Background
This rare California 1966 Buick Skylark Convertible
is in excellent condition. It is simply a beautiful
car. This has to be one of the best 1966 driver
convertibles around, a real California Cruiser.
I have owned this car for 32 years and it has
been garaged the entire time. It is essentially
a one owner, garage kept and a non-smoker since
it was new. I have made every effort to keep it
original/stock and color correct. It has the wonderful
peppy Wildcat 310 V8 engine and still gets good
gas mileage. It has the rare Buick center console
with floor shift, with automatic transmission.
The body and paint are in excellent condition
in original stock color - Astro-Blue. Also included
with this car are maintenance records and receipts
dating back 32 years to my purchase and an Owner’s
Manual.
Maintenance and Service
Mechanically this car is in very good condition.
The car has been maintained to original condition
in most areas. Original motor and transmission,
numbers matching. Power steering, power brakes,
and power convertible top. It runs and drives
great with good acceleration. There are no unusual
noises or vibrations when running or driving.
All of the mechanical and hydraulic systems are
working properly. The car has a new radiator and
heater system and really throws off the heat.
The entire front end was replaced a couple of
years ago. A new exhaust system is only several
years old. The fuel tank has recently been completely
cleaned and painted. The entire brake system was
replaced a couple of years ago and is in excellent
condition.
Exterior
The exterior condition is excellent with a beautiful
new paint job in the original color. All body
panels are original. All of the exterior components
are complete and working properly. Car has all
of its original sheet metal. All of the trim is
original with a few of the trim pieces showing
a little wear.
Wheels and Tires are in good condition. The stock
Buick Rally wheels are wrapped in a set of Michelin
All Season P195/75R14 tires, with moderate tread
remaining. Original steering wheel has some cracks,
but can be easily restored (see picture below).
Interior
The interior is in very good condition with
only a few areas showing moderate wear. The carpet
is new and in the original color. The interior
floor has been cleaned and painted, a new quality
pad was installed under the new carpet. Dash and
visors are in excellent condition. The front bucket
seats are in excellent condition, the back seat
is in very good condition. The back armrests show
moderate wear. All new weather stripping on all
windows. New windshield with tinting. Door panels
show some wear.
The engine compartment and trunk are clean and
complete. Spare tire, and original jack are in
good condition.
Vehicle condition
Mostly excellent condition, to very good condition.
The body, engine bay, and trunk need nothing,
the interior needs armrest base to be replated.
The top boot needs work and the glove box liner
needs repair. The car has never been restored!
This is one of 6,129 Skylark convertibles built
in 1966. This car is an excellent candidate for
bringing up from excellent driver to the next
level. It could become a very valuable automobile.
It would be very hard to find another survivor
like this one.
