Surviving Time

By Peaches

Christine paced the waiting room floor. She had messed up a major negotiation, and almost cost a man his life. She could hear faint sounds coming from the conference room. Mostly them arguing, she thought. After about two hours of waiting the door opened. "Miss Osborne, please come inside." Pete Williams said. He was one of her bosses, a lot nicer than most of them, she thought, having five bosses wasn't to her liking. Christine walked in and looked around, each person didn't look to happy. "Have a seat." Jim Waters said. He was one of her bosses. "You almost caused this firm to lose a lot of money, and a client. We have members calling us wanting to close their accounts with us. What were you thinking?" Jim said plainly. Christine stared at him, what was she thinking, she wanted to speak her mind completely but knew if she hadn't lost her job yet, she definitely would. "Sir, I was doing what I thought best, what I've been trained for. You all knew when I went on this assignment that it was my first time out." She said pausing to see their reactions. "I don't know what I could have done different." She said looking at Pete. She could see by his face expression that her career as a KR negotiator, was over. After about an hour of trying to explain what happened, they told her that they couldn't take the chance of this happening again, and fired her.

Christine boarded her plane, back to the States. "Have a nice flight." The flight attendant said smiling at her. Christine gave a weak smile and continued to her seat. She sat in coach, and unfortunately for her, she sat by a man who loved to talk. On this flight she wished she had ear plugs. Christine finally told the man politely that she was tired and needed some rest, the man nodded and turned his attention to someone else. Christine closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. A loud sudden noise woke her. She opened her eyes quickly and looked around. "Shit!" She swore softly as she saw a man holding a gun out and waving it around. "Not now." She whispered. Another man came out from first class. "All right, this plane is heading for a different destination, I suggest you keep quiet and stay in your seats!" He yelled out. Passengers looked around at each other, children started to cry, along with the women. Three guys who sat across from her, had the look of taking them on. "Don't even think it! No heroes!" The man said glaring at them. Christine took a breathe, she had to do something, but didn't know what, after what happened today, she had lost a lot of her confidence.

After about an hour of traveling, one of the three brave little soldiers stood up. "Sit DOWN!" The man yelled at him. "I need to use the bathroom!" The little soldier said glaring back at him. "NO!" The man said pushing him back in his seat. The little soldier was about to stand back up, but the other two held him back. Another man came out from the front, he was holding a list, she knew it was a list of the passengers. "Ok, when I call your name, stand up and tell me what you do!" The man yelled out. He started calling off names, each person stood up and spoke. She noticed that there were a couple of wealthy passengers back here, she thought that was strange. They got to her name and she stood up and paused. "Well what do you do?" He called out. She starred at him, then spoke, "Nothing, I'm unemployed at the moment." He glared at her. "Well if your unemployed how can you afford to travel! What did you do before?" He asked, she knew his patience was wearing thin. She sighed, she really did not want to tell them, but she knew that if she didn't he would start hurting the passengers for her delay. "I was a KR Negotiator." She said starring at him. "What's a KR Negotiator?" He snapped stepping towards her. "Kidnap and Ransom. I negotiated the return of kidnapped people." She said her eyes never leaving his.

The man looked at her, then back at his man. "You come with me!" He said waving his gun towards her. She moved from her seat and walked towards him. "Keep reading off the names." He ordered his man. He pushed her towards the front of the plane. When they entered the cockpit, she saw that the captain and co pilot were dead. "I want you to get on that radio and tell your people if they do not let Gomez Perez out of your prison, I will start shooting passengers." He said waving the gun at her. She walked over to the radio and picked it up. "It won't be that easy." She said starring at him. "Just do it!" He commanded. Christine called out to the nearest tower. After reaching someone, she said who she was and what the situation was. She told them that the captain and co-pilot were dead. She needed to speak to her security firm, she told them that she no longer worked for them, but they would be able to handle this better than she. She told them to tell the firm that a Mr. Derek Lawrence was on the plane. She waited as the radio went silent. "What's going on, why aren't they answering you?" He asked this time poking the gun in her side. "They're reaching someone." She said glaring at him.

Finally when someone came back on, they said that someone would be contacting her, through her cell phone. Christine shook her head, she did have her phone but it was back at her seat. When she informed the man, he sighed heavily with anger, then sent one of his men to retrieve it. When she got her phone, she turned it on and waited for it to ring. About 20 minutes later it rang. "Yes." She simply said. "Christine, this is Walter, how's it going?" He asked. Christine rubbed her forehead. "Right now the situation is a code 3, two are dead, so far." She said shaking her head. "All right, what are they requesting?" He asked hearing the frustration in her voice. "They want a man named Gomez Perez released from one of our prisons." She said glancing at the man. "And who is this Perez guy?" Walter asked not knowing who this man was. "I don't know, someone to them." She simply replied. "All right, do you know their nationality?" Walter asked as he began taking notes. "I think they are Colombian." She said the man nodding to her. "Yeah they're Colombian." She added. "All right, do they know what prison this Perez is in?" Walter asked. He could hear mumbling in the background. "L.A. Maximum Prison." She said. "All right, you stay calm, when I get the facts about this Perez guy, I'll call you back. You be careful." Walter said as he hung up the phone.

