Chapter 1
Nicoya stared out over the
parking lot from her corner office with a window. Behind her closed office
door, people were yelling about deadlines and various other things that happened
in her department. She hated her job at "daddy's company" and
resented the fact she was more or less handed the job because of her parents.
At age twenty, she was already
head of her own department. Fresh out of school with a BA in Marketing, her
father announced she was going to head the Marketing Department of the WWF,
which he owned. Her family was thrilled. Nicoya, however, was not. She had even
protested and tried the crying routine.
She told her father she wanted
to move to New York, so daddy moved her to New York and put her up in a
penthouse apartment. She wanted to find her own job, but daddy gave her the
Vice President of Marketing position at the New York office where her brother
Shane was Vice President of New Media and Stephanie was Vice President of
something. Nicoya wasn't even sure what Stephanie did other than travel with
her husband, Paul, who was a wrestler. She had tried to get out of the job by
telling her father that she wanted to go back to school and get her Masters.
With one phone call to the President of NYU, Nicoya was enrolled for the spring
semester that started in less than two months. Her father told her that would
give her enough time to "warm up" to her new job responsibilities
before adding on her schoolwork. Whatever Nicoya asked for, she got. And
whatever she didn't ask for, she also got. It was a never-ending circle that
she wanted out of. She wanted freedom and out from under her parents.
"Nicoya!" her door opened
and in walked her mother, dressed in her usual power suit. "Why weren't
you at the excutive meeting?" Linda made herself comfortable in one of the
desk chairs opposite of Nicoya's desk.
"I was at another meeting. That's
why Mackenzie went in my place." Nicoya spun around in her chair and
focused on her mother. Linda handed over a manilla envelope and sat back in her
chair. "And this is what?" Linda smiled. "Mother...I don't like
that smile." Nicoya opened the folder and saw the minutes from the
meeting, neatly typed by her mother's assistant. She skimmed through them until
she reached the marketing section. She read them carefully to make sure that
Mackenzie had given the report that they had worked on.
"Congratulations on hitting the
million mark for marketing." Linda smiled. "You're doing great. Everyone's
proud of you." Nicoya closed the folder and faked a smiled. It wasn't hard
to manage a billion dollar company's marketing department when you had an
office of 200 people doing the work for you. It also helped that people where
practically knocking down the doors trying to get the WWF to advertise with
them. But that was only as long as the storylines weren't as raunchy as they
used to be. "How about coming home for the weekend and spending some time
with your family? Stephanie and Shane are going to be home."
"I'd rather not." Nicoya
placed the folder in her briefcase while Linda frowned at her. "I've got a
ton of things to do." Nicoya avoided her mother's stare. "Plus you
and daddy are leaving for Tampa on Saturday."
"You're suppose to be going also,
Nicoya." Linda's voice was stern as if she was punishing her. Nicoya felt
like she was six years old again when she was caught cutting Stephanie's hair.
"You have a very important meeting with your father and the WCW to go over
their marketing plans since the buyout." Nicoya nodded, knowing exactly
what the next week had in store for her. She had to bite her tongue from saying
something nasty to her mother, which would only cause problems down the line.
"It wouldn't hurt to spend a little time with us. Especially after all
we've done for you." Linda stood up and smoothed down her skirt.
"We'll see you on Friday for dinner." Linda walked out of the office,
shutting the door behind her.
"Everything you've done for
me?" Nicoya said to the empty room. "You've handed everything to me.
Just like you've handed everything to Stephanie and Shane." She leaned
back in her chair and closed her eyes. The day still wasn't over; she had a
meeting with three of the top wrestlers in the company to go over a promotional
deal with an advertising company. The company had offered $500 thousand up
front if she could get the top wresters to do some commercials and print ads
for different products. Not only was it a bonus for her, but extra money for
the guys. Looking at the clock, she realized that her mother's visit put her
behind schedule and she was late for the meeting. She took the information she
needed and headed out of her office and toward the conference room.
Mark Callaway, Glen Jacobs and Paul
Levesque sat in the conference room, waiting patiently for Nicoya. They all
knew that she was busy, but she had been the one to call this meeting and now
she was late.
"Hi...sorry I'm late."
Nicoya hurried into the room and slid into a chair at the head of the table.
"Linda stopped in to talk to me and we all know how that goes."
"Get to the point, Nicoya."
Mark said leaning back in his chair like he had better things to do.
"What's this whole meeting about?" Mark didn't especially like
Nicoya. She had a reputation of being even more spoiled than Stephanie, and
Mark thought that was hard to do. Especially since Stephanie had recently
married Paul. Nicoya glanced at Mark and then began talking about the
promotional deal that was brought to them. After an hour of listening to her
try to convince them, the guys finally agreed. "Can we leave?" Mark
stood up and tossed the pen at her after she nodded. He walked out of the room
without saying goodbye to anyone.
"Don't worry about him."
Paul put his arm over Nicoya's shoulder and squeezed. "He's just moody.
Are you going to your mom and dad's this weekend?" Nicoya waved at Glen as
he left to catch a plane to the next town.
"Do I have a choice?" Nicoya
gathered up her papers and looked up at Paul. "Mom is making me. Don't
want to be the ungrateful little brat everyone thinks I am." Paul chuckled
and stepped back from the table. "I'll catch you later. I have some
paperwork to do." Nicoya smiled and left the room. She went back to her
office and collapsed on the couch. She was exhausted and wanted to go home, but
it was only three in the afternoon. The phone startled her and she jumped up to
grab it. "Hello?"
"Nic?" her father asked into
the phone. "Are you ok?" Nicoya sat on the edge of her desk and
looked out the window again.
"I'm fine daddy. What can I do
for you?" she asked. Vince refused to call her Nicoya, she knew why, but
it was one of the many skeletons hidden in the McMahon closet. He was always
calling her Nic or Nicki, but Linda and everyone else called her Nicoya.
"Wanted to see how the meeting
went." Vince was on his cell phone and she could hear the background noise
of the ring and stage going up at the arena. "Are you coming to the show
tonight?"
"No. I'm going home." Nicoya
tapped the edge of the desk. "It's just a house show, Daddy. Nobody big is
going to be there." Vince covered up the phone and said something to
someone. "I can't talk right now. If you want to talk later, I'll be at
home."
"Ok honey. I'm going to transfer
some more money into your account so you can pay this month's bills." he
said before he hung up the phone. Nicoya sighed. More of Daddy's money was
being given to her. Nicoya slid off the desk and stood up. She was sick of
being cooped up in the office. She grabbed her purse and briefcase and walked
into the office.
"Mackenzie?" Nicoya looked
around for the office manager and saw her sitting at her desk. She walked over.
"I'm leaving."
"Must be nice for Daddy's little
girl to just leave when she wants to." Mackenzie didn't bother looking up
at her. Nicoya felt like she had been slapped in the face. She knew Mackenzie
didn't like her, but she didn't have to be rude. "I thought you were
leaving."
"I am." Nicoya stood up
straight and headed toward the elevator. That was another reason she hated
being a McMahon. Everyone thought she was just like Stephanie and Shane.
Spoiled.
Chapter 2
Mackenzie sat at her desk, flipping
through some paperwork, seething. Another boring meeting she'd had to sit
through that morning, and all because her royal highness couldn't be bothered
to go. She hated this job, with its endless meetings and deadlines, dull
people, idiotic sponsors that she had to deal with, and all the millions of
other things that went along with being 'management'. But being this close to
the man in charge almost made it worth the hassle.
She looked up in time to see Nicoya
slipping into the meeting room across the hall. Sighing, she shook her head.
The big deals came along, and Daddy's little girl was always the one that got
the credit. Never mind that it had taken Mackenzie and 5 others almost a month
to draw up suitable contracts, get the sponsor to sign, and make sure that the
superstars they wanted were free. It wasn't long before Mark came storming out,
looking like somebody had just pissed him off. The sight of him made Mackenzie
smile. He was probably the only person in the world who absolutely could not
stand Nicoya, and couldn't be charmed by her.
