ACTUAL EXAMPLE 2 ~ WATER PIPE

Topic :

Prevention from corrosion between galvanised steel pipe and copper pipe works by painting

Location of use :

Connecting joint between two different kinds of pipes at a pump room

Explanation :

Refer to the Table B, the location of the zinc coating on the galvanised steel and copper are nearly at two ends. Since the distance between two metals is larger, the reaction is more serious, making a barrier between these two metals is needed to prevent the corrosion of zinc coating of the steel pipe. By means of painted steel bracket, a separation between two metals is provided to let the zinc coating on galvanised steel fixing bolts as well as the circular surface of the galvanised steel pipe not in contact with copper.

Topic :

Prevention from corrosion in metal water pipe by replacement

Location of use :

The whole water pipe

Explanation :

In order to prevent any corrosion in water pipe, there are two main prevention :

  1. Using water pipe made of another material which does not have any corrosion, for example,   PVC pipe.

  2. By simply painting on surface of water pipe made of metallic material, it can make a barrier to any electrolyte, such as moist air or water to prevent from corrosion.

Topic :

Prevention from corrosion in metal water pipe by electroplating and galvanisation

Location of use :

Connection between gas heater water pipe inlet to water supply outlet on wall

Explanation :

  1. The bolt of heater inlet is electroplated with chromium, so the copper base of the bolt is separated almost perfectly from moist air to prevent from corrosion.
  2. The hexagonal nut on wall is galvanised with zinc. It can make a barrier to moist air to prevent from corrosion.
  3. When without any protection, such as electroplating, painting or galvanising, just like the fixing bolt in the middle is corroded very seriously.
