I live on the Cowen sub-division of the Cumberland coal division of CSX. about 5-6 coal trains a day make there way along the Tyart River, and the Buckhannon River and there tributaries to haul ,on avarage, a 50-80 car coal train. Usually, there is are 2 SD70MAC's at the front end with F.R.E.D. bringing up the rear. There is a total of 121.8 miles between Grafton,WV and Cowen,WV with many branches to different mines. About 3 of them are abandoned but still have trackage intact. one of such is 31 miles in length that goes from Century juction to a coal mine, that has been out of operation since 1993. I live in Buckhannon,WV; it grew up on the railroad and the lumber industry in the late 1890's and grew into a typical West virginia Mining town that never quite stopped growing. Unlike towns like the real Coalwood,WV that grew , thrived, and died.