He saw her looking at him, and paused
for a second, giving her a little lift of his chin before heading out of the
office. Damn, he was one hot man. She could see why he intimidated so many
people. Hell, on size alone he looked like he could wipe out a few dozen guys
in one swing. Throw in the attitude, and most normal men went running in the
opposite direction. Mackenzie knew that he made Nicoya extremely uncomfortable.
When none of the other two men that
were in the meeting room came out immediately, Mackenzie stood from her desk
and wandered through the corridor to the elevator. The hall was empty. 'Damn,'
she muttered to herself. She'd hoped that she might get a few minutes alone
with Mark to see what the deal was.
"Problem?" Deep voice, right
behind her. Mackenzie didn't know how he did that. A man that size should make
some noise when he was moving around. She smiled at him, pushing her dark hair
back over her shoulder.
"I forgot my money," she
said, nodding in the direction of a vending machine that was set up near the
elevator. "Guess I really wasn't as hungry for a candy bar as I thought I
was." She tried to sound flirty, but couldn't quite pull it off. It wasn't
her style to be obtuse about anything. She was very blunt and straightforward.
Mark studied her for a second, and then smiled slowly. Mackenzie lifted an
eyebrow and waited. "Well, from the look you gave me back in the office,
I'd swear you came out here looking for more than a Payday."
"Depends," she gave up on
the cutesy act, and stared up at his green eyes. "I did come out here to
explore my nut options."
He blinked at her, and then grinned.
Just then, the hallway door opened and Glen stepped through. "Can you
believe that money?" He asked Mark, pushing the elevator button. Mackenzie
gave Mark one last glance, taking in his whole body, then smiled at both men and
went back into the office. Mission accomplished. She'd made contact, and he
wouldn't forget her. It was a start. She'd just have to wait and see if he'd
grab the lead she'd given him.
Mackenzie passed Paul in the hallway,
and completely ignored him. She felt nothing but a vague disgust for him. He
did sleep with Stephanie, the original ice princess. Sometimes she wondered
what he did to keep his dick from getting terminal frostbite. Sinking back into
her chair, she tapped on her computer, bringing up Mark's file. All his
essentials were there, including cell phone number. She jotted it down and
stuck it in her purse for later use.
It was a little after 4 when there was
a noise at the door. Mackenzie didn't even have to look up. Nicoya told her she
was leaving for the day, as if Mackenzie would really give a rat's ass. If any
of the McMahon's actually worked the same hours in office as the rest of the
people there, it would be a miracle. She almost felt bad when Nicoya seemed to
be hurt by her smart comments, but shook it off. She didn't have time, or the
urge, to feel any sympathy toward the other woman.
As soon as she was gone, Mackenzie
relaxed. She finished up a few last minute details on some marketing contracts
she'd been working one, then took a few minutes to straighten her office.
Finally, it was 5, time to call it quits and head out for some fun with real
people. Fingering Mark's number in her purse, Mackenzie smiled to herself and
turned off the lights, locking her office up behind her.
Chapter 3
The week flew by and before Nicoya
knew it she was pulling up in front of the McMahon estate in Hartford,
Connecticut. The house loomed over the property and looked almost eerie in the
moonlight. She parked her car behind Shane's and took a deep breath before
getting out.
"You're late." Linda's voice
rang through the house as Nicoya stepped inside the entryway. "Dinner is
at seven and what time is it, Nicoya?" Linda came down the stairs in a
white pantsuit. She looked immaculate as always. "Do you not have a
watch?"
"I told Daddy I wasn't coming for
dinner. I had a meeting at five." Nicoya headed up the stairs and brushed
past her mother. "If you and Daddy would talk, then maybe you would have
known." Linda's eyes narrowed as she watched her youngest daughter go up
the stairs to her old bedroom. Once inside her room, Nicoya threw her bag down
on the bed and paced the floor. She felt caged up in the house. She opened her
closet and sorted through the clothes that were still hanging.
"What are you doing?" Nicoya
jumped at the sound of her sister's voice. "Going somewhere?" Nicoya
glanced over her shoulder at Stephanie. Stephanie leaned against the doorframe
and smiled. "You don't even come say hi to your favorite sister?"
"You're my only sister and I see
you every day." Nicoya shut the closet door after pulling out a tight
black skirt and sheer black blouse. "And yes I'm going out. Going down to
a bar and having some fun. You game?" Before Nicoya had moved and
Stephanie had gotten married, they use to go to clubs and bars whenever they
could get away with it. Since then, they had sort of drifted apart. Stephanie
was always busy with Paul or off to some show.
"What about mom and dad?"
Stephanie glanced out the door. She could hear them in the living room talking
to Shane about the company. "Think they'll notice?" Nicoya shook her
head. "And Paul? Should he come too?"
"Yeah, they won't be so freaked
out about their precious daughters being out on the town if they know he's with
us." Nicoya laughed. "Go get dressed. You're not going out in
that." Stephanie looked down at her slacks and blouse. "You look so
uppity."
"I'm a McMahon." Stephanie
laughed and stuck her nose in the air. She smiled at Nicoya before she shut the
door.
"Damn right you're a McMahon.
Identical to mom down to the attitude." Nicoya muttered. Stephanie annoyed
her more now than ever. It didn't get worse until she married Paul and thought
she was just "that damn good" to steal Paul's catch phrase. Nicoya
buttoned her blouse and thought about Paul. He was tall, almost 6'5", with
long blonde hair and the deepest blue eyes Nicoya had ever seen, and he was
built. Every time she saw him, his arms seemed to be even bigger. She shook her
head to get the thoughts of Paul out of her head and finished getting dressed.
Vince and Linda didn't even notice
when the three of them walked out of the house and got into Paul's car. Nicoya
smiled. They were too busy praising Shane over something he had done. Paul sang
along with the radio as Stephanie directed him to a bar that they use to go to,
while Nicoya sat in the backseat looking out the window and thinking.
The bar was dark and the music was
loud, just the way Nicoya liked it. She walked up to the bar and ordered
herself a Jack and Coke and watched the dance floor. Paul and Stephanie were
already dancing, but Paul looked out of place and uncomfortable. Nicoya downed
the rest of her drink and decided to save Paul from Stephanie's grasp for a
little while.
"Steph, why don't you go say hi
to Duke. He's up at the bar." Nicoya walked up to Stephanie. Paul smiled
and mouthed 'thank you' to her. "He was asking if you were here."
"Ok. Hon, you want
anything?" Stephanie asked. Paul shook his head. Stephanie grinned and
headed in the direction of the bar.
"Thank God." Paul laughed
taking Nicoya's arm and leading her toward a table. They could see Stephanie
laughing with the bartender and in the five minutes they were watching her, she
had done two shots of some amber liquid. "Looks like Steph is going to be
down for the count tonight." Nicoya laughed. "She can't hold her
liquor."
"You don't have to tell me...I
already know." Nicoya motioned for the waitress and ordered her and Paul a
drink. They talked for a while about the marketing promotion and then the
conversation turned toward family. "Paul...you know I don't like talking
about the family." He started to say something, when Stephanie staggered
up to the table. "Hi Steph."
"C'mon, babe...let's go
dance." Stephanie was drunk off her ass and they had only been there an
hour. "Nicoya, get him to dance with me." Paul shook his head at
Stephanie, who put her hands on her hips and pouted like she always did when
she wasn't getting her way. Even drunk Stephanie was acting spoiled. "Fine...I'm
going to go dance myself. You keep him entertained, Nicoya." She left in a
huff and headed onto the dance floor where she found a guy to dance with.
"I owe you big time." Paul
smiled. "Just let me know when you want me to repay you." Nicoya
glanced at him. If she was correct, he was flirting with her. She wasn't too
experienced with me, only having one boyfriend, who happened to be a wrester.
