Jeff Gordon-Upclose and Personal

Upclose and Personal

Wife: Brooke Hieght:5'7 Weight:150lb
Hometown: Pittsboro, IN Birthdate: August 4, 1971
Hobbies: Video Games, Water Skiing, Snow Skiing, Raquetball
Favorite Shows: Friends, Seinfeld Childhood Hero: Rick Mears, Indy car driver
Nickname: Wonder Boy (I don't think Jeff really cares for it.)

Racing History:
Jeff has been racing since before he was in school. He raced BMX bike when he was 4 1/2 in Vallejo, California. Much to his mother's relief he soon graduated to quater-midgets. In 1979 and 1981, he won the quarter-midget national championship.
He moved on the go-carts when he was eight and beat 17 yr. olds. Jeff's step-dad, John Bickford, who always wanted to race professionally but couldn't afford it, taught him how to race and supported him in his early racing years. In fact, Mr. Bickford was so confident in Jeff's racing talents that he moved the family to Indiana when Jeff was 13(picture) so he could legally race 650-horsepower sprint cars.
When Jeff was 18, he moved to open-wheel Indy-type cars.(picture)
Later, Jeff took Buck Baker's driving school in Rockingham, North Carolina where a Busch Grand National team owner asked Jeff to driver ten laps in his car. He drove it faster than the owner did and he signed him up to drive in the Busch divsion. In 1991, Jeff was the top rookie.
In 1992, Jeff was notice by Winton Cup team owner, Rick Hendrick, after winning a Busch race and Mr. Hendrick sign him up for the Winston Cup divsion.
In 1993, Jeff won Rookie of the year. In 1994, he won his first Winstron Cup race. A year later he became, the 1995 Nascar Winston Cup National Champion, the youngest driver to win it in the modern era. Last year, he came within 37pt. from winning again, but had won the most laps and poles, led the most miles and laps, and won more money than any other driver! This season, he has lead the points for most of the year and is one race away for winning his second Championship.

The 1997 Season:
Jeff started out the season with a bang by winning the Daytona 500(picture). Jeff has won 10 races this season and has 22 top fives and 23 top tens. Interestingly, the other 8 races have been under 17th. Four of the other 8 races are under 30th. Jeff set a record as the winningest driver when he won the Winston Million and sent his season winnings above four million dollars!
