So what'll it be, fanboy?

  • The Jinky Cornoado Interview?
  • Or the Tozzer talk with creator Rob Dunlop?

  • Choose wisely and enjoy the ride.

The coolest sh*t in the comic book industry that Wizard magazine overlooks...

Nope, it's not from Marvel, DC or TopCow.

The coolest stuff out there is currently being published by Image Central, run by Jim Valentino (the dude who co-founded the company and introduced the world to Shadowhawk).  Not taking away from the creativeness that Valentino brought to the table with the Shadowhawk, but his latest endeavors as Publisher of Image Comics has ushered in a new angle for Image itself.

90% of the comics I read these days are Image titles which is trippy for me since I tend to gravitate towards indy publishers.  What I've come to realize though, is that a majority of Image Central is just that- independent projects.  Independent projects hand picked by Valentino and 'Central staff to expose to a larger market.

If Image Central were to be compared to a wrestling federation it would match up well with ECW (during the company's heyday).  ECW is where the performers were free to be as creative as they wanted to be.  They had a forum to express and challenge themselves and a core audience that got it.  Image Central is very much the same in that it offers creators a chance to show the world what they're capable of.

And here's where I'm gonna throw in my 2-cents and list the books I'm currently reading that your local comic shop probably isn't pushing:

'The Bunker' - Ever had a crush that lasted over a couple years?  Did your heart break when the recipient of your admiration didn't feel the same way?  Dreams, hope, love and coming of age all wrapped into an hour or so's worth of reading.  Instant Classic in my opinion.

'Liberty Meadows' - Again, have you ever had a crush that wouldn't go away?  Ever daydream of what could be with that special person?  That's fine and dandy, now add a buncha talking animals into the picture (no not that way, sicko) and you've got 'Liberty Meadows' which I recommend strongly for female readers looking for a fun, quick, sentimental fix.

'Noble Causes' - By far one of the best takes on superheroes.  What happens away from the public's eye with a family of superpowered beings and how much covering-up goes into keeping their image intact?

'Feather' - I'm not usually a fan of fantasy realm stories, but this book's charm and uniqueness in telling a dragon's story is a wonderful escape.  The artwork is stunning as well.

'Jack Staff' - Paul Grist is a genius!  This witty entry is my 2nd favorite superhero book currently on the market ('Noble Causes' being my first).  It reads like an old radio drama program and for kicks I like to read this one aloud with different voices for each character (no, stop looking at me like I need a shrink).

The artwork featured to your right is from 'SEI' by Sho Murase and looks incredible thus far.  For more information on some of the best stuff in comics that you're not reading, check out the Image Comics website and indulge all you want!

Dude, chicks rule!  There's no doubt about it...  Straight shootin' with 'snug Supah-Stahlet, Kelley Samuels.  Not recommended for the squeamish or fragile male ego.

Um, yup, I do tend to geek-out quite a bit on a variety of random things.  No real subject matter to this section, just a lot of Marking-out.  This week's subject is the amazing work of Michel Gagne.
