The beginning of the Dark Alliance of Thieves was started by a thief known as Kage on the Atlantic shard. The Alliance's power rose and fell, and was eventually diminished to just two members; Kage and White Crow. The era of old had passed and new one was about to began with the immersion of a new leader and the loss of an old one. Kage, growing old and becoming fed up with the constant changes that continually erupted on Britannia handed the torch to his successor, White Crow, the last remaining. A variable of paths lied ahead for White Crow, success or failure depended on the friends and allies he surrounded himself with. He vowed to bring back the honor and strength of a time long passed...
There were many thieves guilds throughout the land, but Kage was determined to make this one different, unique, something that would stand above the rest. Kage wouldn't allow the thieves who cared less how other people viewed them and even less about their counter parts, into his guild. Only the true thieves, the elite. Once Kage had set up this system he set out to find "trustworthy" (excuse the term) thieves to join the guild. Like minds that would champion his cause and solidify the brotherhood.
If this guild was nothing more than unskilled thieves fighting amongst each other for nothing but loot, it would not work. There were only five members at first but it soon grew to a fledgling ten. It may not have been the most powerful guild, but it's members were closely knitted force, everyone knew the other in some aspect unlike the larger, colder guilds. So Kage had his guild, an Alliance of scoundrels, thieves, brigands, and the occasional con artist. The infamous Dark Alliance was beginning to get its foot hold in the dream that founded it's creation.
Members have come and gone now, time has worn down the ranks of the Alliance. All that are left are White Crow and a few friends that have become constant pillars to the Alliance. The time is ripe for a second age and a new breed to step up and take the place of the old.
The purpose of the Alliance has always been respect. So many people consider a thief to be someone less than the average player. Thieves are treated like a subclass, scavenging beneath the simple world of adventuring. Its denizens are avoided like the plague and as a result respect is the furthest thing from anyone's mind. Most fail to realize as a thief you become a representation of all thieves. What else gives a better representation of your self than your name or your outward appearance? A death robe, if that, and an ill conceived name, that displays a complete lack of thought, earns no one's respect. What else do you have, stripped of everything, but respect. Respect for a professional criminal, an urban predator skirting the lines of society, instinctually weighing every moment for a window of opportunity.
With the theory(a very weak one) of "honor among thieves" the Dark Alliance hopes to earn the respect thieves deserve for their countless hours of training and devotion.
"Limit what you dare and limit what you are."
*Any thief can choose to join the Dark Alliance as long as they agree with the above criteria
