Basic Electronics - School's in Session

The CB World Informer - This site has not been update in 3 years...But it is still one of the best out there. It was a really good idea for a website, I am sorry it did not continue. A website like this is what CB is lacking...

The Defpom-Modifications, Radio Alignments and more

Antenna stuff

11 Meter CB Antennas - Information dealing with cubical quads and other general antenna information-mainly CB related.

Reflections - Opens into a PDF file. This is about SWR and what should really concern you about it. It is a must read for any antenna guy. It is located on the firecommunications website.

About antenna tuner operation -This is a good explanation about how antenna tuners work, when they should be used, and how.

A good article related to "loading" (resonators, coils,) shortened antennas

The Cebik.com WebpageA good source for antenna projects and theory.

Petlowany 3 banderAn interesting plan and discussion about a shortened (12 foot) tri-bander for 40-20-15.

Various antenna projects mainly for ham-but can be applied for CB

Plans for a bent Attic Yagi-haven't tried it yet

Dipole calculators, coax calculators and more-More information on there too. Not really all that exciting.

Mic wiring

Microphone Wiring - Wiring for a lot of different cb transceivers

Mic wiring for cb and ham radios-very good site, more stuff on it

Radio Modification

Cherokee 1000 Mods (same as Eagle Tomahawk, Commanche Warrior) and other info (clarifier mod)

The Defpom - A collection of mods and radio information. Takes you directly to the mods page.

Mods.dk - modifications for many ham radios...A great site.

CB Tricks-Takes you directly to the radio modifications.

General Radio Articles, humor and opinion

Top Signs of a Bad CB Shop

Article: Removing 155.3 mile limit on CB

The Keydown - The Ultimate Abuse of CB Radio - just something to get your blood pressure up. I remember talking with the writer - Doug Smith - On the Popular Wireless BBS. He is a nice guy. I remember he was on a crusade against illegal CB radio ops...I guess it turned out too much for him because his section here remains fairly incomplete.

Ham Radio Stuff

G4FON.com-A very good, free morse code trainer made by G4FON. The best I have ever seen. uses the koch method.

More Radio Related Discussion Boards

CBTricks Forums - Very good CB message board site

World Wide Radio Forum-Also a DX club. Club prefix is CDX. Also a very good CB site.

1 Stop Electronics CB forum, AKA cbradioforum.com- This used to be a really nice board, I honestly cannot state an opinion on it now since I had been away from it for about a year. It seems to have a lot of members.

The Quack Shack - CB Radio Forum - I actually just joined this board so I do not have an opinion.

CB Retards Message Board-Don't let the name fool you there are some pretty smart radio guys there. Many keydown guys. Nice forums, intelligent people, but all registrations are approved pretty strictly.

Popular Wireless BBS -Radio discussion of all types: ham, cb, FRS, MURS, etc.

Radio Repair and Modification Sites

Wild Willy's!!-The shop for REAL MEN.

Peg Leg's- Beware, I have an interesting response from him in an email, I will share it if I still have it.

8541 Electronics-Very nice knowledgeable guys.

Nomad Radio-Nice guy, seems like he knows his stuff and has a lot of local business. Never sent anything to him but I don't think I'd hesitate. Helped me with a President Washington I am working on.

DTB Radio-Seem to know what they are doing, but do not accept Base work shipped in, only walk ins. Amazing to me. They must have a lot of business. They turn it away!

Fire CommunicationsI like Jack. Many people don't. I think he knows what he's talking about. He's got his quirks though. I emailed him a couple times about a radio and never got a response. Now, maybe the emails never got there, Jack was too busy, or maybe I offended him somehow. I don't know. I think he's a smart guy though. To sum it up, if Jack would take it I wouldn't worry about sending it to him.

WA4GEG's Electronic Equipment Servicing-Repair's many Kenwoods, and Yaesus. He is great on the 70's vintage of Kenwood and Yaesu, like the 101, 520, 830, etc. Works on modern models as well. I can vouch for his work on a 520, he did an excellent job.

Export Radio Repair-Can't vouch for them either. I emailed them once about a radio, zero response. RAdio repair business must be booming.

Rogerbird-Works only on HR 2510, HR 2600, President Lincoln. Mainly does chipswitch installs. He does not own a shop and does it in his spare time. He is very good.

Doc's Electronics-Works on many radios, I think but is known for the HR 2510, HR 2600, President Lincoln work. Never dealt with him.

