Rapture Reflections: A Review of the "Rapture" Doctrine
The popular picture is that YEHOVAH God's people are taken away from the earth leaving everyone else to suffer tribulation. However, the Messiah says that it is the "wicked" that are taken away! The presumption that being with the Lord means being away from the earth comes from the presumption of what "heaven" means in this passage. As the Third Heaven is on earth, we can be sure that it means being with the Lord on earth. The rapture doctrine would tell people not to worry about YEHOVAH's judgments upon earth, because they insist that Christians will be taken away from earth -- away from YEHOVAH's wrath. But, the prophets and apostles do not agree with this!

In order to remove the Catholic Church from consideration as the Antichrist power, and with the sole design of shifting the odium away from the pope, Ribera proposed that the first few chapters of the Book of Revelation applied to ancient pagan Rome, and the rest he limited to a yet future period of 3 1/2 literal years -- immediately prior to the future appearance of the Messiah. During that time, the Roman Catholic Church would have fallen away from the pope into apostasy. Then, he proposed, the Antichrist would be a single individual.