Vince and Linda almost had dual heart attacks when they found out that she was
dating Jeff Hardy.
Nicoya had met Jeff backstage at a
Smack down taping not too long after she had been forced to start attending the
shows. Vince had been "priming" her to get into the business. She was
sitting on a black leather couch in Vince's office reading through that night's
scripts when she heard people talking outside. Being somewhat nosey, which she
figured must be in the McMahon genes; she wandered into the hallway and right
into Jeff Hardy. They got to talking and before she knew it he asked her out.
No one knew about the two of them until Nicoya invited Jeff home with her for
Thanksgiving. The look on Vince and Linda's face was priceless when Jeff and
Nicoya walked into the dining room hand in hand. Vince immediately warmed up to
the idea of his youngest daughter dating a wrestler. He believed that Nicoya
was going to be just like Stephanie and that made him proud. Linda, on the
other hand, was disgusted by the thought of Nicoya dating the young man with
multi-colored hair. Eventually, the two grew apart when Nicoya moved to New
York and he had won the Intercontinental belt. They're scheduled never seemed
to mesh and they called it quits. Linda had a long talk with her daughter with
the whole emphasis being, don't associate yourself with wrestlers. They're not
good enough for a McMahon, even though an eyelash wasn't even batted when
Stephanie and Paul got married.
That was a whole other story that was
leaking out of the McMahon closet. Stephanie and Paul had been written into a
storyline where they were married. Stephanie turned against her father and
"took over" the WWF with Paul, or Triple H, as the fans knew him.
Little did everyone know, that after Paul and his old live-in girlfriend,
Joanie, also known as Chyna, broke up, the sparks flew between Stephanie and
Paul in real life. The two tied the knot a little over a year ago in real life
and Nicoya had to laugh when the fans thought it was a storyline. She had
practically loved the "take over" storyline and tried to help behind
the scenes with it.
"You're quiet." Paul stroked
Nicoya's hand and watched her. "You thinking about anything in
particular?"
"Just remembering some old
storylines that I use to like." Nicoya blushed at being caught in
fantasyland.
"How about you and I go dance. I
love this song." Paul agreed, figuring he couldn't mess up a slow dance.
They both looked for Stephanie, but she seemed to have gotten lost in the crowd
on the dance floor.
Paul pulled Nicoya close to him and
rested his chin on her head. "How are things with you and Steph?"
"Could be better, could be
worse." Paul looked down at Nicoya. "Daddy's Billion Dollar Princess
is just spoiled and she knows it." Nicoya nodded, she also hated that
nickname. She was considered the "other" billion-dollar princess. No
one seemed to say anything about Shane though and she could never figure that
out. Nicoya looked up at him and smiled. She had an image of her and Paul
together. What a perfect way to get at Stephanie. "You're smiling."
"Am I?" Nicoya winked at him
and rested her head against his chest.
Chapter 4
Mackenzie pulled out her cell phone
and stood next to her desk, waiting impatiently for the line to ring through.
Friday had seemed like it was never going to get there. But finally, it had
arrived. Now it was after 6, and the floor was deserted. Mackenzie had walked
through to make sure, and then had returned to her office. She'd dropped hints
all day about needing to catch up on some correspondence, so anyone that saw
her or her car there wouldn't be suspicious of her.
Now, if she could get Mark to cooperate.
She listened as the phone clicked a few more times, and then started to ring on
the other end. She'd thought of little else the past few days. She was about to
give up when the line was connected.
"'Lo," again that deep
voice. It sent a shiver of anticipation up her spine.
"Hi, is this Mark?" she
asked sweetly, settling on the edge of her desk.
"Yeah, who's this?" he
sounded a little ticked. Mackenzie smiled.
"Well, you might remember me from
the other day. I was looking for a candy bar by the elevators?"
"Right. Payday lady. What can I
do for you?"
"Actually, it's what I can do for
you. You see, I'm the office manager, and I was just going through my paperwork
and I noticed that Nicoya didn't get you to sign off on a few pages of you're
commercial contract. They have to be in the mail on Monday. And since I heard
that you were in town tonight, I thought I'd see if you wouldn't mind stopping
by and taking care of it."
He sighed. "Yeah, I guess I'd
better get it over with. Won't have to deal with the Princess now will I?"
Mackenzie heard the tightening in his voice, and smiled again.
"Oh, no. The resident royalty has
left the building for the weekend. It's just me here," she added
suggestively.
"I can be there in about 20
minutes," Mark said, his own voice holding a smile. Mackenzie disconnected
and sank into her chair, grinning. This was probably the only thing she had in
common with those moron McMahons. She saw something she wanted and she went for
it. And right now she wanted a piece of the Dead Man.
He must have been closer than she
thought. Either that or he completely ignored the speed limit signs. Mackenzie
heard footsteps in the hallway ten minutes after she’d disconnected her phone.
Smiling, she stood up, quickly undoing the top two buttons on her blouse. She
glanced down, frowned, and undid one more, satisfied with the cleavage she was
flashing.
Mark knocked but didn’t wait for her
to answer. He pushed the door open and strode inside, looking like he was in a
hurry to get out of there. He stopped short when he saw Mackenzie standing
there, shirt half undone, hip leaning on the desk. She was smiling at him, a
wicked gleam in her eyes. Without thinking about it, he pushed the door shut,
then moved to sit in the
chair in front of Mackenzie’s desk.
“Papers?” he asked, lifting an eyebrow
and settling back against the cushion. Mackenzie moved around the desk, and
then leaned back against it so he was less then a foot away from her.
“I lied. But you already knew that,
right?” she put her hands on either side of her hips, making her shirt spread a
little. She smiled when his eyes were riveted to her chest. She lowered her
voice. “I just thought you might be interested in a little…after hours
entertainment. You know, since you’re only in town for one day.”
“What did you have in mind?” he asked,
running his tongue over his upper lip.
“Oh, I don’t know. Dinner, dancing…a
movie, a museum. Anything catching your interest?” She crossed one ankle over
the other, drawing his attention to her long bare legs under her short skirt.
“I already ate, I don’t dance, movies
bore me, museums put me to sleep,” he stated, his eyes roaming her body. “Wanna
try again?”
Mackenzie smiled and pushed herself up onto the desk. She’d anticipated this,
moving everything into the drawers so the top of it was bare except for her
computer monitor on the corner. “Maybe something a little more involved?” She
crossed her legs and ran her hand over her thigh, pushing her skirt up a
little.
She saw him swallow, but he stayed
sitting back in the chair, looking relaxed as ever. Slowly she sat up straight,
running both hands up the front of her shirt and stopping to cup her breasts
for a moment before sliding to the buttons. “Any objections?”
Mark gave her a crooked smile and shifted in his chair a little. “None at all.
You’ve definitely got my attention.”
“Good. Now…” with another smile at
him, she slowly unbuttoned her shirt, pulling the ends out of her skirt. She
shrugged it off her shoulders then tossed it to the floor. She raised an
eyebrow at him. “Care to lend a hand?”
Mark slowly stood up, towering over her. He put his hands on her waist, letting
his fingers feel her soft skin before sliding them up her sides and over her
ribs. His fingers quickly unlatched the front hook of her lacey bra, and he
pushed it from her breasts. He took her in for a minute, not
touching her just yet.
“Like what you see?” She couldn’t help
but tease him. He looked so damn intense.
“Mm, you wanna know what I’d really
like?” he asked, leaning forward so his lips were inches from hers.
“I can guess,” she murmured, tangling
her hands in his long red hair and pulling him to her, kissing him forcefully.
She moaned in pleasure when he pushed his tongue into her mouth, tasting her,
sliding against her own probing tongue. He finally pulled back, breathing
heavily and looking at her through clouded eyes. Mark slid his hands up,
cupping her breasts, squeezing them together. Mackenzie leaned back, resting
her weight on her hands and giving him free reign to explore her body. His
palms moved over her, his fingers tracing her ribs and tickling her belly
button before roaming back up to her hard nipples.