"He's looking into it. You'll have to give them something, something of good faith." Christine said looking at him. "Good faith, I don't need to give anything!" He shouted at her. "If you don't, it will make things more difficult. They will determine that you will not release us after you get your man, so they will most likely just blow us out of the sky." Christine said her voice finding more volume. The man turned around and looked at his man, then spoke, "All right, you want something for good faith, I'll release... you." He said grinning at her. "Me?" She asked in disbelief. "Yes, you do know how to fly?" He asked with a wicked laugh. Christine backed away from him. "If you do that, you will not get him." She said glaring at him, trying hard not to show fear. Just then her phone rang. "Yes?" She said as she quickly answered it. "Its me, the guy they want is being held for execution tonight. He's responsible for a lot of people dying. They will not release him, under any circumstances." Walter said his voice had a touch of sadness. "You're joking right?" She asked in disbelief. "They said his life was worth, a flight full of people, cause once he got out, he'd kill more than what's in that plane." Walter said this time anger was in his voice. "You have to tell them too." She said a touch of panic in her voice. "I'll try again, you keep them from killing anyone." He said and hung up the phone. This is great, she thought, shaking her head.

"Well what did he say?" The man asked glaring at her. "He's still trying to reach the people in charge of your man." She said not blinking an eye. "I don't believe you!" He said the butt of his gun hitting her in the face. Christine fell to the floor, the last thing she remembered was feeling the pain in her head, then passing out. When she awoke, it was hard to focus her eyes. She looked around confused. "Where..."She began to speak but her throat hurt. "Shhhh, lay still." A woman said. Christine finally focused her eyes. She wasn't in the plane anymore. "How, where?" She asked still dazed. "You're in the hospital, in Los Angeles." The woman said. "But how the hell did I get here?" She asked trying to sit up. "Its a long story, you've been out for some time." She smiled down at her. "How long?" She asked blinking her eyes. "For about two years now." She said smiling at her. "Two YEARS! But how, the plane." She said shaking her head. She felt like she was in a bad dream. "Well I don't know too much about that, but I know that the plane crashed in a jungle in South America. Your family had you flown here, when you were strong enough." She smiled again. "What about the other passengers?" She asked tears began to flow. "Some made it, some didn't. I guess someone was trying to land the plane, but something went wrong." She said staring down at her.

Christine laid her head back down. This had to be a nightmare, she thought. Her head was doing spins. How could this of happen, she asked herself. She didn't think he hit her that hard. The nurse told her that when the plane crashed her wounds became more severe. She shook her head as the doctor began to explain things to her. She was told that Terry Thorne began to negotiate the return of the passengers, but the man had other plans. The nurse told her that Terry Thorne was waiting in the waiting room, she was told to call him when she awoke. Christine shook her head, she didn't want any visitors, she didn't want to see him. "Tell him to go away." She spoke tears falling from her eyes.

Terry waited outside her room, waiting patiently for the nurse to come out. Walter had been calling him all day to see how Christine was. Terry hoped that she didn't suffer to much from her traumatic experience. The nurse finally came out and smiled at him. "She's insisting on no visitors, but I think it would do her good, so you just go on in." She said winking at him. "Well I don't want to make her upset, I'll come back tomorrow." Terry said as he turned to walk away. "Now you listen to me, you go in there and you talk to her." She said grabbing his arm and pushing him towards the door. "I'd rather..." Was all he could say before she opened the door and gave him a push through the doorway. Terry shook his head and giggled.

Christine heard the commotion and turned towards the door. "I told her I didn't want to see anyone." Christine sighed. "I told her that I would come back tomorrow, but she insisted I come in." Terry said with a giggle. "I see that, what do you want?" She asked bluntly. Terry raised an eyebrow, "Well Walter has been going crazy since this all started." He said looking down at her. "Then why didn't he come, you still didn't answer my question, why are you here?" She asked coldly. Terry ran his hands through his hair. He didn't remember her being this way, like an ice queen. "Listen, luv, you have a lot of people worried about you, now I took over the negotiations for Walter." He began but was quickly interrupted by her. "I see, you're here for what, a follow up? To see what went wrong? To say I screwed up, again. Mr. Thorne, please get the hell out of my room!" She said glaring at him hard. "Miss Osborne, would you please let me finish." Terry said glaring back at her. "Get out now, Mr. Thorne. And don't come back, I'll fill out a stupid report, then you can read it!" She said rolling to her side. Terry shook his head then headed for the door, he glanced back at her before walking out.

