We run about 80 registered Columbia ewes that we select for adaptability, milk, mothering ability, size, and fleece. We record sixty day weights on all our lambs and micron sample our wool every year. We also codon test for scrapie resistance to that we can incorporate that resistance into our flock.
Our ewes lamb in January and February in corrals where they remain until we wean the lambs. The run out on native pasture the remainder of the year. Our lambs remain in on feed to grow them out to their full potential, and to avoid coyote problems. We also have a small group of natural born fall lambs each year.
Our current ram battery includes an outstanding RR Hanna Sheep Company ram we purchased at this year's Nationals in partnership with BAM Columbias of Buffalo, WY. We also used a thick, solid RR Lawson ram, and our reliable standby A&K6012RR..
Our flock started as a 4-H project many years ago. Our first national competition was in 1986. We've competed successfully since that time and continue to show & sell productive seedstock to purebred breeders, range flocks, and 4-H and FFA members.
