ABS* Piping

1. 3’ (36”) long piece of ABS* piping of 2” in Diameter (this will serve as the potato guns barrel)

2. 1’ (12”) long piece of ABS* piping of 3” in Diameter (this will serve as the potato guns combustion chamber)

3. 3” to 2” diameter ABS* piping reducer (this will allow you to connect the combustion chamber to the barrel)

4. 6” ABS* 1 ½” diameter Piping T joint (this will serve as the handle to your potato gun)**

5. Female 3” diameter ABS* piping threaded adapter (this will serve as part of the screw on cap at the end of your combustion chamber)

6. Male 3” diameter ABS* piping threaded plug (this is the screw off part of the cap at the end of the combustion chamber, unscrew this to spray in fuel and then close again quickly)

Other Parts

1. Electric barbecue igniter (this is used to make a spark in the combustion chamber to make the fuel well, combust there for firing your ammo out of the barrel)

2. ABS* piping glue (used to glue pieces of pipe together, use only this type of glue for it is the only kind that will work on the ABS* piping)

Tools

1. Heavy grain sand paper or file (this is used to sharpen the outer end of the barrel so that the potatoes will easily cut down to size and slip easily into the barrel)

2. ¾ (must be same size as threads on your barbecue igniter) drill bit, just big enough for the barbecue igniter to fit through (this is used to drill a hole in the male 3” diameter cap so that you can insert the barbecue igniter)

3. Drill (this is used to drill a hole in the male 3” diameter cap so that you can insert the barbecue igniter)

Fuels

1. Hair spray (any hair aerosol spray will work, but I choose the cheap stuff because it has more alcohol {for a bigger boom} and is cheaper in price) I recommend white rain

2. WD-40 (another choice of fuel, but is not as safe as hairspray)

3. Any other aerosol with alcohol content or carburetor cleaner would work but I choose to stick with the hairspray because it is safe, cheap, and effective

Ammunition

1. Potatoes (most people start with potatoes, because that is what the gun is made for, but many people choose to experiment with other types of fruit or ammo, the potato is the best ammunition because of its weight, and its watery content, the potato won’t get you gun sticky and will kind of naturally lubricate it)

2. Apples (more sticky then potatoes but have almost the same effect in the gun if you run out of spuds)

3. Wet toilet paper (hey it doesn’t shoot as far as the tatters but when it’s all you got it’s all you got)

4. Pears (similar affect as the apples)

5. Large McDonalds Fries (leave fries in the box and insert in your barrel, the box acts as the shell and the fries act as bb’s, viola instant shotgun)

6. Limes or Lemons (similar affect as pears)

7. Corn on the cob (if you get a piece that fits the barrel right then you could have the perfect ammo)

8. Kiwis (similar affect as Limes)

9. Wet cloth (works well, try it!)

10. Miniature vortex football (Very aerodynamic and very accurate)

11. Mustard container (hits the ground with a big SPLAT!)

Looking for some other Ammunition head to

Building Directions

1. First use the file or sand paper, which ever you chose, and sharpen the outside of the barrel

2. Now take the unsharpened end of the barrel of the gun and glue it to the 2” diameter side of the ABS* reduction pipe with the ABS* glue

3. Next take one end of the combustion chamber and glue it to the 3” diameter of the ABS* reduction pipe with the ABS* glue

4. When your finished with step three you may now take the 3” diameter female ABS* threaded adapter and glue it to the other end of the combustion chamber making sure not to get any of the glue on the threads

5. Proceeding to step five, you can now drill your ¾ hole in the male ABS* 3” diameter threaded plug. You may also want to use glue on the igniter so no air leaks out

6. The next step is to take the grill igniter and insert it through the hole you just made in the male plug, then screw the nut on the threaded part of the grill igniter on the inside of the male plug

7. For the handle just glue the T pipe on the combustion chamber if you wish to, you may also use electrical tape to tape it down so that it will be extra secure**

8. LET THE GLUE DRY!!! Leave it dry for 24 hours to make sure it is dry and that all the fumes have evaporated

9. Make sure your igniter is sparking then the gun is complete! Lets begin with the fun

It Should Now Look Like This

Firing Instructions

1. Once the glue is dried and you have made the ramrod below that is used with this gun, you may then, and only then, proceed with the firing instructions

2. Now take a large potato that will be cut down to the barrel size with out leaving a gap between the potato and the barrel walls

3. Now take the ramrod and push the potato in 2’8”, make sure you stop at the 2’8” line so that there I about 4” between the potato and the combustion chamber