Christine stayed in the hospital for a few more months, she had a lot of rehabilitation to do before going back to her life. When she finally went home, she decided to drive, she didn't live that far from LA, she lived in Oregon. And she thought the drive would do her good. The firm had sent Walter and another guy down to talk to her, she told them everything that happened. She made her report and basically threw it at them. She was tired of dealing with people like them, always wanting paper work, always caring about the ol' mighty dollar. When she pulled into her driveway she sighed. "Good to be home." She whispered. When she opened the door, her cat came running up to her. "Hey boy, how ya doin?" She said picking him up and petting him. "Well looks like you got plenty to eat." She giggled. The cat just purred and rubbed against her.

Christine spent the first couple of days, cleaning and relaxing. She decided to head up to her cabin, at least no one would be able to contact her, she didn't have to be annoyed with anymore questions from the firm. She packed a couple of bags and headed out. The first night at the cabin felt good, but she couldn't get this eerie feeling she had to go away. Something was coming, but she didn't know what. She started having nightmares about the plane trip, she saw the man's face over and over again in her mind. And the fact that he and his men escaped didn't help matters. Terry told her that, before the plane had crashed, they all bailed out. She figured that the man must have planned on dumping the plane, if he had parachutes. She shuttered at the thought. Terry hadn't tried to call her once since the hospital, she did feel a little bad for treating him the way she did, but she was fed up with the firm and he worked for them.

One morning she was woken up by a loud knock on her door. She jumped out of bed almost falling to the floor. Who the hell could that be?. She grabbed a gun she kept in her nightstand, she wasn't going to get any kind of surprise. She went to the door. "Who is it?" She asked, her pulse was racing at this point. "It's Terry Thorne, luv, open up." He said. "What the hell do you want? How the hell did you find me?" She asked as she swung the door open. Terry just stood there and grinned at her. "Now what?" She asked glaring at him. "You shouldn't greet a man like that, he might think you want him, luv." Terry smiled. She raised her eyebrow, "What the hell are you talking about?" She said staring at him. Terry pointed to her, she looked down. "Oh shit!" She swore as she took off for the bedroom. "I don't mind!" He hollered at her. She was wearing only a tank top and her panties.

After she came back, wearing a pair of sweat pants and a flannel, she stared at him. "So what do you want?" She asked. "We have a problem, well more like you do, luv." He said as he walked around the cabin. "What are you talking about?" She sighed. "Seems like you've made an enemy." He said glancing at her. "Who?" She said frowning. "Remember the man from the plane?" He said looking at her. Her face went pale. "How do you know this?" She asked as she sat down in a chair. "A source in Colombia told me, and this guy is very mad at you." He said walking up to her. "But he doesn't know where I am, so what's the problem?" She said staring at him. "Not yet, these guys are very resourceful, if they want something they'll get it, and from my sources, they already know your in Oregon." Terry said his face showing concern now.

Christine just stared at him, she didn't know what to say, her brain was on overload. "No worries, luv, we'll just take you some place safe." Terry said walking up to her and placing his hand on her shoulder. Christine jerked away and glared at him. "This is the only place I want to be!" She snapped as she walked away from him. "It isn't safe." Terry said watching her. "Well unless they know this area, it is for me." She said glaring back at him. "If you stay here, it will be easier for them to take you out. They have more cover than you." Terry said he was starting to get angry. "Thorne, this isn't your problem, so just leave." She said her eyes full of fire. "This is my problem, and I'm not leaving." Terry said stepping closer to her. "And how is this your problem? Oh wait, let me guess, you want to use me to catch that son of a bitch, and your guilty conscious will go away." She said glaring at him.

Terry glared back at her, his eyes full of fire. "Listen, I'm doing my job! I can't help it you're so up tight because you couldn't handle your job!" He snapped back. Christine stepped closer to him. "Get out!" She yelled pointing towards the door. "Fine, you're on your own, luv!" Terry said as he headed out the door. Christine slammed the door. "I can't believe him!" She said shaking her head. Christine glanced out the window, she saw his truck taking off quickly. "I did my job." She whispered as tears filled into her eyes. She walked over to the couch and sat down. She had no idea what to do if that man came looking for her, she felt safe her, but she didn't know how long that would last. She decided to leave, but head more into the mountains, a moving target was harder to get then a sitting duck.

