The
Super Juniors
by Rob Rota
World Star Wrestling
is about to show all of the fans in NEPA and beyond the meaning
of the words "Super Juniors." Johnny Glitters WSW, has
signed some of the best up and coming, and already established Super
Jrs on the indies today. Just to bring everyone up to speed on the
jargon I'm using here lets take a couple of minutes for a history
lesson.
Super Juniors
is just another words for Cruiserweights, but Super Junior has its
roots in Japan where the style was made popular. In the early and
mid 90s All Japan Professional Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling
ran tournaments called Best of the Super Juniors in which the best
of the best were featured in high flying, hard hitting, and lucha
libre style matches. Some of the stars that came out of these tournaments
were likes of: Chris Beniot, Jushin Liger, Tiger Mask, Dean Malenko,
Black Tiger(Eddie Guererro), Shinjir Otani, Chris Jericho and as
the years went on.. newer stars emerged like Tajiri, Kendo Kashin,
and others. These men were just the beginning of this revolution
in wrestling. In the states several different independent companies
have run such tournaments with such names as: UPWs King of the Indies,
ECWAs Super 8, and JCWs J*Cup to just name a few. The names that
have come out of these tournaments are also some of the most well
known in wrestling today: Billy Kidman, Simon Diamond, Reckless
Youth, Crowbar (Devon Storm), Inferno Kid, Mike Quackenbush, Low-Ki,
AJ Styles, CM Punk, Colt Cabana, Scoot Andrews, Mark Briscoe, Donovan
Morgan, American Dragon.. and the list goes on and on and on.
This is the
history that will weigh heavily on the Juniors in WSW.. a new class
of Juniors who will prove to your their worth and work ethic on
WSW shows all over NEPA. I know your asking who will step up in
WSW to prove that they can become the new "Top of the Super
Juniors" (more jargon). Well I'm going to go over that right
now.
Lets start from
the top:
"Shooter"
Shawn Sheridan: SH3 has been in this business for well
over 3 years and has a "jaded" view on the sport. Having
been screwed over by friends and tag partners alike, Shawn has decided
to venture out by himself and prove to the wrestling community that
he isn't someone that can be pushed around. Sheridan was trained
in Gino Caruso's ECPW and has honed his skills in feds like JCW,
ISPW, Heritage, USA Pro, IWF and ECPW. Earlier this year Sheridan
was chosen as an alternate for JCW's 3rd Annual J*Cup and faced
off against JCW Light Heavyweight Champion Mark Briscoe. Although
Sheridan lost, he proved that his career as a Super Jr is bright
and that he is a definite choice for the field of 16 for next years
J*Cup. Sheridan is the proclaimed "Master of the Neck breaker"
with well over 15-20 different variations and each can be hit out
of any situation. It's moves like that, along with his experience
and Sheridans knowledge of intense chain wrestling that makes him
the top Super Junior in WSW right now and the obvious choice for
WSW Super Junior Champion.
Chris
Stylz: Chris Stylz has had his fair share of hard knocks
in a career that is just starting to take off. Stylz began his career
at the Hardway School and was trained by the Bad Crew. Due to politics
Stylz left the school and searched elsewhere for more training.
He ran into Tommy Suede and soon Suede took Stylz and helped Stlyz
further his in-ring ablity. After that Stylz took his abilities
to the road working for NWA-East, NCW, LAW, WWWA and Heritage, but
it was a booking for Nittany that took Chris Stylz to new levels.
While in Nittany Stylz met "Fast" Eddie Valentine and
John Dahmer who took Stylz under their wing and brought him down
to meet John Zandig in CZW. Soon Stylz was taught the current styles
of wrestling and since then has debuted for CZW with tag partner
Ian Knoxxx. So what makes Chris Stylz a good Super Jr when he has,
really, only worked tag for most of his career? Determination! Stylz'
intense training and up to date style makes him a very formidable
opponent. Can he be WSW Super Junior Champion? Maybe, but only Stylz
knows for sure!
"The
Amazing" Buzz: Buzz came into this sport around
the same time Chris Stylz did, infact both were trained at the same
school; Hardway. Buzz left Hardway when it seemed that the company
was breaking down. Since then he has been Stylz training partner
and on again/off again tag partner. Buzz also has that CZW feel
to him as he is stiff, aggressive and ready for whatever is thrown
in his way. Very reminiscent of the old NEPA UnderGround Scene.
Buzz is ready, willing and able to make himself known on the WSW
Juniors Scene.
Draven
Blaze:
Trained by Jesse Durning out of EGW in Philadelphia, Blaze is a
true believer in the more violent side of the sport yet he is a
high flyer who can take it to the air with the best of them. He
is still a rookie with WSW but his bouts with EGW were that of legend,
and he became favorite down in that promotion. He has brought his
hardcore, high-flying style to WSW and is ready to tangle with everyone
and anyone who gets in his path. Especially Donnie Brass who injured
Blaze's knee at the Camp Dost show and put Blaze on the shelf for
up to 6 months. Rest assured when Blaze returns, "Someone is
getting BURNED!"
"Dead
or Alive" Donnie Brass: Brass is, so to say, not
your traditional Junior but his style is overly traditional. Brass
was trained by Johnny Glitter at the BackBreakers School, and his
style is purely old school but that may be what makes Donnie Brass
so feared. The one common thread everyone in this article has is
that they work similar styles, but Brass does not. He works his
own style, a style that many say is opportunistic and that may give
him an advantage over everyone else when it comes to winning the
WSW Juniors title. Well his style and his newly found evil streak.
If Brass shows all the men above the same kind of aggression he
showed Draven Blaze at the Camp Dost show, then this man may very
well be the NEXT WSW Super Junior Champion.
G.Q.
Blaze: Many fans of WSW have only seen G.Q in tag matches
along side of Kage in the Degenerates of Society, but it turns out
that G.Q is a traditionally trained worker who, like Donnie Brass,
has a mostly old school style. Lately, G.Q has tried his hand at
singles competition at the Camp Dost show against Brother Rosh.
Unfortunelty, he came out on the losing end of that deal but sources
tell me that G.Q is ready to take on all comers in the WSW Juniors
Division. For the record though, there is no relation between G.Q
Blaze and Draven Blaze, except for maybe the passion to be at top
Junior in WSW!
"The
Clown Prince" IB Green: Though not much is known
about "The Clown Prince", it is known that he is the younger
brother of G.Q Blaze. Everything Green does, he does it with intensity
and passion. Green is willing to take risks that some people wouldn't
even consider taking. Even though his antics are very off the wall,
Green may be a serious competitor for the WSW Super Junior Title.
This impressive
list of Juniors may have some competition to deal with in the future.
For anyone who was at the Camp Dost show knows that several stars
from Jersey Championship Wrestling were in attendance and worked
on the show. Could JAP, JCW and J*Cup stars like Dave Greco (Former
JCW Light heavyweight Champion and J*Cup Competitor), Billy Reil
(J*Cup Competitor and all around amazing Junior), and Dixie (J*Cup
Competitor, and Former Jersey All Pro Wrestling Triple Crown Champion)
be coming to WSW to show you their worth?
This is an impressive
list of Juniors that are about to take WSW by storm, but what about
the rich history in NEPA of smaller workers from the Underground?
If anyone from the Underground were to pop up in WSW, I'm sure it
will give the Super Juniors Division in WSW a shot of extreme.
I hope this
has been an insightful look at the history of Super Juniors and
a look at the future of Super Juniors in World Star Wrestling.
