Power Trip
radio show with host Mike Superstar Morris on AM 1130 KFAN
{personal note thanks Chris Hawkeye}
{another personal note thanks to all
the KFAN on air staff for making this section happen}
Brock Lesnar appeared on this
mornings Power Trip radio show with host Mike Superstar Morris on AM
1130 KFAN in the Twin Cities. When asked if he would perform the
shooting star press move that caused him to suffer a concussion, Lesnar
said, Of course not and laughed.
Later in the interview, Lesnar indicated that he hasn't completely
ruled out performing the move again. Its moments like WrestleMania that
make me put my neck and pretty face on the line... added Lesnar. The
odds are against it, but you never know. I'm a balsy SOB.
Morris told Lesnar that a fan who sat second row at WrestleMania was
on the phone and wanted to talk about the finish. Lesnar joked, Id love
to hear about it, as if to say that he didn't remember much about the
match. When a female caller advised Lesnar to eliminate the move he
responded, You want to see me around more, don't you? Yeah, we need to
cut that one out.
Lesnar was very respectful when the subject of being a two-time WWE
Champion came up. Just hearing you talk about it, Lesnar told Morris, Im
humbled. He went on to thank his wrestling coaches at the University of
Minnesota, the local media, and everyone else who helped him make a name
for himself to the point that WWE had interest in him.
A caller told a story about waiting with a group of people to meet
Kurt Angle. He said when Angle showed up, he was bruised and clearly
battered (I assume this was after WrestleMania). The caller said that
despite Angles condition, he went out of his way to visit with the fan
and sign autographs for roughly 30 minutes. Lesnar said that didnt
surprise him a bit. That's just the type of guy Kurt is and that's why I
have so much respect for him, said Lesnar.
Lesnar also praised his fellow U of M alumnus Shelton Benjamin for
the job hes done early in his WWE career. When a caller asked if
Goldberg is physically bigger than him, Lesnar replied, Nobody is bigger
than I am. Lesnar also said he really doesnt hang out with any wrestlers
when hes at home now that Curt Hennig passed away. He said he has
numerous friends in wrestling, but none that live in the area.
Its worth noting that if any of Lesnars comments seem over the top or
arrogant, he was simply playing into the mood of the show. He came off
very well, as he always does during his regular KFAN appearances. The
segment was not advertised yesterday, so as usual, I missed the first
part of the interview. He's learning about kids. Lesnar's girlfriend,
Nicole, gave birth to their first child, Mya Lynn Lesnar, five months
ago. "The greatest," he said.

BIOGRAPHY
"i broke the ring i win" he said friday on a phone interview
Brock Lesnar dominated Big Ten collegiate
wrestling like no other athlete had from late 1998 to mid 2000.
Dominating opponents left and right, he earned a reputation for
disposing oppenents as quickly as they came, earning nicknames such as
"Terminator" or "RoboCop", or insert your favorite indestructible force,
'cause it's been used.
Lesnar grew up on a farm near Webster, South
Dakota. He took up wrestling and went from a 3rd place finish at the
South Dakota prep championships to a 33-0 record in his senior year of
high school. Choosing minute Bismarck Junior College in North Dakota,
Brock first earned his keep by winning the Heavyweight bracket in the
North Dakota State University's annual Bison Open Tournament by beating
Brent Boeschans of Minnesota, a school that was/is a major force in the
world of NCAA wrestling. In 1998, Brock won his 2nd straight Bison Open
title, and became the Heavyweight (285 lbs.) bracket champion in the
National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), just before BJC
discontinued its wrestling program due to financial cuts following the
1997-98 school year. Minnesota wrestling coach J Robinson watched Brock
in awe at the Finals of the NJCAA and managed to sign him to transfer to
Minnesota. In just 2 years at BJC, Brock had accumulated a 56-3 record.
Now as a member of the Minnesota Gophers, Brock
seized the attention of Big Ten and NCAA wrestling fans with his
chiseled, ripped physique and a Bill Goldberg-like dominance of
opponents, going 24-1 in his first year, with his only loss coming from
Iowa State's Trent Hynek). Wading through the competition, Minnesota won
the Big Ten wrestling title in 1999, ending a 25 year win streak of
arch-rival Iowa. Unfortunately, Lesnar lost in the finals of the NCAA
Championships to Stephen Neal of Cal State-Bakersfield in a 3-2 decision
that cost Minnesota a chance to be National Champions; arch-rival Iowa
won instead.