Terry drove fast down the dirt road. "She has a lot of nerve!" He swore. He suddenly stopped, the truck skidded. "Damn!" He swore again and turned the truck around. He couldn't leave her up there alone. Terry drove back to the cabin, just in time to see her leaving. "Hey where are you going?" Terry said as he jumped out of the truck. Christine glanced his way and groaned. What now, she thought. "I'm heading up the mountain, didn't I tell you to leave?" She asked glaring at him. "I'm not leaving you alone, I don't care how much you hate me." Terry said grabbing her arm. She jerked it away. "Don't do that!" She snapped glaring at him. "I'll get my stuff, you're not going alone, and I won't hear any arguments!" Terry said turning to his truck. Christine shook her head. He had a lot of nerve, she thought. She waited for him, truth be known she didn't want to do this on her own. And knowing he had military background, gave her some relief, but she wasn't going to show him that.

Terry soon joined her. "All right, let's go." He said gesturing to her to lead the way. "You're going to follow me, are you sure you want to do that?" She asked grinning at him. "Well you're not going to lead me off a cliff are you, luv?" He asked grinning back at her. "I'm thinking about it, luv." She said mocking him. Terry shook his head, this wasn't going to be easy. They walked for a few hours then stopped for lunch. "What is that?" She asked turning her nose up at him. "Lunch, want some?" He asked grinning at her. "What the hell is it, it looks like a dead rat!" She said shaking her head. "Close, its a squirrel." He giggled. "No thanks, I'll pass." She said frowning. After lunch, they decided to keep moving for a few more hours. She hadn't done this much hiking in a long time and her legs were telling her that. But she didn't want to stop, she wanted to keep going.

That night at their camp, Christine didn't talk. Terry tried to get her into a conversation, but she just ignored him. He finally stopped trying and thought about a plan. It wouldn't be easy to keep her safe, he didn't know the territory. He tried to ask her about the area but she just laid down and closed her eyes. Terry shook his head, he was tried of this game and he would let her know it, in the morning. The next morning, Terry woke up to find her gone. "Shit." He swore as he jumped up. "Christine!" He called out. Looking around he saw that her stuff was gone. "If they don't kill her, I will!" He said grabbing his stuff and heading out. It took him a couple of hours to catch up to her. When he did he found her swimming in a small river. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" He yelled out. She turned around and grinned. "What's the matter, scare ya?" She giggled. "This isn't a game, Chris, you can't be doing this!" He yelled dropping his things.

Christine got out of the water. "Listen, I didn't ask you to come along, I didn't ask you for your help, so quit acting like my baby sitter." She said grabbing a shirt from her bag. "I don't care what you want, I'm here to keep you alive, and I can't do that if you're running off like this!" He said grabbing her arm. "Back off!" She said pulling her arm away from him. "What is your problem? Does having someone help you, take away from your independence!" Terry snapped. Christine stepped up to him, they were only a few inches apart. "Independence? That's a laugh! This has nothing to do with that! You represent the firm, and right now I hate everything the firm is and represents!" She snapped, quickly regretting those words. "I see, luv, your mad because they let you go. Well I don't blame them!" Terry said he too regretting his harsh words. "You don't know anything about my situation with them! So stay out of it!" She said turning away from him. "You're wrong, I know what happened." He said pausing.

"You were in charge of the Breck case, but." He began to say but was quickly interrupted. "But what, I screwed it up! I almost got him killed instead of saving his life!" She said turning back to him. "You could have gone a different way." Terry said trying to calm down. "A different way, let me guess, I should have done it the Terry Thorne way, cause Terry Thorne never screws up a job!" She said with a hiss. "I didn't say that." He said shaking his head. "If you don't like me so much, then why don't you just leave! I'll be fine on my own, Mr. Thorne!" She snapped reaching down and grabbing her bag. "I didn't say that, you just make it hard for someone to talk to you!" He said reaching out for her arm. This time she turned around and decked him square in the face. "I told you, Thorne, don't do that!" She said hissing at him. "Lady, you have a serious problem!" Terry said glaring at her. "Yeah and that problem is you!" She said walking off.

Terry sighed heavily and followed her. When he caught up to her, he walked in front of her and stopped. She sighed heavily and glared at him. "I don't understand, this isn't like you." Terry said his eyes holding a touch of sadness. "How would you know!" She said trying to walk past him. "Chris, I know you. Something else is going on with you." He said reaching out for her again, but she pulled away. "You don't know me, anymore, Thorne. The person you think you know, died in that plane crash." She said this time walking past him. "That's not true." Terry said this time grabbing her arm and holding it tightly. "Yes it is!" She said this time tears were in her eyes. "What happened?" He asked his voice soft and tender. "You really want to know what's bothering me, fine, I'll tell you. First off, I made the mistake of being Terry Thorne's student. I made the mistake of working for the same firm as him. I made the mistake of thinking I could handle a job on my own." She said as tears began to fall. "You're right, you made a mistake in the job, but it happens. And I wouldn't ask for a better student then you." He said touching her cheek. Christine stepped back.

