "Then everybody could get killed all at once," Shalussa said sharply. "More than fool-headed bravery is needed; we have to know when and where to fight to best advantage. Besides, we're just scouts for Murska and Riztab, and we have to stay alive to take a report back." "So let's go scout something, then." Lynette swung her pack onto her shoulders and looked at the other two expectantly. Morgana shrugged and picked up her own pack. Shalussa sighed. "I guess so." *** ***** *** ***** *** It wasn't that far from Kulbad to the coast at Vensvar, ten or twelve miles, maybe. The gladiators expected to walk it in a long afternoon. They didn't get that far. The invaders were all over the place, looting farmsteads, setting up camps, yelling through the woods in a manner sure to scare away all the game. "I thought these invaders were supposed to be Serevadans or Ferencians or something," Shalussa whispered. She was perched somewhat precariously in a tree. "These are barbarians!" Morgana was in the same tree, on the other side of the main trunk. They were about fifty yards from the edge of one of the camps, just inside the forest--the camp, of course, was NOT inside the forest. Studying the camp, Morgana agreed. These were barbarians. Flat-faced and swarthy--the civilized Easterners were swarthy, but they tended to have hatchet faces rather than flat ones. And these people wore no uniforms-- "So they're mercenaries," Lynette said. "Big deal. Mercenaries can die just as good as anybody." "I've spotted a magician," Shalussa said. She gestured with her chin toward the far side of the camp, not caring to release her hold on the branch to free her hands. "At least, I think he's a magician. Shaman type. And some probables farther away." "Easy meat," Lynette suggested. "I heard the Rirorni shamans were very dangerous," Morgana said. "These aren't Rirorni." "But they might be very dangerous." On the northeast coast of the Karnhorn Empire: Ice and Lady Jara moved slowly through the darkness, feeling their way with their feet. Unspoken but present in each of their thoughts was the possibility that the man who had answered their call was an enemy. The man didn't call out again, whoever he was, but then, neither had they. Ice stumbled over something and nearly fell, something firm but yielding, like...a body. She shuddered and lost her grip on Lady Jara's hand. She was shivering so hard she could barely keep her grip on her sword, but that was cold, not fear, wasn't it? She had the feeling that there was something very large and silent right behind her. She didn't want to be alone in the night with it. "Jara?" She stumbled again and fell across a body. Not one of theirs--this one was wearing a steel breastplate. She scrambled to her feet hastily. "Jara?" "Over here." How had her teammate gotten so far away? And Ice realized that she must have gotten turned around when she tripped, because Jara's voice was coming from off to the side. Ice had taken several steps in that direction before she realized that the voice hadn't sounded much like Lady Jara's.... She stopped. There was someone playing a deadly game, and she didn't know who, or where her allies were. Or even where safe ground ended--she shouldn't forget that there was a big cliff around here somewhere. *** ***** *** ***** *** When Ice's hand jerked out of hers, Lady Jara stopped at once and groped for her friend. There was nothing but a lot of wet brush within reach, and Jara didn't want to move too far until she located Ice. They could become permanently separated in this windy darkness. She heard Ice call out, and someone answer. Neither voice was easy to locate; both were farther away than she had expected. There was the sound of a stumble and the slapping of disturbed brush. Someone cursed, and this voice she recognized. It was her teammate, the Klansman. Someone else called to him in a low voice; and he sounded like Lord Protector Gadget. Good! Now if they could just find Ice-- Light burst upward in a red glare, illuminating the area with a restless light. Lady Jara took a quickly look around, locating four of her original companions and half a dozen strangers. But where was...? There! Ice was farther away than she had expected, nearly at the source of the flaming light, and she was fencing with a man in the armor and helm of a Karnhorn officer. The other strangers had formed a half-circle around the pair, watching. Lady Jara could see that her young friend was out-matched, besides the advantage her opponent had in being armored, and she started forward to help. The Klansman caught her arm. "Ice is dead; she just doesn't know it yet," he said. "There aren't so many of us that we can let you throw your life away, too." "I hate to say it, but he's right," Gadget affirmed. "The lady Ice is buying us time to get away. Let us not refuse her sacrifice." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===FREE BLADES REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 9 ZUKAL (turn 377): C LAETTNER of CAMERON CRAZIES (Destitute Noble, mgr.) All, First, congrats to Lyta, good luck in ADM. Shalussa, thanks for all the skills and wins. Hopefully, I will get my invite this next turn. Well, if not, I'm here to stay. My challenge is to Kimo, he is the last warrior that taught me more than one skill. Good luck to all. Araushnee Rrostarr Knight to the LLOD SPY REPORT Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the clash and bustle of the weekly RIZTAB games. There were bitter words at SKULL CRUSHERS' guildhouse after a 0-0-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 21st. Dark Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness how this week BLOODSUCKERS went 3-2-0 to move up 7 in the rankings. My praise to SWEET MAGIC for their 3-1-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving of notice! KEN caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested FENRIS and was awarded 31 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, CHOCLETINA put down SZEPASSZONY, causing her to lose 19 points of recognition in the process. Not for nothing has ARAUSHNEE RROSTARR in the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week she's proven hers combat skill yet again. Would you believe that over half of the old women in RIZTAB seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators? I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. RIZTAB, city of gladiators! Mighty among the names of thy guilds is SHADOW LORDS, a guild shunned and avoided by many in the weekly duels. Apparently the stalwarts of BLOODSUCKERS are catching the bulk of jests down at the challenging board for their large share of the avoids. Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. SOUND ASLEEP take warning! You have more than a few enemies in RIZTAB. At the gambling halls I have started to bet money on JOPPA CLUBFIST. He has got the courage it takes. Witness his challenge this turn against MOJO-JOJO! In the end JOPPA CLUBFIST was bested by MOJO-JOJO, a "sharp" reminder that higher recognition is an indication of greater skill. Still, it was a worthy bout! Give BRISEREVE credit for hers courage. Did you note how she challenged SWEET DREAMS despite the 30 point difference in their rankings? Truth to tell, BRISEREVE did not come out of the fight a winner, but she managed to capture much attention, gaining 3 in recognition. Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more than its fair share of red in recent times. Perhaps even the strong cannot escape the vagaries of this world. This week arena veteran FENRIS was slain, despite a 16-8-0 record. This week's duel proved deadly to FENRIS as he fell to the more renowned warrior, KEN. How will EMERALD MYST find revenge? Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this! The girls are as pretty in RIZTAB as ever I remembered them....and the fighters as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into a rage quickly and often. The wise are angered by the same thing only once. I think when he sees the word "Duelmasters" or "DM" he figures the next number is an arena number and sends the rest of the stuff there. I found some of the stuff in DM 4, but I'm not sure where the rest went. -- Ed. confused but doing as well as possible Raven Eye's -- I dismissed her after realizing her lack of worth in ADM. After that I paid little attention to her. -- LongShadow Raven Eyes -- She showed me a Dragon Treasure map. Said it was a legendary treasure that she planned to find. When I asked about the dragon she laughed at me...called me silly, and said that dragons were myths. Hmmm...wouldn't that make the treasure a myth as well? -- Szepasszony Jorja -- Yes, I know why people downchallenge you. However it annoys me when the weak managers abuse it. Especially when they're in a competitive arena, like Riztab. Cowardly managers protecting the pretty little records of their warriors with downchallenges they expect no retribution from. Well they don't have to agree with my opinions; they just have to be able/willing to withstand the repercussions. -- LongShadow Tokken -- I've a few hundred slaves I'd be willing to donate. Ever since the renovations have neared completion at Sceadu Holb I've been having a slave population problem. I've been controlling the problem by giving a few dozen slaves a week to the Orc Clans. However this is becoming an annoyance...all that screaming and moaning. If only the stupid Orcs would kill their food before cooking it.... (sigh) -- LongShadow Jorja -- The spotlight was all Rillion's doing. It was a good spot. -- LongShadow Rillion -- Nice record you've got there. I wonder how long before someone takes note, and decides to make an effort to blemish it? -- LongShadow Ariel -- Hate to tarnish yur