Mackenzie gasped when he moved his
fingers over them, and moaned out loud when he rolled them between his thumb
and forefinger. He leaned over her, his hot breath making her nipples pucker
into even harder peaks. He flicked his tongue over one, then the other before
sucking her into his mouth. She arched up into him, feeling her stomach clench
up every time his tongue moved across her sensitive nipple.
He cupped the breast he was working
over in one hand, and slowly moved the other hand down her body. Mark caressed
her thigh, squeezing it gently before slipping a hand under her skirt. He
stopped and pulled back from her breast to give her a surprised look. Mackenzie
grinned, then shifted and reached down, pulling her skirt up higher on her
waist. For this occasion, she’d taken the underwear off before he’d gotten
there.
“I’m a good girl scout,” she murmured,
wiggling around to get the skirt up to her waist. Mark parted her legs, running
both hands up her thighs. His fingers skimmed across her skin, then slowly
parted her. He used his thumb to lightly brush her clit, making her hips buck a
little off the desk.
After a few minutes of this torture,
Mackenzie sat up and pushed him back a little. With a slight smile, she tugged
his T-shirt off and scraped her nails over the smooth skin of his chest. She
tilted her head, taking one on his flat nipples between her teeth and suckling
on it. She worked her hands over the zipper of his jeans, quickly opening it
and sliding them off his hips.
Mackenzie pulled back and admired his
body, taking in all of his tattoos. Her hand lightly drifted over his erect
cock, feeling the satiny skin under her fingertips. He slid back and forth in
her hand, and she milked him, gripping him in her fist while he moved. Mark
closed his eyes as her fingers played over him.
Mackenzie suddenly stopped moving, and
let go of him. He opened his eyes and stared down at her. She smiled and leaned
back, bracing herself on her elbows. “Enough playing around.” He didn’t need
any more encouragement.
Mark grabbed her waist and pulled her
to the edge of the desk. Mackenzie wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling
him closer to her. He guided his cock into her, pushing slowly until he was
completely sheathed. She held still for a second, getting used to the size of
him before slowly rotating her hips. Mark sucked in a breath, then growled and
pushed even deeper into her body.
He leaned forward, placing his hands
on either side of her. Mackenzie lay back and reached up, tangling her hands in
his long red hair again. “Fuck me…” she managed to moan out, her hands
tightening painfully when he complied. His hips pumped back and forth, moving
in and out in long deep thrusts. Her hips came up off the desk to meet his
thrusts, urging him faster. They were both moaning, Mackenzie’s fingernails
digging into his shoulders, drawing blood as her climax hit her. She screamed
out his name, her body convulsing up into him. With a last push, Mark came into
her, his cock twitching deep inside her as her body milked him. Mark held
himself over her for a few minutes, trying to catch his breath. Her legs were
still wrapped tight around his waist, and the feel of them against his skin was
almost enough to make him crazy. Sighing, he slowly withdrew from her, easing
her legs down and helping her to sit up.
Mackenzie smiled at him and ran her
finger down his chest. “Better than a movie wasn’t it? And you have time to
catch your plane.” He groaned at the reminder, but realized he’d have to hurry
if he was going to make it on time. He got dressed, and then paused in front of
her. She was still perched on the desk, her legs crossed again. Leaning back
and looking pleased with herself. He bent forward and brushed his lips over
hers.
“I’ll see you later,” he said quietly,
running his hand one last time over her breasts. Mackenzie smiled and nodded a
little. She had no intentions of a repeat performance. One time was always
enough.
“I’ll be here,” she said, stroking his
cheek. Hell, what could it hurt to make him think she’d be sitting her pining
over him? Might make him feel good. Mark gave her a half smile, then turned and
walked out the door, shutting it behind him.
As soon as his footsteps faded,
Mackenzie hopped off the desk onto wobbly legs and got dressed. She wanted to
go home now, relax in a tub of hot water, and waste the whole weekend thinking
about absolutely nothing. With one last look around her office, she smiled to
herself and headed for the elevator.
Chapter 5
Nicoya watched Stephanie and Paul slow
dancing, her mind spinning. She had a plan and she was pretty sure that Paul
would be the perfect accomplice. She knew he had a wandering eye and also knew
that Stephanie was pretty oblivious to everything unless it dealt with her.
She'd never suspect her husband was screwing around on her, much less with her
sister. She slid off her bar stood and sauntered over to where Paul looked at
her and smiled. Stephanie looked at her too and pulled away from Paul.
"Wanna cut in?" she slurred.
"I'm going to go to the lady's room." She stumbled away and Nicoya
looked up at Paul with a gleam in her eye.
"Wanna dance?" Paul wrapped
his arm around Nicoya, pulling her against him. Nicoya shook her head.
"Then what do you want to
do?"
"How about going to the car with
me?" Nicoya ran her hand down his chest and smiled. "I have something
you might want." She felt odd making the first move. She felt slutty, but
she wanted Paul and she wanted to get at Stephanie. She took Paul's hand and
led him outside into the parking lot.
Nicoya climbed into the backseat of
Stephanie's SUV. She motioned for him to climb in with her and he did after checking
the parking lot. Nicoya didn't waste and time and immediately unzipped his
jeans.
"What are you doing?" Paul
gasped as he felt her hand wrap around his cock. Nicoya moved onto the floor in
front of Paul and licked her lips.
"What's it look like I'm
doing?" Nicoya whispered before taking him into her mouth. Paul groaned
and grabbed a handful of her hair. After a few minutes, she looked up at him
and he was watching her with lust filled eyes. "Do you like that?"
Her hand stroked his sensitive skin and she smiled as his cock jerked in her
hand.
"Let's just say that Stephanie
isn't that talented with her mouth...when she decides to do that." Paul
pulled Nicoya up on the seat next to him and kissed her.
"I take it the ice princess is
also selfish?" Nicoya laughed as Paul unbuttoned the front of her blouse
before pushing it off her shoulders. She closed her eyes as his tongue flicked
over her hardned nipples.
"Now should I ask you the same
stupid ass question you asked me?" Paul gently bit the nipple he had in
his mouth. "Mmmm....." Paul's hands pushed Nicoya's skirt up to her
hips, before sliding his thumbs along the sides of her lace panties.
"Do you know how long it's
been?" Paul asked kissing her flat stomach. He slid her panties down her
legs and then tossed them onto the floorboard. He looked up at her and slid one
of his fingers into her. He watched as her mouth opened and her eyes closed as
his finger moved slowly in and out of her. "It's been almost a
month....and I'm more than ready." He kissed her stomach again before
sliding a second finger into her. Her hips raised against his hand when his
thumb touched her clit. "Want me to return the favor?" Nicoya wasn't
able to talk. She only nodded her head. Paul moved down and flicked his tongue
over her clit, making her jump. He held onto her hip with his other hand to
keep her from moving, then went back to teasing her.
"Fuck me now...please."
Nicoya begged after her body was rocked by an orgasm. Paul sat up and slid his
pants off, then moved overtop of her.
"You going to beg for it,
baby?" Paul slid his cock into her a little then pulled back out. Nicoya
grabbed hold of his ass and pulled him into her, making them both groan.
"I like this better." His breath was hot against her ear as he kissed
and nibbled her neck. She met his every thrust and knew she was going to be
sore in the morning. Jeff was the only guy she had been with and he wasn't as
big as Paul, plus it had been almost six months since they had broken up.
"I'm going to cum...." Paul thrusted hard into her and let out sound
that was close to a growl. Paul collapsed on top of her, both of them breathing
hard. "Sorry it wasn't longer...." his voice trailed off as he caught
his breath. "Next time it'll be longer." Nicoya pushed him off her.
"How do you know they'll be a
next time?" she asked as she adjusted her skirt and blouse. "You
sound pretty sure of yourself." Paul grinned and kissed her roughly.