"You don't get it, they all compared me to you! And because I didn't do the job like you, they judged me on that." She said turning away. "That's not true, luv, and you know it." He said stepping closer to her. "Terry, its true, whether you want to believe that or not." She said as she began walking again. Terry shook his head. The next couple of hours there was nothing but silence between them. Christine had been a family friend since she was born, her father taught Terry, and since her father died before she was old enough to learn, Terry taught her. He didn't realize then, how much it would hurt her now, or how much he would get blamed.

That night at the camp, Terry watched her. She would barely look at him, she wouldn't say a word. Terry tried again to talk to her, but she never answered. The next morning, Terry received a call on his radio. Walter told him that the man, Hector, had found the cabin and was now looking for them. Christine starred at him, why hadn't he told her about the radio. "All right, Walt, we'll keep moving." Terry said then said good bye. "So they're coming." She said plainly. Terry was worried about her. One minute she would have fire in her eyes, then another minute she would have sadness. "Don't worry, Walter will have some men up here before they reach us." Terry said smiling a weak smile. "Better get moving." She said grabbing her bag and walking. Terry shook his head, he didn't understand this, he didn't understand what she was going through, he'd never seen her like this.

Christine thought about her father. He and Terry were negotiating the return of a major client. He and Terry went in to make the deal, but things went wrong, and her father didn't come out. Terry told her about what happened, but never really explained everything to her. She trusted Terry, but he was hiding something about her father's death. She remembered that some people from the firm, thought her father was dirty. That he was selling out client lists and claiming some of the ransom. She never believed any of the rumors and Terry never answered her when she had questions about it, all he would say was, no, he wasn't dirty.

"Why don't we take a break." Terry said setting down his bag. "No, we should keep moving, its almost dark out, we need to keep moving while there's day light left." She said as she kept walking. "You need to rest, you're not use to this." He said calling after her. She just ignored him. Just then Terry came up from behind her and tackled her. "What are you doing?" She asked, he placed his hand over her mouth. "Shhh." Terry said as he pointed to a nearby ridge. Christine's heart started racing. "How did they get here so fast?" She asked in a low whisper. "I don't know, luv, but we have to get by them." Terry said as he grabbed his bag and her hand and slowly started walking, more like crawling, away.

Terry and Christine ran as quickly as they could trying not to be seen by the guys. "Shit!" Terry swore quietly. "What, not afraid of heights are you?" Christine giggled as they looked down in front of them to a steep drop off. "No, but we can't get down from here." He said glancing at her. "Sure we can." Christine said as she sat down on the edge. "What are you doing?" He asked reaching down to her. "What most people don't know is this isn't as steep as you might think, and there's water down there." She said glancing up at him. Terry shook his head. "Listen, we have no choice, look!" She said pointing behind him. Terry turned around. "Son of a.." He mumbled then sat next to her. "I really hope you know what your talking about!" He said looking at her. Christine started down, using her arms and legs to guide her, looking like a spider as she went down.

"Your fucking joking!" Terry said as they came to a stop. "No, now jump!" She said grabbing his arm. "Not as steep! You didn't mention the 100 ft drop to the water!" He said staring down at the water. "Don't worry you won't feel a thing!" She said then jumped. Terry's eyes got big. "She's out of her fucking mind!" He swore, then jumped. Terry hit the water hard. Christine was heading for shore when she looked behind her and didn't see him. "Oh no!" She said turning around and calling out his name, but there was no sign of him. She swam towards the spot he landed in. She dove under the water, but couldn't see anything. She dove again and again till finally she spotted him. She brought him to the top, noticing that he wasn't breathing. She swam him to shore and started mouth to mouth, after a minute or two he started breathing and spitting out water. "Wouldn't hurt, huh." Terry said choking. "Well I thought you were tougher than that." She said with a weak smile, now feeling guilty for almost killing him. She wasn't having luck with men lately, she thought shaking her head.

"We'd better get going." Terry said slowly standing up. Christine stared at him. "You should rest for a minute." She said frowning. "No, we have to keep moving." He said as he began walking. "Terry, I'm sorry." She said looking down at the ground. "No time for that, let's go." Terry said quickly glancing at her then turning around. They walked for a few hours and found a small cave. "We'll camp here tonight." He said as he peeked in the cave. "Well you lost your bag, and I don't have much left in mine, most came out when it hit the water." She said following him in the cave. "Well we can't do anything about that now." He said plainly. Something was bothering him now, and she didn't know what.

