Hurrican Ivan

September 15th, 2004 is a date that we'll not forget anytime soon. I've been thru blizzards, dust storms and tornadoes in Kansas, earthquakes in California, floods and deep snows in West Virginia and now a hurricane in Alabama. We are located in Wilmer Alabama, just northwest of Mobile. Ivan came ashore as a category 4 hurricane with winds over 130mph. At the last second ivan turned east and the eye of the storm just missed us by a matter of miles. The damage though to the the Mobile and Pensacola beach areas was very heavy. You can see on the map the path of ivan and where it came ashore.

After the Storm

We came out several times during the storm to watch out of curiosity. We found grey skies, wind and rain. Not as severe as we expected but we were lucky and being located on the west side of the eye.

After the storm...

We came outside to see lots of debris scattered around. No serious damage to anything, just leaves and tree limbs scattered everywhere. Here's Kris looking at the yard he knows he going to have to help clean..... I parked the car in the garage and put the pickup and van close to the house to help protect them.

One of our neighbors houses, all boarded up and ready for the storm. Many of our neighbors stayed home for the hurricane. A lot of the lower Mobile area did evacuate to northern Alabama and Mississippi.

You can see all of the leaves and debris on our local street.

Trees down on main power lines..........

Trees hit some houses also...

Here's a local market stand...

another tree down....

One tree did get uprooted and hit our house but there was very minimal damage as a result.