In 2000, Brock and company wanted to prove that
1999 was no fluke. As he had in the past, Lesnar tossed aside all
opponents, coasting to a 26-1 record (with his defeat at the hands of a
close 5-3 decision from Iowa's Wes Hand) and ranked as the #1
heavyweight in the Big Ten. Brock avenged his loss by destroying the
Heavyweight bracket at the NCAA finals, then defeating Hand with a 3-2
decision in overtime with an escape in the final match, achieving a
lifelong dream by becoming an NCAA heavyweight champion. Overall, his
career wrestling record is 106-5 (56-3 at BJC, 50-2 at Minnesota).
Now the WWF came calling. Recalling his many
trash-talkings of Iowa and other various schools, and with the fast
success of former Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle, Brock was signed to
a training deal with the WWF. He is currently in Kentucky, training for
seasoning and character development work in the Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVH)
organization, a WWF farm federation headed by Jim Cornette. He has begun
to get in the WWF ring now,and had increased his body size and mass. This
man is going to go places!
As chants of "Goldberg,
Goldberg" echo throughout the arena, it is easy to see why comparisons are
drawn between the former WCW ace, and Brock Lesnar. Most men are monsters,
both men have incredible winning streaks to their name, and both men shot to
the top of their respective companies as quickly as anyone before. However
behind the ton of muscle and the monstrous looks, there is so much more to
Brock Lesnar, a former NCAA Champion, and a man who very much worked for his
push. For pure courage, the will-to-win and pure determination has driven
Brock Lesnar to the title of the 'next big thing'.
Lesnar first made an impact in the
amateur-wrestling arena. Competing for the University of Minnesota he captured
the NCAA Championship in March 2000. Unlike his surge to the top of World
Wrestling Entertainment however, Lesnar had a more slow and steady progression
in the amateur leagues. He never won a high school title, nor did any major
colleges employ him. It took him sixteen years on the amateur mats before he
won his first championship, which he earned at junior college in North Dakota.
From the success of his NCAA Championship, Lesnar lost interest in the amateur
game and decided to focus on Sport's Entertainment. He was signed by the then
World Wrestling Federation soon after his NCAA success and sent to Jim
Cornette's Ohio Valley Wrestling for development training. Lesnar soon became
a hit with his athleticism, amateur grounding, look, attitude and strength,
dazzling fans with his ability and work ethic. There he perfected his infamous
Shooting Star Press.
It wasn't too long before Lesnar was celebrating championship glory. He teamed
with fellow WWE development talent Shelton Benjamin and defeated the Disciples
of Synn Payne and Damian for the Ohio Valley Wrestling Southern Tag Team
Championship. Together he and Benjamin were known as the Minnesota Stretching
Crew and were amongst the most popular faces in OVW, which was undergoing its
transition from NWA to WWE affiliation.
Together, Lesnar and Benjamin held the tag team championship in OVW on three
occasions. Both men were used in dark matches, and famously regained the
championship from the Disciples of Synn at Freedom Hall in Louisville
immediately preceding a Smackdown taping. That title reign ended when Shelton
Benjamin was injured, and Brock too quickly found himself on the shelf. In
July 2001 he tore his posterior cruciate ligament and was sidelined for three
weeks.
Upon his return, Lesnar and Benjamin were soon celebrating a third
championship reign when they defeated Prototype and Rico Constantino to win
back the vacant titles. That victory on October 29 was short-lived as they
dropped the gold to Jason Lee and Derrick King on November 07.
Though that was the last of Brock's Ohio Valley Wrestling championships, he
was quickly on the road to glory with World Wrestling Entertainment. He was
soon thrust into regular dark match action, and then used frequently at house
shows. However Brock was no regular house show development jobber - instead he
scored numerous big victories, even defeating top mid-card talents like Lance
Storm.
It wasn't long before the impressive Lesnar got his call into the big-time -
and where better place to start a new beginning than the night after
WrestleMania?