After about an hour of sitting in silence she turned to him. "Terry, what's wrong?" She asked starring at him. "Nothing, you better get some sleep." He said as he stared at the small fire he built. Christine sighed, "You shouldn't have come." She said as she laid down. Terry glanced over at her, her back was towards him. "It's my job." He said bluntly. Christine rolled over, "Your job? Well its nice to know we're still friends." She said glaring at him. "I didn't mean it that way." He said staring at her. "Yes you did, we haven't spoken for a few years now, hell you don't even speak to your son, so why should I be different." She said rolling back on her side. "Don't bring him into this, he has nothing to do with us." He said his voice had anger in it. "Well let's see, at one point, I was considered your family, then it went to friend, then it went to student, so what's next, an acquaintance." She said her back still towards him. "Why do you do this, you always blow things way out of proportion." Terry said standing up. "And what's with you lately, you've been so fucking moody!" He added. "I thought you said I needed rest, so leave me alone so I can get some." She said angrily. "If that's the way you want it." Terry said as he sat back down. Christine didn't fall asleep at least not right a way. Her thoughts drifted back to her father, and the fact that Terry was hiding something about what happened to him.

The next morning they set out early. "Where are we going exactly?" He asked as they walked. "There's an old ranch about 20 more miles ahead, no one uses it anymore." She said without looking at him. "I hate to disappoint you, but I don't think you'll be making it that far." A man's voice said from behind them. They both turned around. "Oh shit." She swore. "Well it looks like you might take that flight after all, Miss Osborne." Hector said with a laugh. Some of his men surrounded them. "And what do you think you'll accomplish by this?" She asked trying not to show her fear. "Nothing really, but I like you, just not enough to keep you alive." Hector laughed. "You son of a bitch!" Terry said stepping towards him. "I wouldn't!" Hector said glaring at him. Terry stopped in his tracks. "Let's go, I have the perfect place for your flight." Hector added smiling at her.

After about two hours of walking, they came to and edge. "What do you think? Beautiful view, isn't it." Hector said grinning at her. They were standing on the side of a mountain, the drop was at least a mile or two down. "Well Miss Osborne, if you're a praying woman, I would suggest you start praying, and hope God gives you wings." Hector laughed. Christine looked at Terry. "No worries, luv." Terry said taking her hand. "Oh I'm not worried." She said frowning.

Hector's men came up to them, and grabbed Terry. "Well I hope you said your good-byes." Hector laughed then gave the signal to his men. They forced Terry to the edge of the cliff. "Terry!" Christine cried out as they pushed him over. Christine screamed.

Christine opened her eyes to find herself still in the cockpit of the plane. She looked around trying to focus her eyes. When she looked up she saw the man staring down at her. "Get up!" He said as he kicked her in the side. Christine groaned then slowly stood up. It was all a dream, she thought, shaking her head. She was breathing heavily and sweating. "I want you to get them on the phone and tell them to release Gomez Perez now or this plane goes down!" He said glaring at her. Still trying to figure out if this was real or just another dream, she dialed Walter's number. "Hello?" Walter asked. "Hey its me." She said shaking her head. "Its still a no go, they won't do it." He said sadly. "You have to convince them, or he's going to crash the plane." She said staring at the man.

"I've tried everything, but they just won't do it, I'm sorry." Walter said. Christine bit her bottom lip. "Get Terry." She said glancing up at the man. "Terry Thorne?" Walter asked. "Yeah." She said quickly. "I think he's on another assignment for the firm." Walter said still confused, not knowing why she wanted Terry. "Listen, you get him, he's the only one who can handle this. And give me the number to those assholes who are in charge of Gomez Perez." She said angrily. She ended the call, and dialed up the feds in charge on Gomez. "Who are you calling now?" The man asked glaring at her. "The people who have your guy." She said plainly. "Agent Thomas, speaking." A man said. "Thomas, this is Christine Osborne." She said with a firm voice. "Miss Osborne, as in the high jacking." He said. "That's right, now I don't want no bullshit about this, we need to make a deal, any kind, so we can get these people home safely, do you understand, or would you like me to speak another language until you do." She said coldly. "I've already told Walter, I can't let Gomez go." He said. "Well you better figure out a way too, cause if you don't, you'll have more than just my ghost to deal with." She said harshly.

"I'm sorry, we can't." He said as if he were about to hang the phone up. "Fine, but the next call you get, you won't like." She said shaking her head. "What's that suppose to mean?" He asked. "You'll see." She said grinning to herself. True she may not work for the firm anymore, but that didn't mean she still didn't have her connections. She hung up the phone and dialed. "Now who are you calling? I am getting tired of waiting." The man snapped. "Listen, if you want your man out, then stop bugging me! I'm working on it!" She snapped knowing that either way this went she'd be dead. She had to stall, find a way to over turn their situation. The man just glared at her. "Hello?" A woman's voice said. "Hi, Gloria, this is Chris." She said starring at the man. "Chris, how are you?" Gloria asked. Christine just shook her head. "Listen there's no time to chat, is Shawn there?" She asked. "Yes he is, hold on." Gloria said. "Chris how the hell are ya?" Shawn said cheerfully. "Shawn, no time to chat, listen I need your help." She said tiredly. "What can I do?" He asked. "Well I've got a plane full of hostages, and a very angry terrorist who wants his boss back." She said glancing at the man.

