"Yappin'
With the Banzai Babe!"
By Todd Tochioka
So your resume can be
read as such: model, author, artist, beauty pageant winner, um...
anything else?
Wow, isn't that enough? (giggles) I was
Miss Pond's Asia -- you know, the cold cream company? -- back in '98.
I'm doing a little bit of modelling now, but most of my efforts are
focused on BANZAI GIRL -- both the comic book and the ever-expanding free
website.
Do you cook a lot?
A lot of RICE! And mostly Filipino food, such as
Adobo, Sinigang, beefsteak. Fresh seafood whenever I can get it --
cajun catfish, shrimp, crabs.
Do you enjoy traditional Filipino foods then?
Of course!
I'd imagine that moving to the United States
has introduced you to a lot of different foods as well.
Well, it almost all tastes the same!
So then what's your absolute favorite-favorite food?
Whole crab!
Did you eat well during the San Diego Comic Con?
Certainly not in the Convention Center! Ewwww.
We found some Filipino and Chinese restaurants during the whole week, and
seafood places. So I did fine. We even did OK at the Spaghetti
Factory. So where were you?
I uh, think I was, umm... Probably busy?
No, honestly, I was probably recovering from the night before, and the
night before that one... Sh*t, I know, I really look forward to the
annual Glasshouse / Euphoric rage at Spaghetti Factory. I seriously
hope we'll all be able to meet up next year for sure!
Me too. Dave Campiti talked a lot about you.
How was San Diego for you this year? Did you
have an enjoyable time?
I have one word for San Diego: Overwhelming.
My table was buried back in the No Man's Land of the Small Press Area,
which many fans couldn't even find, or were too exhausted to get to, or
ran out of time, money, and interest before they got there. I was
disappointed. It was so huge, to go to a panel or go meet someone
took an hour to get there and back!
That said, it was still wonderful to meet my
favorite cartoonist Sergio Aragones, and the always-classy Stan "The
Man" Lee. And quite a few Filipinos familiar with my website
came looking for me, which was great.
