Dell OptiPlex GXa upgrade pageThis is a picture of a Celeron PPGA

The Dell Optiplex GXa is based on the Intel 440lx chipset. It has the max of doing a Pentium II 333MHz. But with certain upgrades you can go faster. Now to upgrade choices, you have the Intel Celeron 533 PPGA. This is the only upgrade that has been tested and works fine. The reason why a Celeron 533 works good is the voltage. The older Pentium II and Celeron both use the voltage of 2.0. If you want to try a faster upgrade like a Celeron 766 or higher you will need the PowerLeap PL-iP3 this adapter will reduce the core voltage to low as 1.65 this will make the faster processor work correctly. But if you want to do a Celeron 533 PPGA all you need is a slocket adapter from Aaron from Yahoo and a Celeron 533MHz PPGA and you will need a processor heat sink with fan only if your processor does not come with one. A good heat sink cooler is the Golden Orb you can get one off of eBay or Thermaltake. When you get everything to do the upgrade you want to start by upgrading your BIOS to the latest which is here Version A09 Support(Dell)  Just simply download the update and  follow instructions on screen. When your done make your boost disk you need to reboot the system with disk in to start the update process.
 
 

After you install the latest BIOS update you need to power down system or reboot it.  Just remember not to power down system when doing the BIOS update when its done it should ask you to reboot.

After the system reboots power down your system.
 
 

Now for the upgrade!!! Open your Iwill Slocket II  or Super Slocket III adapter and then set the jumper how they should be you should select Intel as the processor, then PPGA as CPU type, then FSB leave to auto or 66 then select voltage 2.0. After you set the jumpers you want to raise the bar on the socket 370, then you want to place the Celeron 533 PPGA into socket, it should just fall in the slocket with out any type of force. If it doesn't, just rotate it on one side then see if it will drop into place. When it does just press gently on the center of the processor then close the latch down. Then attach your heat sink and you can plug the heat sink fan into the slocket if it has a power connector or to the one on the motherboard which is located near the serial port 2. If you don't see one you will be required to order an adapter from here POWER ADAPTER After you located the power connector you can remove your old pentium II and put in the slocket card and connect the power to the fan make sure the card is firmly installed after that put the case on and power up. When your system power up it may say its a Pentium Pro 400 or 500. When you get into windows you can run hoda's CPU info it should say you have a Celeron 532 or 533 its always off by 2 to 3 on all PC in the world. Download H-oda'a WCPUID software

If every thing is ok and working fine you can replace your old Pentium II sticker on the case with a New Celeron Sticker. You can get one off of eBay real cheap. Now your system runs fast. www.ebay.com

Update:

It has been confirmed that the Celeron 700 and 733 have been tested to work. To do this follow same steps above and use Power leaps PL-iP3 and BIOS version A09. Or Power leaps offer a kit that has all of the stuff you need to do the update even the processor.

UPDATE2:
You can use a Celeron II all the way to 766MHz with Iwill slocket II except just set the voltage to 1.8 and upgrade the BIOS to A09. When it boot it will say its a Celeron or Pentium Pro 400MHz but it will run at the speed you bought!

Celerons in range of 566-766 will not boot up Windows XP or Windows 2000. The reason is that the FCPGA and SIMD have problems with BIOS's with no Pentium III SIMD support. To make Windows 2000 or XP boot you need a Celeron 533 PPGA processor.