"Who's his boss?" Shawn asked. "You're not going to like this, but Gomez Perez." She said plainly. "Chris, I don't know if there's anything I can do." He said sadly. "Listen, you have too, at least talk to them." She pleaded. "All right, I'll see what I can do." Shawn said and hung the phone up. Christine knew if anyone could pull high strings it would be Shawn, after all he was the FBI Director. Christine looked over at the man. "Its being worked on." She said calmly. The man just sighed angrily. About 20 minutes later her phone rang. "Hello." She said dryly. "Its Terry, luv, Walter told me, what can I do?" Terry said softly. "I need you to help Walter and Shawn convince those asses at the FBI to let Gomez Perez go." She said quickly. "You do know who he is, luv?" Terry asked. "Yes, its getting restless up here, I don't think they plan on letting any go, even..." She stopped not wanting to say it. "Listen, luv, I'll do what I can." Terry said. "I know." She said quietly. "Just keep cool, and luv, think positive." Terry said before hanging up the phone. Christine sighed. Stay cool, that wasn't the problem, staying positive was.

Things only got worse, the man got impatient. There was a lot of whispering between him and his men. Christine couldn't understand it all, but she knew it wasn't good. The man ordered her back with the other passengers and made all the passengers get to the far back of the plane. "What are they going to do?" A woman asked as she held onto her son. "I don't know." Christine whispered. A few minutes later all hell broke lose. The men opened the main door and began parachuting out of the plane, when they all finally jump, you could feel the plane taking a nose dive. Passengers began to fall and scream. The air was being sucked out by the main door. Air mask began falling. "We have to get this plane back in the air!" One of the three brave little soldiers said. Christine looked at him. She nodded and followed, holding on to the seats of the plane, the force of the air being sucked out was fierce. She could barely hang on. When they got to the cockpit the three guys took the seats. "All right, let's see if we can get her back!" One said as he pulled on the steering. The plane fought him, it took two of them to pull it back and level it off. "Call a tower!" One said looking back at her. Christine was so lost in thoughts she didn't hear him. "Hey!" The second one said touching her. She blinked and starred at him. "Call a tower!" He said starring at her. "Why don't you just use the radio?" She said staring at him. "Can't they broke it!" He said shaking his head. Christine took her phone out and dialed Walter. "Walter! I need a number for the nearest tower! The terrorist jumped out, and we're flying solo!" She said trying to stay as calm as she could. "OK, just hang in there!" Walter said. Christine frowned, "Yeah I'll try." And hung up the phone.

Walter called back, and gave her the number, but before she could dial it, her phone rang. "Shit!" She swore shaking her head. "What!" She said angrily. "Hey luv, its Terry." He said. "I know, its you, I can't talk!" She said sighing. "What's wrong?" He asked with panic in his voice. "They jumped and left us here to man the plane! I gotta go, gotta call the tower!" She said as she hung the phone and dialed the tower. She talked to a guy then handed the phone to one of the guys. The guy just nodded and said yes and searched for things. Christine felt like she was going to pass out.

The plane seemed to have a mind of its own. Barely letting the guys take control. "All right, there's the airport!" One said glancing back at her. "Better take a seat!" He added. Christine headed back to the coach section. "Are we almost there?" A young woman asked starring at her, tears running down her face. "Yes, they have the airport in sight." She said smiling a weak smile and sitting down. Just then one of the flight attendants came up to her. "There's something you should see." She said looking down at her. Christine got up out of her seat and followed her. "What is it?" Christine asked looking at her. "I don't know." She said as they came to the middle part of the plane. "Look." The attendant said pointing to the wall of the plane. "Oh fuck!" Christine said as the color drained from her face.

"Find me a phone!" Christine said glancing at her. The attendant quickly walked off, a minute later came back with a cell phone. Christine dialed, "Terry, we have another problem, and this is something you didn't teach me." She said shaking her head. "What is it, luv?" Terry asked. "It looks like a bomb, attached to the side of the plane." She said glancing back at the attendant. "All right, what does it look like?" He asked. "I don't know, like a bomb!" She said as she began to panic. Terry told her to calm down and describe it to him. She told him what it looked like. Terry then told her to cut a wire, Christine went pale again. "I don't think I can." She whispered. "You have to, if this plane lands with that on it, it will make the bomb go off." Terry said firmly. Christine took a breath and cut the wire. She closed her eyes as if waiting for an explosion, but nothing happened. She took a deep breath, "Ok I think its turned off." She said her voice shaking. Terry told her to do something else before going back to her seat. He told her to detach some of the parts, just to make sure it didn't go off when they did land.

