Bridgett (NOT) Stone

I have called this page the Bridgett NOT Stone page to call everyone's attention to the fact that the Rev. Francis'  first wife's surname was NOT Stone.  She is commonly called Bridgett Stone in many books, but this  is totally incorrect, although the way it came about is understandable.

Governor William Stone, of the state of Maryland, once referred to Reverend Doughty in writing  as his "brother-in-law", and someone, upon reading this said to themselves; "If Francis is William's brother in law then Francis was married to William Stone's sister...ergo; her name was Bridgett Stone.  I, too, fell into this trap, but decided to do some research on the Stone family, in an attempt to "take" Bridgett's line back further.  The family was a proninent one, and much to my surprise I discovered a great deal of material on Wm. Stone, his parents, birthplace, siblings, and found absolutely NO sister Bridgett.  Then, later, I discovered that William Stone was married to the sister of Rev. Doughty's second wife, Anne Graves.  THIS, then, was how the 2 men were brothers-in-law; they were married to sisters!   So, Bridgett's maiden name remains a mystery, but we KNOW it wasn't Stone!

Bridgett died sometime after the family's arrival in the colonies, but when is unknown.