In front of a regular Monday Night Raw crowd, Brock Lesnar made a shocking
appearance interrupting a Hardcore Championship match and duly throwing all in
his way around like rag dolls. The main victim that night was Spike Dudley,
who found himself on the receiving end of three short and sharp power bombs,
not to mention a devastating Helicopter Rack Pancake Spin, which, came to be
known as the F5. Perhaps the biggest shock though, was not the manner in which
the development talent debuted on then WWF television, but the man who stood
in his corner. Paul E Heyman, not seen on WWF television since November 19
following the defeat of the Alliance at Survivor Series, stood beside Brock
and raised his hand.
As the weeks past, the run-ins continued. Diamond Dallas Page, The Hardy Boys,
The Hurricane, Mighty Molly and more all fell victim to Lesnar's unprovoked
rage. On the night of the brand extension roster split, Lesnar made his impact
on Rikishi, delivering the F5 to the 350+ pound Samoan. Indeed the move was so
awesome that both Mr. McMahon and Ric Flair were desperate to acquire his
services - Flair won out on the night, as Lesnar became part of the Raw brand.
Lesnar's alliance with Heyman was explained the following week, as Paul E
revealed his acquisition of the 'Next Big Thing'. He stated that as the former
representative of both Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker, he knew
talent when he saw it. And in Brock Lesnar he saw the next big thing. So with
Paul E on board as Lesnar's agent it appeared that the rise to super-stardom
was underway. However it was not to be reached without a fight. The Hardy Boys
immediately stormed to the ring and attacked Lesnar for his previous assault
on them. Lesnar fought both Hardy's off, but eventually fell foul of two
wicked steel chair shots that knocked him to the outside. Held back by Heyman,
Brock made his way up the ramp with a smirk on his face.
The Hardy Boys and Lesnar continued to clash the following week as a match was
announced for Backlash pitting Lesnar against Matt Hardy. However Brock had
other ideas, assaulting Matt on the ramp way and delivering the F5 on the
steel. The match was soon re-evaluated to place Jeff against Brock. It was to
be Brock Lesnar's official debut and it was not to end with anything other
than a Lesnar annihilation. Though Jeff valiantly fought with all he had, he
was no match for the sheer brutality of Lesnar who crushed his opponent with
three successive power bombs that eventually forced referee Teddy Long to stop
the match. Lesnar had been victorious via knockout.
The next night on Raw Matt Hardy recovered to challenge Brock and desperately
attempt to gain revenge for his sidelined brother. Paul Heyman made his
intentions known, cavorting backstage with Lita and subjecting her to sexual
harassment. Though Matt's aggression peaked, he too was no match for Lesnar
and was duly destroyed in the same manner as Jeff - by knockout.
With both Hardy Boys sidelined, the Lesnar bandwagon rolled on. The next
victim was Shawn 'Planet' Stasiak and the rather bizarre but talented Stasiak
was crushed on Raw. However at the UK PPV Insurrextion the two men were forced
to team together to take on The Hardy Boys. Heyman desperately told Stasiak to
stay on the apron and let Brock do the work. However Stasiak ignored the pleas
and eventually took the loss for his team. An infuriated Brock took his
aggression out on The Hardy Boys and Stasiak once more, battering his own
partner, leading to another clash between the two on Raw. This time Lesnar was
content to pin his opponent after the F5 finisher.
Stasiak may have been destroyed, but The Hardy Boys were still begging for
more. They took on Brock in a handicap match the following week on Raw, and
this time came with an eyelash of gaining the first pinfall over Brock Lesnar.
However Paul Heyman dragged the referee out of the ring upon the delivery of
the Swanton Bomb, and so the result of the match will remain unknown as an
instant disqualification was called. Shockingly though Paul Heyman had a
bizarre solution to Lesnar's first official defeat. He challenged The Hardy
Boys to a tag team match pitting both brothers against Lesnar and Heyman at
Judgement Day. The challenge was accepted.
Those hoping to see Paul E crushed were to be disappointed. Lesnar was again
dominant, crushing both Hardy Boys to the point where Heyman requested his own
inclusion in the match to garner the cheap pin over Jeff Hardy. There was
seemingly no stopping Brock Lesnar.
The lecherous Heyman though was getting Brock into trouble. Having seen his
advances towards Lita fall flat he turned his attention to Trish. When Trish
walked away from his proposal of a date, Brock cornered the young Canadian.
This though led to the arrival of Bubba Ray Dudley who stood toe-to-toe with
Brock and got the better of an exchange between the two. The following week a
match was made, with Bubba attacking Paul Heyman backstage. He proved to be a
tremendous challenge to Lesnar and scored numerous near-falls. However Paul E
was once again at his best, distracting the referee long enough to allow Brock
to recover, it the F5 and gain another victory.
