COLUMBUS FANCY CANARY
America's type canary is the product of breeders in several areas of the country working to produce a free singing canary with a more symmetrical, better proportioned, more attractive appearance.
The smaller, slimmer Norwich of the mid 1920's was used with the true German Crested Hartz Roller as the base. Probably other breeds have been added over the years to create the lively beauty we know today.
A group around Columbus Ohio promoted the bird, assigning the first accepted standard in1933. They dubbed their creation the Columbus Fancy for their hometown which is named in honor of Christopher Columbus.

Fifty years later, 1983, the International Columbus Fancy Association was formed to promote and protect the bird.
The I.C.F.A. holds its yearly meeting at The National Cage Bird Show. It offers CFA leg bands to its members and makes rosetts available as awards for shows.

A newsletter keeps breeders in touch, answers questions, and helps members obtain needed breeding stock.
