End of the day

My cats sit serenely surveying the scene
my chair both empty and vacant
The house creaks its whispers of the days tribulations
the glow and the energy spent.

The evening blows calms of cool unseen softness
the heat has but all disappeared
My library turned tail, all cast their dis’proval
the stillness both welcome and clear.

-

Off into the night the repose of two souls
come drifting aloft on the breeze
Arm in arm promenade awash in the starlight
two hearts both totally at ease.

The garden begins to rejoice of the cool
the frogs and the crickets confer
The end of the day has long since withdrawn,
one more day closer to her.

-

How much does she realise of my hearts intent
and the seeds of the future I sow?
Of the dreams I have had and the gambles I’ve made
How much of my heart does she know?

Alone with the night to hark on my pangs
I try to envisage her form
the smile that I love and the touch that I crave
her kiss so tender and warm.

-

Does she know how this house is no more of a home
than the places she does not reside?
Of the hopes that I hold and adventures to have
with her loveliness at last by my side?

Resigned to engage the evenings alone
regarding my life with dismay
I’ll sit and I’ll wait and I’ll hope that it comes
one perfectly wonderous day.