perfect record, but such things happen in random matches. -- Fenrys Mojo-mojo -- I don't want to see you again! You are too fast for me. -- Frappamore Sorry, Ran Wu. I didn't want to sign your death warrant. -- Frappamore Shalussen -- I will be back...one day. -- Xissen Mojo-mojo -- Can you avoid us? Thanks. -- Ankos, Et le Diable Pleura P.S. Two turns, two fights, two losses. P.P.S. We prefer fight against frail dreamers. French Connection -- Let's fight. We can do better than 0.00%. Ubayers and Superduponts: Win and kill; it's the only way. -- Ankos Captain K. -- Morbid? Us? That is slanderous! I think we should send over some demonic golems, enslaved witches, eastern invaders, or evil drow priestesses to teach you a lesson about how bright and cheery we really are. -- Rillion Favre -- Thanks for keep me undefeated. -- Tykel Elmir Thuria -- Fight good. -- Zenar Burton -- You better, more fights help you me think. -- Venric Slip Stream -- You never stand chance. I unbeatable. -- Gazrek Khan -- I no like beat ally, sorry. -- Tesik Well gang, good start, but practice makes perfect. Remember grammar matters. -- Rillion All -- Yeah I know that you're thinking Squee and the Legion have run out on you, right?? Where you all going to get those easy wins, eh?? Don't worry, we'll be back next time around if my calculations are correct. Let's just try to go a little easier on the gang. Well, except for Tobunnga, that is. Treat him as rough as you want. See ya around. *chuckle* -- Squee All -- Looks like Y1K struck a little early and my strategies didn't show up last turn. We'll see if the warriors make it to the arena this turn. -- Captain K. Araushnee Rrostarr -- Why...what a SURPRISE to see you! You've got fourteen wins now, so go, baby, go--outta here! -- Shalussa Aelcar -- Hey, a rating! Thanks. -- Chocletina Zenar -- Gee, you don't look very demonic to me. I mean, sure, a golem is weird, but still.... -- Thuria Grapes of Rat -- Getting ready for the tourney? -- Le Fey P.S. I hate fights like that. For two and a half minutes, I'm ahead, and then, plop, I run out of oomph. Bluto -- I should hope not. I have no desire to compete in the "slimness" stakes against Olive Oyl. -- Le Fey Dreamweaver -- Thanks for the skills!! They will help. -- Zinica Rrostarr Rillion the Manager -- You're "sure that many warriors and managers would be willing to donate their services"? What have you been smoking? -- Tokken Makrok Rillion the Manager -- Thank you. Our turn didn't go as well this time, as Torric had to take a fall for Crimson Rage. That always makes him extremely cranky. Still, we went 8-1. Not bad, really, although I wouldn't have minded a little of the action for myself. -- Rillion the Arenamaster Captain K -- A shower is when you get married, and a bunch of your best "friends" get together and give your wife-to-be a lot of rolling pins. -- Torric 4 Jan 2000 The Enchiridion is 79 pages of charts and graphs which show you what every single line of a warrior overview is, what it does for your warrior, and how to be able to make a warrior and know what it will look like before you ever get it back from RSI. Along with the chart systems, there is a lot of information about DM-- theory and strategy. I made the Enchiridion to help new managers know almost everything they may desire to know about this game, and most importantly to get them on par with the experienced managers of the game. The handbook is VERY detailed, but I wrote it to be easy to follow and understand. $10 (US dollars) is what it costs me to produce and ship the handbook to you. The only profit made is if you happen to live near me, and the mail charge is less than expected. Let me ease your mind on one thing: the handbook is NOT a "how to make a style" book. It's a complete handbook on how to create any facet of a warrior overview: hit-points, coordination, handedness, intelligence, wit-statements, height, endurance, damage, encumbrance, quickness, activity, and a skill chart along with a detailed description of the Bagman skill system. There are also things which don't apply to the warrior overview such as, tactics, most up to date weapons chart, warrior style favorites, Dixie warrior designing, and other things. Make checks, or money orders payable to me. As for cash, I have received all orders of cash in the mail up to now. There's just a risk of it not getting to me; you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth the risk. If you'd like to ask me questions about my handbook, or about DM in general, feel free to contact me via phone, or mail. Ross Pimentel -- Pagan 536 Bard Road Port Hueneme, CA 93041 (805) 986-4771 5 Jan 2000 Remember, the Face-to-Face is coming soon! If you are going to attend, be sure to drop a note to Customer Service (csr@reality.com if you want to e-mail) and let us know to hold your turns if you're going to attend. Thanks!