"Don't tell me you wouldn't like
to do this again when we have more time." Paul pulled on his jeans and
buttoned them. "And somewhere more comfortable." He gazed over her
body and back up to her eyes.
"Well then...now that you're
seeing it my way...when I get back from Florida...maybe you should ditch my
sister for a night and come visit me." Nicoya slid on her shoes and winked
at him. "I have to go check on Stephie...make sure she doesn't suspect
anything." Nicoya ran her finger along his jawline and grinned as she got
out of Stephanie's car. "See ya inside." Paul tucked in his t-shirt
and watched Nicoya head inside the bar again.
"Why do I get hooked up with
these women?" he laughed as he got out and locked the car up.
Chapter 6
The plane was late, Shane couldn’t
believe it he checked his watch for the umpteenth time before going to the desk
to annoy the clerk once again.
“I’ll check for you sir” her voice was
light but the underlying irritated tone was evident.
Shane drummed his fingers on the desk
“Come on! Come on!” he muttered, at this rate he would have to drive like a bat
out of hell to get to his meeting and he wouldn’t have time to stop at the
house.
“Sir” the woman waited for him to look
at her “The plane is landing now.” Shane
nodded and thanked her before walking to the gate.
Stepping on to the floating walkway Reece couldn’t help but yawn it had been a
long flight and her day wasn’t over yet. There was something about planes that
made it impossible to sleep, instead Reece caught up on the reading she had
been neglecting and she looked over the contract Shane had expressed to her.
She knew little if anything about Human Resources, especially for a high
profile business like this but what she didn’t know in practice she made up for
in the research department and she knew that’s what Shane needed her for but
what she was researching he hadn’t told her yet. Her fellow long haul passenger
bid her farewell as he rushed up the gangway and towards the immigration desk,
Reece waved slightly shouldering her carry on as she followed the rest of the
holiday makers up the ramp way.
“Reece!” Shane almost yelled as Reece moved out of the gate pushing a small
trolley, she smiled and made her way quickly over to him. Shane greeted her
with a rib-bruising hug, he looked like the perfect businessman all black suits
and briefcases but beneath that veneer was a strong muscular body built to
fight if needed.
“Sheesh wanna let me breath a little!”
Reece joked.
Shane quickly let her go and grabbed
her suitcase, “Good flight?” he asked in a rushed tone as his hand nestled in
the hollow of her back and rushed her to the doors.
“Not as rushed as you are! Got
somewhere to go?”
Shane nodded “Meeting” he answered making short work of the car park
“You want me to get a taxi?” Claire
asked, as they weaved through the cars.
“Of course not. This is us.” He
stopped by a black salon with tinted windows. After dumping her bags in the
boot he opened the door for her to slip in to the passenger seat.
Reece took in the scenery as they drove, her mind wasn’t all that focused right
now, it still felt hazy from the plane. “So” she began pulling a pair of
sunglasses from her bag “Why am I here?” Shane glanced at her and smiled.
“You needed a new job and I needed a
HR manager.”
Claire chuckled “Yeah right! Come on
Shane Uni didn’t make me brain of Britain but it didn’t make me dumb!”
Shane smirked “What? I can’t pull
strings to get a friend a gig!”
“You’re a business man! Business men
don’t hire ex-writers to be HR managers they hire they to do publicity or
research or whatever it is you have in mind.”
Shane smiled broadly “You know me so
well!”
Reece rested her head back “I know you
well enough to know you got something up your sleeve and I’m not sure I’m gonna
like it.”
“I’m really sorry about this, but...”
Reece waved his apology away “Point me
in the direction of coffee and I’ll be fine” Shane nodded and pointed her in
the direction of the coffee shop in Titan Towers. Reece made her way in to the
coffee shop and ordered the strongest coffee on the menu, the waitress smiled
at her almost laughing, Reece knew how she must look with twelve flight hours
and a two hour delay before she started weighing on her. To her it was bedtime
to the rest of the Connecticut it was middle of the day.
She took her coffee and slipped in to
a booth grabbing a paper on her way. While was waiting she would at least do
something to occupy her mind or face the embarrassment of falling asleep on the
wipe clean top of the table.
“Hey there” the female voice was friendly and wide-awake, it almost made Reece
groan.
“Hi” she said looking up.
Nicoya smiled at her a friendly smile
“Need a top up?” she offered Reece shrugged.
“I’m kinda surviving on the aroma
right now.” Nicoya laughed and slipped into the seat opposite
“I’m Nicoya.”
Reece smiled “Reece Edwards” Nicoya
smiled as they shook hands.
“You new here?”
Reece nodded slowly “Something like
that."
Chapter 7
Nicoya wandered through Titan Towers
and felt the stares of the people in the office. Daddy had made her go to
another boring meeting and now she was stuck going into a marketing media for
Shane's New Media department. Before she was forced to go through the internet
portion of her job, she was in need of a caffine fix. She headed toward the
cafeteria and avoided everyone.
"Look...it's the other Ice
Princess." someone whispered to a co-worker as she walked past a cube.
"Wonder where the rest of the royalty is." Nicoya tried not to feel
hurt. These people didn't know her. They were judging her by her namesake, not
for Nicoya herself. She was relieved when she finally walked into the
cafeteria. She glanced around the room and saw a new face and walked over.
After a friendly introduction, Nicoya
slid into the chair opposite of the woman.
"So what do you do here?"
Nicoya asked fiddling with the top of her Mt. Dew can. Reece looked up at her
with a smiled.
"Shane McMahon has hired me as
the new HR person." Reece's smile faded. "But I'm not at all sure
why. Do you know anything about him?" Nicoya laughed, making Reece frown.
"I don't take you're laughing as a good thing."
"Shane McMahon." Nicoya took
a drink of her pop. "Shane O'Mac is my older brother." Reece's mouth
dropped open and her eyes widned.
"I didn't know there was another
McMahon child." Reece looked at Nicoya and blushed. Nicoya reached over
and patted her hand.
"Don't worry about it. I'm the
black sheep of the family." Nicoya laughed. "I'm the VP of
Marketing...for now, so you'll get to work with myself and my staff once in a
while. Usually during new hires. I seem to go through staff awfully
quick." Nicoya looked up at the ceiling for a moment, wondering why that
was.
"Anyway...they call me the
younger Ice Princess, Princess Bitch, Your Highness...and the list goes
on." Reece laughed.
"I know they call Stephanie those
also." Reece smiled. "And the Billion Dollar Princess." Nicoya
smiled.
"I'm also the Billion Dollar
Princess...sometimes the Billion Dollar Baby. Depends on who you're talking to
and whether or not they like me." Nicoya sat back in her chair and sighed.
"You'll get to work directly with the wrestlers. That'll be fun."
"Yeah, I guess." Reece
grinned, thinking about meeting Matt Hardy finally. "So...tell me. What
are they like?"
"The guys? Pricks mostly. There
are a few I can handle, a few I can't stand." Nicoya leaned forward toward
Reece. "And a a few that I'd like to try and handle." Reece laughed
and took a sip of her coffee which was starting to get cold. "Personally,
I've dated Jeff Hardy and that's it. We broke up a few months back. Our
schedules didn't work well together."
"So...you dated the elusive Jeff
Hardy." Reece cocked her head to the side and took in the woman across
from her. "I want details." Nicoya grinned. "What was it
like?"
"A whirlwind. Swept me off my
feet. He's so....." Nicoya thought for a moment.
"Extreme?" Both girls
laughed and Nicoya nodded. "He strikes me as being that way off camera.
Are you still friends?"
"Best of friends. Come to think
of it...I'm seeing him when I get back to New York. He's staying at my
apartment instead of going to get a hotel for the show tonight. You should
come."
"Actually, Shane is taking me.
We're heading to New York so I can get settled in after his meeting. So maybe
I'll see you there."
"Oh shit! The meeting!"