Radio Manufacturer Home Pages

Kenwood CommunicationsThe Kenwood communications division site-ham radio, business, etc. They have many manuals and downloadable software for radios (like radio control programs).

Yaesu homepagehaven't been there much because I don't own a yaesu, but they have manuals and other info.

Icom America - Downloads, manuals, and product information

Galaxy Radios - Nice website, lots of pictures of radios and radio "upgrades." Good Customer Service people

RF Limited homepage - Nice radios and decent products. Sam answers his emails sometimes. ;)

RM Italy - KL and KLV line of linear amplifiers

Ranger Communications - Great product descriptions and some modifications too.

President ElectronicsHome of the good old President Lincoln! But...holy crap, the whole site is in french! If there's an English button I can't find it.

Uniden CB products Nice site, they have downloadable owner's manuals.

Midland Radios-I have no use for one, but maybe you do!

Astatic Microphones Homepage - Good place to check up on some of those desk mics they don't sell anymore!! They are very responsive to emails however, and pretty helpful people. - Update- when last checked they took off the CB mic info - - I don't think it's long before they remove it entirely :(

Antenna Manufacturers

Wilson Antennas-Every CBer has a Wilson laying around somewhere.

Firestik AntennasThe best 'cheap' antenna you can buy, imo. some good info on the site too.

Maco AntennasGood antennas for CB and 10 meter. Other stuff too.

Signal Engineering- Home of many different cubical quads and innovative mobile antennas. I have heard stories about the base antennas that the instructions are sloppy and some of the materials are not the greatest, but I do not know. I bought a Goldrod 45 Spydor A+ from them, it is designed well. But ugly!

MFJ EnterprisesMFJ aka Mighty Fine Junk, home in Starkville, MO! They get a bad rap, many of their products are of good quality but a few bad ones do slip by. Antennas, tuners, and many other things including manuals.

Cubex antennas-CB quads, 2 meter, 6 meter antennas and more.

Max-Gain- antenna parts, accessories

The Wireman-Very good stuff, antenna fabrication things, including wire, baluns, kits, ect. The flex weave is great stuff, easy to handle.

Mosely ElectronicsWide range of amateur and CB antennas, really a lot of stuff.

Jo Gunn Antennas-Obscenly overpriced directional antennas. Honestly, I can almost understand buying a pair of jeans for the label, or a watch, sunglasses, maybe even a radio, but an ANTENNA? IT'S IN THE GOD DAMN AIR! I don't get it. Maybe 3 million priests blessed these antennas.

M2-Log periodics, monobanders, etc. Used to build custom antennas, not sure if they still do.

A1 Antennas-Produced by Jay in the Mojave, a very nice guy. Home of the overpriced 10K Interceptor. It intercepts your money. All kidding aside, I still am very skeptical of these, but I cannot find a person that owns one that talks bad about it, so maybe that says something. Or maybe people that bought them don't know any better! I see they are trying to find new ways to make it more expensive. He is also building beams.

Stargunn Antennas-Their motto is "The sport of Log periodics...not theory" and that holds true. Evidently, Troy has changed the laws of physics with his magic antenna materials. Beware.

Predator 10K Antennas-Ok, I never owned one, and there is something to be gained by using huge coils and thick radiators, but the 'double coil' antennas defy logic and that makes me wonder about the guy. At least he doesn't make DB claims, I don't think.

Monkey Made antennas Never owned one of these either, but you hear a lot of drivers with them. I'm unconvinced on these as well, unless all you want is a shiny antenna with a big coil.

Personal CB/Ham/Radio Websites and Link pages

Night Rangers Radio Communications Webpage- This was not emailed to me but I like the site, it is very original. Vintage CB radio recordings and other things. The gentleman is based in Rockhill, SC.

Live Cb radioTalk on a CB radio Live in Lincoln, Nebraska! These guys didn't email me either, but it's just too cool. also I wouldn't mind a return link if they get referrers! There was also recently a big stink about it on QRZ.com - if you can still talk on it- I don't know. Check it out.

Robs CB Radio-Yet another site that never contacted me but I added anyway! UK based operator. Good section on CB history that includes info about the USA and the UK that I did not know.

RetroCom.com-I can't believe I just found this site, tons of stuff on it. Vintage CB radio recordings, pics, information, old CB advertisements and more. Great site. They didn't ask me to add the link either!

DMOZ Citizens Band page-They link to me so I link to them, see how that works?

Circus Mobile-Ran by Bozo, he also runs the Top 100 CB radio sites page (link below):
