Welcome to Digital Diversity 2007

Our research indicates this will be the first exclusively digital show of any magnitude on the Central Coast, open to all digital artists and photographers. Interest in digital art and photography is growing rapidly. Essentially 21st Century mediums, they attract new adherents at an astounding rate. Yet the opportunities for creators of digital work to display their work have lagged far behind.

Look at the record:

  • Many venues are closed to these new art forms
  • Digital art often is lumped in with some miscellaneous category such as Mixed Media when it is accepted
  • Most open juried shows still specify “slides only” and do not accept e-mail or CD/DVD entries
  • There are very few all-digital shows in which digital art & photography do not have to compete with more traditional media
  • Judges for juried shows invariably come from ranks of traditional media, often seem to favor those media – at the expense of digital work

Being in the vanguard of contemporary art, the San Buenaventura Artists’ Union hopes to help rectify discrimination against all forms of digital art. To this end, the Artists’ Union Gallery (AUG) will offer the first major all-digital exhibit on the Central California Coast in October 2007.

We will welcome work from digital artists & photographers who are pushing the envelope of 21st Century art forms – and plan to use today’s technology to assist in displaying their art. We also invite entries from 3D artists & sculptors who produce work with a digital or computer graphics theme.