Nicoya looked at her watch, silently cussing herself. "I'm late. I was
suppose to be in there. It was nice meeting you and I hope to see you
tonight!" She jumped up and was gone in a flash. Reece sat back in her
chair and watched the woman leave.
"She's not as bad as I thought a
McMahon would be." She thought to herself. "I wonder why Shane never
mentioned her before." Pushing the thought aside, she went back to
drinking her coffee and wondering what this new job had in store for her.
Chapter 8
Reece arrived at WWF New York for her
meeting with Shane twenty minutes early. Shane had dropped her at her hotel as
soon as they got to there so she could sleep and stop looking like a complete
zombie and that is exactly what she had done, till eight am that morning. She
was looking forward to the Raw show that night seeing the business she’d been
corralled into but she was also nervous a feeling she had to burry quickly.
That was easier than she thought as she heard the cheers from the interior of
the building. She made her way inside fighting through the throng of hyper
teenagers and to her surprise a few hyper women her own age. She finally found
her way to the bar and spoke with the barman, he nodded at her statement and
pointed up stairs she nodded following his lead no able to hear his words over
the yelps screams and jovial cries. Making her way to the second floor, she was
relieved to find in voice of excited teens and instead sedate with the large
screen TVs the only hint at the madness down stairs. She spoke quietly to the
waitress that approached her she knew straight away to state her business
before she was unceremoniously kicked out. She had been in that situation
before back home and Shane had promptly had the young part time barmaid fired.
Reece knew Shane had a mean streak but to her he was always nice even when he
was trying to be mean.
The waitress swallowed her prior harshness and escorted Reece to her table.
Reece quickly ordered a cold soda and a took her seat, she was glad she was in
the habit of carrying a note book a kick back to her student days, you never
knew when an idea would hit after all.
She had been waiting quietly, jotting down ideas and sipping at her soda for a
half hour when the screams rose above the chatter she had tuned out, whatever
was going on down there was either just starting or finishing to the crowds
annoyance. She shrugged and went back to her scribbling hardly looking up at
the sound of boots on the staircase. She checked her watch,
Shane was bound to have some excuse,
“A meeting” or “Traffic” or the priceless “You know what my father is like”
Reece smiled to herself taking bets in her own mind that he would use the third
excuse with the same screwed up face he always did. When the boots clumped up
the last step she waited still writing Shane usually greeted her from half way
across the room. She glanced up to see what was stopping him for yelling his
usual greeting.
Her eyes settled on the tall dark and well magnificently handsome man. Reece
knew immediately who he was, after all she couldn’t help but notice the faces
of the wrestlers when she watched the show tapings, listening to the crowds
cheer for their favorite star and Matt Hardy had a lot of fans so she’d
noticed. She realized she was staring and that he had noticed, she smiled
politely and then dropped her eyes back to her pages, after all he had to be
used to staring by now.
She heard more boots thwacking as they jogged up the steps and two heavily
southern accents chatter to each other, Reece kept her eyes down. She mulled
over in her mind how attractive Matt was, she had seen his picture heard tales
of him and now she had seen him face to face, well more precisely across a room
and he was every bit the debonair character she thought he would be. She
listened as the two men moved to a table and ordered drinks, they chatted about
the fans they had just met and the unusual places they had been asked to
autograph. Reece swallowed a laugh and took a sip of her drink.
Matt noticed the brunette sitting at the table all alone as soon as he reached
the top of the stairs, her head was bent as she wrote intently her hair falling
about her face as she worked, he could see traces of red as the lights played
on each hair. He was mid thought when she looked up straight at him, she was
surprised at first, then she studied him intently but quickly before smiling
and returning her eyes to the pages she was delicately scribbling on. Jeff
caught up to Matt thumped him in the shoulder and finally Matt moved following
the waitress.
After ordering they started on their post signing conversation, but Matt
couldn’t help but continually glance over at the young woman all alone sipping
her coke. Jeff shook his head chuckling lowering his tone “Stop drooling” Matt
glanced at him guiltily as the waitress placed their drinks in front of them.
More thumping Reece was beginning to wonder if Shane even remembered calling
her at one am to arrange this. “What can I say” Reece looked up, there he was
the master of making an understated entrance, she laughed at the thought in her
head of his theme tune playing as he walked to the table. “Hey guys” Shane
greeted the Hardy Boys with a wave, before turning his attention back to Reece
“You know my father!” Shane finished smiling at Reece and flopping into the
seat opposite her she smirked “Been waiting long?” Reece smiled
“Enough to write a sequel to War and
Peace.” Shane chuckled and ordered his drink.
Matt and Jeff ate their lunch in hushed conversation, both occasionally
checking out the McMahon table. They couldn’t hear the conversation but from
the facial expressions Matt could tell the brunette was suspicious of
something. Matt’s study was interrupted when Shane’s phone rang and the girl
turned her attention from Shane. She glanced over at Matt and caught him
staring, he guiltily lowered his eyes making her smile slightly, before Shane
regained her attention and then they both stood. Matt watched through hooded
eyes as Shane escorted her down stairs and out of his life.
Sitting in his locker room Matt still hadn’t shaken the image of the woman, her
blue eyes had read him instantly to the point of making him nervous, as nervous
as some fans were of him.
“Matt” Amy repeated, “Aren’t you
listening?”
Matt looked up “Sorry” he replied
standing and pulling on his shirt
“What were you saying?” Amy huffed as
she adjusted the ties on her combats
“I said there is some of the office at
the show tonight. Heard talk of some hiring and firing.” Matt groaned the WWF
went through writers like a video store through videos, followed the same principal
too. A new hot writer arrived checked out by the McMahon family wrote their
heart out for so long and then crashed and burned and were returned to writer
asylum to hack out a career writing freelance. Matt shrugged as Amy turned
“Wonder who’s planning the overhaul this time.”
William was nervous, he glanced at his set up, the office of the WWF
commissioner, a step up from the varying hot dog stands, buggies and toilets
the previous commissioner used but the again William was a far cry from being
Mick Foley by any means. He had settled in to his role as commissioner easily,
it seemed the perfect position for him to fill, all business suits and plush
surroundings. He chuckled it was in fact a lot different from the streets of
Manchester he had been used to in his youth.
Today was however very different, Raw
was the same as always making a few matches selling the bad guys as bad guys
and putting the face over as the biggest saviour mankind had ever seen with but
today there was an added pressure.
“Almost time for your promo” the floor
manager informed him, William nodded and wiped his sweaty palms on the back of
his trousers before taking up his position.
Reece walked through the corridors past the locker rooms, she wasn’t looking
forward to this, a meeting with Vince Shane and Stephanie, she knew Nicoya
would be there sitting in the back looking bored. She sighed why was it she
felt like the bad penny that was about to turn up. It was as she worked through
the mire of problems today was posing she smacked straight in to a broad chest.
She recognised Mark, better known as the Undertaker. “Sorry” she said Mark
nodded
“You lost?” she shook her head
“Avoiding the death march”
Mark chuckled “You must be Shane’s new
protégé”
Reece rolled her eyes, “Yeah right.”
She mocked “Cos I want to be able to bounce about like an idiot in the ring. I
think I’ll pass.”
Mark nodded “Office work for you then”
“Whoopee to that too” Reece mocked Mark shook his head
“You’re a strange one. If you don’t
want to wrestle and you’re not in it for the nine to five
then what are you doing here?” Reece fixed him with a sweet gaze.
“Be damned if I know.” She replied
“Reece!” She looked past Mark to see
Nicoya waving to her “And I thought standing in front of you would be a good
hiding place!” Mark chuckled as she wandered off towards Nicoya.
“How do you fancy being completely childish?” Nicoya asked a mischievous look
on her face
“Lead the way and I will deny all
knowledge and plead ignorance!” Reece followed Nicoya’s lead towards some of
the locker rooms.
Chapter 9
Mackenzie grumbled under her breath as
she flashed her VIP pass at the security guard standing at the door. He
hurriedly moved out of her way, holding the door open for her. She hated this.
