1. Be aware of the reality of false spirits.
2. Aggressively seek true revelation through worship and gospel study.
3. Live the commandments and serve faithfully in the Church so as
to have the Holy Ghost which provides the Gifts of the Spirit
including the gift of discernment.
4. Be cautious about the wisdom of the world.
5. Avoid spurious stories and revelations.
6. Revelation or instruction must be consistent with the teachings
of the living prophet: What do Presidents of the Church say on the
subject, particularly the living President?
7. Revelation or instruction must be consistent with the Standard
Works: What do the Standard Works say on the subject?
8. Revelation or instuction must be consistent with appropriate
lines of priesthood authority.
9. Revelation or instruction must be consistent with the other
teachings of the gospel.
10. Revelation or instruction must bear positive fruit.
11. Request messenger to shake hands.
12. What color of hair does the visitant have?
13. Does the revelation contradict former revelations?
14. Listen to wholesome music.
15. Live a life of complete sexual purity.
16. Put on the whole armor of God.