Christine held on to her seat as the plane began to land. She closed her eyes tightly and prayed. There was a lot of bumping around, spinning and finally they stopped. She slowly opened her eyes, hoping this was another dream, but she wasn't that lucky. She got up and walked over to the door. The guys met her there. After all the passengers got off the plane safely she and the guys got off. Christine's feet hit the ground and she fell to her knees. Tears began to fall and she brought her hands up to her face. "Chris, luv." A man's voice said from behind as he bent down and wrapped his arms around her. "Terry." She said and buried her head in his chest. "No worries, luv, its all over." He said gently stroking her hair. "Not until we get those bastards!" She said glancing up at him.

"Chris!" Walter said as he ran up to her. "Walter, what are doing here?" She asked starring at him. "You didn't think I'd stay there did you!" He said smiling at her and giving her a big hug. "So any plans on getting these guys?" She asked looking at Terry. "Now listen luv..." He began but was quickly cut off. "Terry, I want them!" She said glaring at him. "I know you do, but let's get you checked out before we venture into this, you've got a pretty nasty bump on your head." Terry said smiling softly at her. "Fine, but after that, I want those assholes!" She said grinning at him.

A couple of weeks later Terry found the location of the men. He argued with Christine about not going, but in the end she went. "All right, listen up, this isn't going to be easy, so be careful." Terry said as he and his men huddled together. "Yes sir." The group responded. "And you, stay here!" Terry said looking at Christine. "I don't think so, I want him!" She said glaring at him. "You have no training in this, I won't see you get killed!" He said raising his voice. "Excuse me, I may not know how to deactivate a bomb, but that doesn't mean I can't kick ass, you of all people should know this!" She said raising her voice. Terry shook his head, he knew he wouldn't win this.

Everything seemed to go by fast. Gun fire, explosions and bodies going everywhere. After it was all over, Christine stood in front of the man. He just grinned at her. Terry was nowhere to be seen. "So now that you've found me, what are you going to do?" He asked smiling. "I'm going to kick the shit out of you! Then maybe teach you how to fly!" She said glaring at him. "Big words for someone like you!" He laughed. "Where was this little attitude in the plane?" He added. "I guess it just took the knock to the head to bring it out! I guess you can say that was a big mistake on your part!" She said grinning. He came towards her, bringing out a knife. Christine ducked out of the way as he brought it forward, trying to cut her. He then tried again, Christine grabbed the arm he was holding the knife in and bent it backwards. Bringing him around she planted her knee in his stomach, causing him to hunch over.

Christine then threw him to the ground and started kicking him. "Hey luv, I think that's enough!" Terry said as he ran up to her. "He deserves more!" She said kicking him one last time. "Enough, he's out cold." Terry said turning her towards him. "I want him dead!" She snapped breathing heavily. "Chris." Terry said softly. Christine looked down at the man, then back at Terry. "Fine." She said then walked off, but not before she kicked the guy one last time.

It took Christine a couple of months before she actually calmed down. The man and his men were put in prison. Christine decided to go on a well needed vacation, up to her cabin. After about a week of being there Terry showed up. "Hi ya, luv." Terry said walking up to her. She was standing on her boat ramp. "Hi." She said smiling at him. "So how are you feeling?" Terry asked giving her a hug. "Good." She smiled. "Well I talked to the firm, and they want you back." Terry said smiling at her. "I don't think I can go back, it's not what I want anymore." She said walking away from him. "I don't understand, luv, I thought you've always wanted to be a negotiator." He said following her. They went into her cabin and sat on the couch.

"I thought so too, but I guess I just did it because of Dad." She said looking at him.

"So what do you want to do?" Terry asked starring at her. "I don't know, yet. When I got knocked out on the plane, I had this nightmare, it scared me." She said frowning. "What was it?" Terry asked softly, touching her cheek. "About the man and his guys, we were here and you were hiding the truth about Dad's death and then they killed you." She said frowning. Terry sighed. "I guess you want me to tell you that I told you everything." Terry said standing up. "I know you're hiding something, I wish you would tell me." She said looking up at him. "I can't, it would hurt you too much." He said glancing down at her. "Terry." She said pleading with him. Terry sighed heavily. "Your father wasn't killed by the bad guys, one of his own men took him out, he was on the take, helping the bad guys get the good guys then taking part of the ransom." Terry said quickly. Christine just sat there, her eyes wide. "You're joking right?" She asked almost stuttering. "No, you wanted to know the truth well there you have it." He said looking down at her. "Thank you." She said simply and stood up. "I have to go for a walk." She added.

It took Christine a long time to get over what Terry had said about her father, she didn't want to believe it, but something's told her he was telling the truth. After several months, she finally went back to the firm. She really didn't want to but Terry convinced her too, he said until she figured out what she really wanted to do, this would be good. Christine agreed, and said "Well if I get the boot again, it's going up your ass!" Terry just laughed, "Understood!"