She was carrying a briefcase full of contracts, and she’d have to track down
all these wrestlers tonight to get them to sign so their latest “don’t try this
at home” commercial could be aired. Another job Nicoya was too busy to handle
herself.
Mackenzie thought that was bullshit.
She knew most McMahons thought they were too good to do much socialization with
the wrestlers who made them their money. So here she was, three hours past the
time she should have gotten off work, at Madison Square Garden. And the fact
that all the McMahon’s, even Nicoya, were present for the show only mad her
madder. If they were already in the building, why the hell couldn’t they do
their own paperwork?
“Hey there Mac,” she turned at the
sound of the nickname she most hated, then relaxed and smiled.
“What’s up, Matt? Not leaping off any
ladders tonight are you?” he fell into step beside her, taking her briefcase
from her and swinging it.
“Nope, I’m leaving that to Jeff.
What’s in here? Top secret documents for the opposition?”
Mackenzie laughed. “What opposition? No, just some commercial contracts that
need to be signed. Speaking of which,” she took the case back from him and
popped it open on top of a crate. “You have to sign one. Otherwise, no money
for you when the commercial gets on the air.”
Matt laughed and obliged, taking the pen she offered and quickly scribbling his
name on the bottom of his contract. Mackenzie watched him closely, sensing
something different about him.“So, you gonna spill or am I gonna have to beat
it out of you?”
“Spill what?” he shot her what he hoped was an innocent look.
“You have that deer in the headlights
look about you. Meaning you either got a big ass raise, which I would know
about, or you met a woman.”
“No to both,” he said, smiling a little. It was true. He hadn’t actually met
the woman yet. He didn’t like the speculative way Mackenzie was looking at him.
“Guess who was asking about you earlier,” he said, hoping to change the
subject.
“I shudder to think,” Mackenzie said,
shoving the papers back into the briefcase. One down, 14 more to go.
“I’m gonna tell you anyway. Taker,” he
said, then watched her. She gave no reaction, no hint that the name meant
anything to her. “Come on, he was talking about you all morning. What did you
do, screw him on your desk?”
Mackenzie snorted and picked up her
briefcase. “Nope. Afraid I’m reserving that honor for you, my sweet.” She
pinched his cheek, which she knew he absolutely hated.
“Aww, you’re just sayin’ that,” he
said, ducking his head. Mackenzie laughed. This was an old joke between them.
Ever since she’d come to work as the office manager, she’d seen more of him
than any other wrestler. He and his brother Jeff were constantly in and out,
signing up for commercials, magazine spreads, and charity appearances. They’d
hit it off, mostly because they were almost the same age, and also because of
their similar backgrounds.
He was cute but definitely not her
type, but she loved to tease him. He’d gotten used to it, and now Jeff would do
his best to escape any room Matt and Mackenzie were in together.
“Well…gotta keep you sweet on me,” she
laughed. “Now, I’m off to find you’re multi-colored brother. Any clues?”
“Try the gym. He’s in there with Amy.
I’ll catch you later on,” he tipped her a wink and went in the opposite
direction.
Mackenzie’s smile faded as soon as he
was gone. So Mark had been asking Matt about her. Hell…why couldn’t the man
just accept a quickie and move on without trying to pry information out of her
friends? Matt wouldn’t tell him much. Mackenzie had hardly told Matt anything
about her. She sighed and headed down the hall. Mackenzie had very few friends
here, Matt probably ranking at the top of the short list. She tried to keep
away from the wrestlers as much as possible. Now she had to worry about Mark
suddenly taking an interest in her private life.
It didn’t matter much though. She
pushed the thoughts out of her head and kept walking, in a hurry to get the
contracts signed so she could go home. Almost an hour later, she was done. It
had taken her the most time to find Paul, who was in the midst of a war with
his bitch of a wife Stephanie.
She’d broken in, received some very
heated looks from the Princess, and gotten out, tossing Steph a sneer on her
way out. If Mackenzie thought Nicoya was spoiled, Stephanie was an absolute
monster. Mackenzie made sure she had all her paperwork, then headed toward the
exit.
From above, she could hear the pyros,
music, and screaming that signified the beginning of the show. She had no
interest in watching it. It was 9 now, she had to be at the office at 7 in the
morning. That barely gave her time to get home and sleep for a few hours before
fighting traffic. She had just turned the final corner before the VIP entrance
when she was grabbed from behind and pulled backward into a utility closet.
Mackenzie kicked her feet against Mark’s legs, knowing without having to look
that was who had snatched her.
“Calm down. You’re hard to keep track
of,” he rumbled against her ear. She relaxed a little, and he released his hold,
dropping her to her feet.
She spun on him. “What the hell do you
think you’re doing?” She spat out. Mackenzie bent down and picked her briefcase
up from where she’d dropped it.
“Just tryin’ to get your attention. I
got the feelin’ you were ignoring me tonight,” He said, half smiling. It was
true, every time Mackenzie had seen him she’d made it a point to act like he
wasn’t there.
“Maybe I was,” she said heatedly. “Why
didn’t you take that as a hint?”
“Hint, huh? Maybe you should have
picked some other guy to screw on your desk. Cuz I found something I like.” He
reached out and brushed a strand of her long hair back. Mackenzie pulled away,
frowning when he chuckled.
“Don’t worry. I’m not goin’ to try
anything just now,” he paused and adjusted his bandana. He was wearing his
wrestling gear, had been getting ready for his match when he’d seen Mackenzie
on her way toward the exit. He’d had her, and he’d been ready to just write
that off as a new experience until he’d asked around about her.
Mackenzie was something of a mystery,
even to people that she was supposedly close to. Matt hardly knew anything
about her, yet he didn’t hesitate to call her his best friend. Most of the
other guys knew her by name or description, with few exceptions. Kurt had said
he was friendly with her, and Al Snow seemed to love her to death. But neither
of them had known any more than Matt. He stared down into her eyes, that half
smile still playing on his lips. He was intrigued, and he wasn’t going to stop
until his curiosity was satisfied. “You’re going to be a challenge aren’t you?”
Mackenzie rolled her eyes. “Consider me Mt. Everest, and you can be a guy with
one arm and one leg trying to climb to the top.” She put her hand on the
doorknob and cracked it open. Mark reached out and grabbed her arm, pulling her
closer to him.
“Good. I’m glad you think that way,”
he bent his head down and kissed her…on the cheek. He lifted his head and
stared into her eyes again. “I never could pass up a challenge.” With that, he
let her go and left the room. Mackenzie stared at the open door for a few
seconds, seething.
Grumbling under her breath, she called
him a few names as she finally managed to make it out to her car. If he wanted
a challenge, he’d found one. Only she was going to be the first challenge Mark
wouldn’t conquer. She wasn’t going to melt at his feet just because he zeroed
in on her with those deep green eyes, or that Texan accent rolled over her. She
shook off the thoughts and slipped into her car. Better to just ignore him and
hope he’d get bored and go away. She had more important things to worry about
than a psycho like him.
Chapter 10
Reece was bewildered as Nicoya slowly
opened the door to one of the locker rooms; she motioned for Reece to follow
silently. Reece moved in watching the door as Nicoya slipped over the room
biting back a laugh at the deep throaty voice coming from the shower singing a
song Reece tried to make out, Nicoya waved Reece over and handed her a water
bottle “Empty this” she whispered Reece took the bottle and emptied it in a
sink, on the far wall.
The song continued as Nicoya took back
the water bottle and filled it with the contents of another bottle. Reece’s
eyes lit up when she realized what Nicoya was up to. The singing stopped and
the two girls hurried out of the room leaving in as they found it.
Paul couldn’t help but smile, after all he had an out with Stephanie, she had
bought his story about his ex Joanie being bitter enough to want to hurt their
relationship. Nicoya backed up his story that he may have seen her at the bar.
