First Major All-Digital Open Exhibition on California’s Central Coast, Digital Diversity, Now Accepting Entries Show will run Oct. 13 to Nov. 11 in Ventura, CA, USA

 

International Deadline Sept. 1, 2007 San Buenaventura Artists’ Union proudly presents, Digital Diversity, an open juried exhibit open to digital artists & photographers anywhere in the world.  There is also a special category for 3D artists & sculptors who may enter work with a digital theme.

 

Registration can be made by mail or online at www.Digital-Diversity.org and entries must be in the form of JPEG images. Prints or slides are not acceptable. There is a special category for 3D and sculpture, which must feature some form of digital graphic theme to be acceptable. Fees are $40US for four entries, $25US for two entries. Fees must be paid in U.S. dollars and are non-refundable. All digital images, except those deemed to lack artistic merit or to be in offensively poor taste, will be displayed.  Sculpture and 3D work will be juried separately. Decisions of judges are final.

 

Entries can be made in three categories: Digital Photograph, Digital Arts, 3D or Sculpture (must relate to digital theme).

 

Prizes & Awards

A minimum of $1,200 in cash awards will be made, as follows:

1.      Best in Show: $300

2.      Best Digital Photo: $250

3.      Best Digital Painting or Abstract: $250

4.      Best 3D or Sculpture: $200

5.      Additional awards made at discretion of judges

 

Note: Depending on number of entries and support by Patrons, Sponsors & Advertisers, cash awards could be increased. We also anticipate that Sponsors will donate product awards. Reports on any additional awards will be announced via e-mail, on the Digital Diversity & Artists’ Union websites and the Artists’ Union Blog

 

Display Modes

Work will be displayed in four ways:

1)      Top selections by judges will be displayed as unframed prints on gallery walls.

2)      Additional images will be displayed in portfolio bins in the gallery.

3)      Remaining images will be displayed on large (52” minimum) high-definition screens.

4)       Sculpture & 3D pieces will be displayed on pedestals to be supplied by the artist or rented from the gallery ($5 fee). Some 3D pieces may be hung, if best suited for that type of display.


Jurors
The three-judge panel includes Ken Fermoyle, veteran photographer & digital artist; John Greenwood, prize-winning multi-discipline artist
who also holds a degree in computer technologies and John Parker, acclaimed California graphics designer & artist.



 

JPEG Requirements

 

NOTE: Artists whose entries selected for hanging or portfolio bins will be notified so that can prepare larger, higher-resolution images for viewing in the exhibit.

 

 Up to three JPEG images of similar size & resolution may be submitted for 3D & sculpture pieces.


Work Accepted for Hanging or Bins

 

All work must be for sale and price(s) must be included in the entry submission. Floor pedestals are available from the gallery. Work will be labeled with the artist’s name, title, media and dimensions & price as listed on entry form.

 

Work selected for hanging in the gallery must be ready for hanging, but need not be framed. Work mounted on foamcore backing will be accepted.

 

Work chosen for portfolio bins should not be framed, but should be matted or mounted on stiff backing (foamcore or cardboard) and enclosed in clear plastic envelopes.

 

No piece may measure more than 32” overall on its longest side.

 

Artists from outside the U.S. and Canada may have special requirements for submitting their work. Such issues will be addressed in their notification information and through personal contact (e-mail or phone) by the Digital Diversity committee.

Delivery of Work
Artists whose entries are selected for hanging in the gallery will be notified no later than Sept. 6 so they can supply prints of their work before Oct. 8. Local & regional artists may deliver prints, sculpture & 3D work to the gallery on Monday or Tuesday, Oct. 8 or 9. They will be notified of exact times in acceptance information. Work submitted after Oct. 8 (except those who deliver entries in person at the gallery on Oct. 9) will not be eligible for viewing.


Return/Removal of Work
For return of prints, artists must provide return mailing label
and prepaid postage to be affixed to the container in which work is submitted. All print entries also must have artist’s name & address attached firmly to back of print. All 3D & sculpture pieces must have same information firmly attached to base of work. If these conditions are met, Digital Diversity committee will endeavor to return all such works, but cannot be held responsible for accidental loss of identification material. Work delivered in person must be picked up at the gallery on Monday November 12 or Tuesday, November 13 by the artist or an agent designated by the artist within the specified time. Work not picked up at the gallery by Nov. 13 will be stored for 10 days at a cost of $15. If not picked up by then, it may be sold or discarded.

 

 

Liability and Sales
Every possible care will be taken of all art work, but San Buenaventura Artists’ Union. The Gallery staff and Digital Diversity Committee assumes no responsibility for loss or damage. By registering to enter the exhibit, artist participants waive the right to claim for damage to or loss of artwork entered.

Commission

Ventura Artists’ Union Gallery will charge a 25% commission on all sales. No exceptions.

Submission for consideration constitutes agreement to the conditions above, including use of images for promotion purposes. Please keep a copy of this form for your records. The gallery is not responsible for lost or damaged entries or slides.