Lesnar had been steamed in controversy upon his arrival to WWE. On the flight
home from the Insurrextion PPV, he was involved in an aeroplane brawl with
Curt Hennig that saw 'Mr. Perfect' fired. Indeed the controversy continued as
Lesnar was booked into a match with Stone Cold Steve Austin on Raw. Austin,
who was rumoured to job that night, refused to accept the booking, and left
WWE television. Lesnar was instead booked into a King of the Ring Qualifying
Match against Bubba Ray Dudley once more.
Indeed Brock defeated Bubba Ray and also made his impact known later that
night. An impromptu match between Vince McMahon and Ric Flair had been
scheduled to determine the 100% owner of WWE. With Flair in control, Lesnar
made his way to the ring, intimidating Flair's friend Arn Anderson and then
crushing Flair allowing McMahon to pick up the controversial victory. Heyman's
returned favour for the interference was a proposed plan for the King of the
Ring tournament. Paul E had it made that the winner of the tournament would
progress to Summerslam and receive a shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship.
It was motivation for every man in the tournament.
None more so than Lesnar. He defeated Booker T in a Quarter-final thanks in
part to nWo interference and headed to the King of the Ring Pay-Per-View.
There Lesnar was on devastating form. He took on Test in the Semi-final and
with Test looking for the Big Boot, Heyman tapped his adversary. Test was
distracted long enough for Lesnar to hit the F5 and progress to the final.
There he met Rob Van Dam and this time the victory was more clear-cut. As RVD
looked for a top rope move, Lesnar caught him in mid-air, tossed him over his
head, hit the F5 and became the 2002 King of the Ring. A title shot at
Summerslam was in the bag.
A frustrated Rob Van Dam interrupted the coronation ceremony the next night on
Raw and pounded Lesnar with a series of sharp kicks all the way to the
outside. That night a rematch was booked and RVD seemed on his way to victory
when Heyman again caused a deliberate disqualification. Lesnar's vengeance was
not over there as he tossed Van Dam through the announce table.
Indeed vengeance was very much the theme as a match between the two for the
Pay-Per-View was made for the following week. Both were involved in each
other's affairs on Raw. First Brock and Paul E challenged any veteran in the
back to take on Brock. Ric Flair stepped up the plate, attempting to avenge
the manner in which he was screwed out of the ownership of WWE. However he was
no match for Lesnar. Later that night Rob Van Dam defeated William Regal. In
both matches, both men made their presence felt until a match was booked for
the Pay-Per-View.
From rookie to legend in an awesome rocket to the top - the Brock Lesnar story
reads like a fairytale of how to succeed in a profession. However Lesnar's
amateur base and training in the development leagues mean that this is one
rookie far beyond his years. Indeed his meteoric rise to the top of WWE can be
instantly justified by the search for new stars - and the fact is that Lesnar
may very well be the brightest star in that sky and almost certainly the new
big thing.
(5) Brock Lesnar over
Booker T with the F-5 in a match for the WWE Championship in under 10 minutes.
Brock takes the mike and claims scheduled opponent Undertaker is not here
tonight because he put him out of commission at Hell In A Cell. Not a lot of
substance in this match, but Booker was over. Poor looking ax-kick by the Book
tonight and a botched spinaroonie! Lots of Booker T chants
According to various sources
(including 1wrestling.com), Bill Goldberg will indeed be signing with World
Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) very soon. The original plan for him was a huge
The Rock vs. Goldberg main event for WrestleMania. Now that Kurt Angle will be
leaving the WWE for a year in order to undergo neck surgery and rehabilitate,
the WWE is looking to get Bill Goldberg signed quickly in order for him to
start a program with Brock Lesnar.
A WWE World Championship match between the champion Brock
Lesnar and Bill Goldberg for WrestleMania would most likely have top billing,
as Lesnar was WWE''s version of Goldberg. A match like this would definitely
help out the ratings and buyrate for the huge pay-per-view.
With the pay-per-view apparently costing fans $49.95 to
watch, a match like this would entice people to order. The card so far looks
very solid, and with the possibility of Bill Goldberg making his in-ring
wrestling debut for the WWE, it could be one of the best selling WrestleManias
in the past few years.
