Making Your Log Home Beautiful
Topic: Washing

Power Washing
For most new construction this is an ideal method of exterior cleaning and surface preparation. Many companies like to use a bleach solution. While this may work it is not good for your home and what ever stain you may chhose to use will not last as long. Do not ever let someone put bleach on your home.
Powerwashing an older log home is also a good idea so long as the logs are tight. It is not unusual for water to penetrate the walls of a log home during washing. Powerwashing creates a very artificial 200-mile per hour rain storm which will not likely be repeated by any natural event
In a log home that is likely to leak we always keep a man inside to contain the water. Since this is a little intrusive and the possibility of water damage exists no matter how careful we are, many of our customers are opting for a waterless cleaning method called Corn Blasting.

Also a good Sashco product
Log Jam Chinking
No matter what it encounters—wind, rain, sleet, sun or snow, Log Jam chinking effectively holds its seal. Log Jam chinking keeps your home comfortable while keeping the weather where it belongs—outside. Log Jam chinking is the elastic sealant that handles joint movement up to 100%—even in joints up to 4" wide—while maintaining its original appearance. With superior adhesion and elasticity, Log Jam chinking is guaranteed not to crack, tear or peel away from logs. Plus, it's the only chinking to hold a UL one-hour fire rating: when applied in accordance with Fire Resistance Directory Design No. UL519.
Log Jam chinking's six textured colors seal your home with the traditional look of mortar and are available in two convenient sizes (5 gallon pails and 30 oz. cartridges).

Topic: Staining
When it's time to stain your home I suggest using a Sashco product.

Transformation™ Stain
Restore What Nature Destroyed

When it’s time to restore an eroded, failing stain, or if you need to maintain a coating that has lost its luster, remember one word, transformation. Better yet, remember two words: Transformation™ Stain. Transformation™ Stain will transform the appearance of your exterior logs and exterior vertical woodwork from dull and lifeless to rich and brilliant—especially for older logs needing restoration. The stain that’s easy to remember because its name describes what you want and what it provides, Transformation!
