RE: Richard Austin & Dottie Doss family histories from
(more recently) Mason County, West Virginia.
My maternal grandmother was Hannah Ethel
ADKINS. Her associated ancestoral names are CHAPMAN, DUNCAN,
as well as Adkins.
Thanks to Shanan A., a cousin from what I can piece together, we have a
photo of
Joseph George Chapman with his wife and children, as well as John Milton Chapman
(our ancestorial reference)! (NOTE: There is a fault on the labeling of the photo - instead of Molly
Adkins, that is Lillie Ann Chapman - refer to Nancy Clay's comments below.) Shanan emailed
me (mariahswind@yahoo.com) in May 2000 and told me that this picture and some others she obtained
from her grandfather who had visited in eastern Ohio and western West Virginia to see family and
brought these back with him.
Shanan lives in Australia (does she know the King family connection?) I found Shanan A. through WorldConnect.
Furthermore,
Joseph George Chapman has a Walker family connection and we have some photos also of his wife
and her sisters?
As of 12/21/2000, I have a message with more detail about that Chapman family photo from Nancy Clay:
" ...the one beside Retha is my grandmother
Lillie Ann Chapman,
Joseph's half sister.. and I have two more pictures that have her named on them....
My Aunt Maxine sent me this picture as she has an original and she said her mom, Lillie,
went with her dad John Milton to the train station in Buffalo, Putnam County, WV, to see
Joseph and his family off the day they went to Iowa. The picture was taken just before they left...
I have across the top of mine..Arch, Oxley, Ruth., Retha and Lillie!
Mine are on paper so they won't copy....Grandma Lillie had black hair which she wore up in all her pictures."
New information available as of spring 2002 from Shannon's aunt, Nicolle in regards to the
Chapman connection to Iowa, and John Milton C.'s and his Southern Cross.
Photo album sheets:
Chapman girl photos sent to me
by Nancy and Shanan.
Willis F. Chapman set
(Willis F. Chapman, family, & John Milton Chapman).
B. Greenberry and son John Milton Chapman photo set.
I have started an obituary page too. I
hope to capture several obits which can help people round out their files.
My maternal grandfather was
James W. DOSS.
I have learned that I can not access the Doss Family Association web site however, you can contact
Libbie Griffith for DOSS information through the Doss Family Association. Contact: Libbie Griffin, editor, PO Box 271, Greenbush
MA 02040. (617) 545-3840. E-mail: yyex00a@prodigy.com
Associated ancestoral names are YOUNG,
WRAY
(and see associated
KING family information), DUNN, and WILSON.
I have seperated Adkins and the associated families (maternal)
from Doss and associated families (paternal).
Return to see how much easier it will be to locate people
and trace the relationships.
This is my paternal grandfather's line (Lyle L. Austin). I found some information using the USGENWEB resource about the STERRETT family of Mason County. I can't prove it yet - but my father says that his is his grandfather...