4. Open the male combustion chamber plug so you can insert the guns fuel

5. Now spray about 2 seconds of hair spray into the chamber to start out with, this is important because this step is what is used to fire you potato. If you have already shot a few potatoes then work your way up to 6 seconds of spray. To fire the gun further use more spray, and to decrease firing distance use less spray

6. Now quickly close the male plug on the combustion chamber and take aim

7. To fire the gun press the grill igniter button and watch that spud fly!

8. If that worked go back to step two and repeat procedure, if not got to step nine and read on

9. Damnit! My gun won’t fire after all this why the hell not? The answer to this question maybe that your grill igniter isn’t sparking, to test this theory take of the male combustion chamber plug move far away from the fumes and test it. If this is the case then maybe the wires aren’t coming close enough together or maybe it is time to buy a new igniter, you decide. Another reason why the gun isn’t firing could be the fuel. Some reasons why the fuel wouldn’t work are: you didn’t spray it long enough, you took to long to put on the male combustion chamber plug and all the fuel either evaporated or leaked out, or the fuel you are using just isn’t combustible, to check to see if it is test it on another working gun or look for warning labels on the can. Warning labels are good in this case. Look for these key words: combustible, flammable, and inflammable. Also look for these key phrase: Keep away from heat, keep away from flame, keep away from spark, keep away from fire, and store at room temperature. Also use only aerosol and look for the letters CFC’s.

10. Now go back to step 2 and start over. If you are still having problems

The ramrod for: The Average Hair-Spray Powered Potato Gun

Bill of Materials

ABS*

1. 3’-4’ ABS* piping at 1 ½” in diameter (the actual ramrod)

2. A 1 ½” diameter ABS* plug (plug for one of the ends of the ram rod)

3. A 1 ½” diameter ABS* T pipe (this is for the other end and acts as the handle

Other Parts

1. ABS* pipe glue (used to glue the pieces together)

Tools

1. A Sharpie Permanent Marker

2. A measuring device that is at least 2’ 8” long

Building Directions

1. Use the ABS* pipe glue and glue one end of the ram rod to the plug

2. Use the ABS* pipe glue and glue the other end of the ramrod to The part of the T pipe so that the Y-axis (which stops at the X-axis which keeps going through the Y-axis) now you have the handle on and the final product should look some-what like a pogo stick.

3. Now measure up 2’ 8” from the bottom of the plug and make a mark all the way around the ramrod at this point

4. Now the ram rod is complete

Instructions for Use

1. Push potato into the barrel as much as you can with your hands, then use the ramrod to push the potato in 2’ 8” stopping at the line you made. This leaves the potato about 4” from the combustion chamber in perfect position for firing.

Squeegee for: The Average Hair-Spray Powered Potato Gun

Bill of Materials

Squeegee

1. Go to the local dollar store and buy a big enough squeegee

Building Directions

1. If you bought a squeegee it should be assembled, if not there should be instructions on the bag or box on how to build it. Please don’t attempt to make your own squeegee its just stupid.

Cleaning Instructions

1. Use the squeegee to clean out the barrel

2. Use soap and a rag to clean out combustion chamber and the threaded female connector thingy’s threads. This is very important because if the barrel isn’t cleaned potatoes and other ammunition may start getting stuck in the barrel and if you don’t clean the treads they male ABS* combustion chamber plug will get corroded to the female connector thingy and you wont be able to insert your fuel into the gun.

HAPPY SHOOTING!

* ABS piping can be replaced with PVC piping although I do not recommend it. You would then have to use PVC pipe glue instead and PVC purple primer also. Here are some reasons why to use ABS over PVC: I heard PVC is dangerous and may explode. The reason that it explodes is that the chemicals we use to propel the potato can eat away the inside of the potato gun and make it flimsy and soft. PVC also reacts to temperatures. It softens when heated and cracks and becomes brittle when it is cold. ABS can stand the chemicals and doesn’t soften when it is heated or crack when it is cold. I also never heard of one (an ABS piped) exploding. The PVC maybe cheaper in cost, but it is also cheaper in value. What do you value more money, or your life? I choose ABS. You may use PVC if you like, although I would never use it or recommend it.

** Handles are also optional. My ramrods are optional too. Anythig that will push a potato 2' 8" down the barrel will work.

Without a handle it will look like this

If there isn't a handle on your gun it makes it more portable.

<---Oh yeah, another warning: These guns fire at a muzzle velocity of 500 feet per second, that’s 165 miles per hour. Please don’t shoot the gun at other people.
