Your Harp Song
(Dedicated To Michael Riversong)

Somewhere I have never been, happiness over
any experience, your eyes touch my silence,
in your most fragile movement you enclose me
with a touch that is so near my soul.

Your song, easily uncloses me
even though I close myself in quiet hiding.
You open me skillfully, always knowing
playing your harp with mastery in my soul.

As if you know me you open very beautifully,
suddenly, some deep awareness
of my fragile spirit that is compelled
in your hands as they move across the strings
playing your harp song.

I do not understand what it is in you
that opens my soul to you, only something
in myself that understands that your soul
is deeper than one I've ever known,
nobody, not even my own spirit, has such knowledge.

I Am The Flag (April, 1996)

I have crossed oceans in the hearts of men
I have seen nations grow and change
Another star is added for independence
I stand for freedom for all those who honor me

I have stood proud in war
Although death was all around
I wear the color of red
Courage is in me for all who died

In the land of freedom I wear white
Purity for all those who believe in me
I have been where treaties were made
And been carried through the land

I wear blue from sea to shining sea
I flow through rivers and lakes
I give life to valleys and meadows
I am the background for stars of white

I am one state, I am many states
I stand for new territory and land
I fly high in honor of all in this place
I am called colors for this country

I have draped the coffins of soldiers
I have been folded and placed in the hands of widows
I have flown half mast for those who died
I am the American Flag.