Stephanie had accepted the apology and apparently forgiven Paul turning back in
to the slushy in love teen she permanently acted like. Paul grabbed the water
bottle from his bag, and twisted off the top, life was definitely sweet.
“Yuck!” he blurred out the mouthful of
liquid he hand just swigged and coughed and spluttered as he rushed to the sink
to rise the sickly thick taste of baby oil out of his mouth.
Nicoya and Reece bit back their childish giggles before pulling themselves
together until they had walked far enough away from his locker room, for them
to howl with laughter.
“Man that was fun!” Nicoya laughed
Reece shook her head “Your completely nuts!” Nicoya nodded “And don’t you just
love it!” Nicoya checked her watch, “Damn I gotta go to the meeting, you
coming?”
Reece shook her head “Nah not yet, Shane will get when he’s ready.”
Nicoya nodded “Not anxious to meet
Vince huh”
“There’s a lot of things I’m not looking forward to tonight.”
Nicoya eyed her warily “Got a skeleton
in your closet?”
Reece smiled “You’ll have to wait and
see.” Nicoya chuckled and waved as she headed off “I like surprises” she mewed
before turning the corner and leaving Reece completely alone.
“I don’t” Reece muttered.
Chapter 11
Nicoya left Reece in the hallway and
headed down to Vince's office for a quick meeting. When he was finished
praising Shane for finding new writer, she headed back into the arena. She
heard her father's music and could see Stephanie and Shane at the gurilla
positon waiting to head into the ring for God knows what. Nicoya was glad that
she didn't deal with the on-screen crap.
She was rounding the corner toward her
makeshift office when Paul grabbed her arm.
"Come with me." He pulled
her into his lockerroom and shut the door. "Where's your ex?"
"Jeff?" Nicoya sank onto the
black leather couch. "Probably with Matt and Amy. I haven't seen him yet.
Why?" Paul moved next to her and
kissed her softly. "Kissing me doesnt' have anything to do with
Jeff."
"The little shit put baby oil in
my water." Paul sat back and motioned toward the empty water bottle on the
counter. Nicoya tried not to smile. "He's going to get it."
"Oh leave Jeffy alone."
Nicoya smiled and ran her fingernails across his bare chest and down his
stomach. She played with string of his warm up pants. "Maybe Jeffy didn't
do anything." She glanced at the TV to see that Vince and Stephanie's
segment was almost ending. Paul grabbed her hand and lowered it into his pants.
She stroked his cock with her hand for a moment. "Someone is a little
hard."
"Just for you baby." he
whispered into her ear. "Why don't we play a little?" He nudged her
cheek, making her turn her face toward his so he could kiss her.
"You got yours today and that's
all you're getting." Nicoya pulled her hand out, causing the elastic band
of his warm up pants to snap against his stomach. "Why don't you go make
nice with my sister."
"We already made up." he
watched as she got off the couch and headed toward the door. "Nic, don't leave
me this way!"
"Huntsie....no guy I'm aware of
has ever died of blue balls." She walked out the door and stopped just in
time to be picked up by Glen in a bear hug. He was already in his Kane gear.
She felt the breath escape her body as he hugged her. "Easy boy..."
he set her down and she tried to catch her breath.
"When are the commercials going
to start?" he asked. Nicoya followed him toward stage where he had to get
ready for his match with Mark against the Dudley Boys.
"Glen...you just signed the
paperwork. Mackenzie is going to handle everything from here on out." Out
of the corner of her eye, she saw Mark walking toward them. "Why don't you
come see me in the office next week and we'll talk."
"And what do you have in
mind?" he asked. She could tell her smiling beneath the mask.
"Anything of interest?"
"Yeah, getting you scheduled for
a commercial." she smiled and patted his arm. "Have a good match big
guy." She turned to leave as Mark walked up. "Mark." He stopped
and looked at her with an icy glare. "Nice to see your friendly face
again." She brushed past him and walked toward her office to grab her
things and leave.
"Bitch." Mark mumbled under
his breath. Mark and Glen both watched her walk away. "I think she is
actually worse than Stephanie." Glen looked after her.
"She's not that bad." Glen
headed toward the ramp and waited before a ref motioned for him to go.
"Name one person who likes
her." Mark followed Glen. Glen said nothing as he was told to go to the
ring.
Chapter 12
Time was getting on, Matt couldn’t
believe Jeff wasn’t ready yet and Amy was in Make up. Vince had some big
announcement to make and some of the other guys were whispering in corners
about who’s contract wasn’t being renewed, Matt hoped they were worrying over nothing.
If there were big news surely Mackenzie would have given him a hint. Matt was
still mulling over this when he opened the door of his locker room and headed
out in to the corridor to walk about and get his blood pumping. He turned left
in time to see long brown hair and a slender body disappearing round the
corner, he felt a dizzy sensation as his mind jumped to conclusions. He hurried
along the corridor wanting to prove his active imagination wrong, it couldn’t
be the girl from lunch, he was almost positive.
Reece rounded the corner and saw the filming going on, in the thick of it was
not where she wanted to be, she remembered the docking bay was back round the
corner so off she went, at least she could hide there inconspicuously until
Shane tracked her down and still act like she was doing something. She walked
back the way she had came and turned left, making her way to the docking bay,
at least that’s what she thought, she was faced with more doors she knew she
had never seen before. Reece sighed, American arenas had to be so much bigger
than English one’s she was used to scurrying around.
“Time for the cookie crumbs” she
muttered to herself retracing her steps to the corner where she could watch the
promo being cut.
Matt had lost her, whoever she was, probably staff from the arena just checking
around. Matt rested against the wall watching the promo being cut, Tajeri and
Regal were in full swing, pity new man Shawn Stasiack was having trouble with
his lines. This was the second run at it Matt smirked as Shawn miscued his
entrance resulting in Regal rapping his fingers on the desk and muttering
British swear words at Shawn. Matt was still shaking his head trying not to
laugh out loud when he caught a glimpse of legs, female legs, dressed in delicately
patterned black trousers he let his eyes move up the body, to a tailored black
jacket with just a glimpse of blue beneath it and then the face. Matt swallowed
nervously. He watched her as she watched the promo, standing silently until her
head dipped sideways slightly; she turned slightly and smiled at him. Matt
smiled back, surprised as she moved back to stand next to him.
“Hi” she whispered her voice was a
sweet as he imagined
“Hi” he murmured back. “Enjoy your
lunch?” she asked smirking slightly Matt chuckled “We’re always well taken care
of there. I’m Matt, Matt Hardy” Reece shook his hand he had a firm but tender
grip
“I know who you are.” Her voice was
soft as she spoke, “I’m Reece Edwards.” Matt nodded slowly “Glad to know you.”
Regal was starting to get agitated, he wanted this promo done, he had things to
do and Stasiack was being an idiot, not getting his entrance of line right
“Stupid bugger” Regal muttered. Finally Stasiack walked in at the right moment
and actually strangled the line out. Regal fell in to his mocking commish role
and waved the boy off indignantly. The director called quits and Regal was
done. He exchanged a few words with Tajeri before looking up and seeing Shane
approaching with Vince. Regal smiled straightening his suit and smiling his
proudest smile. “Vince, Shane” he greeted shaking hands with both men.
Matt couldn’t believe how easy this was, he was talking to her like he’d known
her forever. She put him at ease mostly; he admitted to himself there was a
small knot in his stomach but not enough to make him tongue tied or nervous.
“So Shane dragged you to see the
show?”
“Not quite.” She replied still smiling
at him
“Oh gonna make me guess?”
“Might be fun.”
Matt chuckled “Okay,”
“Looks like she’s already making friends” Vince chuckled nodding in Reece and
Matt’s direction, Regal turned his eyes almost popping out of his head.
“Excuse me would you.” He stormed over
to the couple who were laughing and
joking. Matt touched Reece’s arm
“You mean you wouldn’t!” he laughed as
she laughed at his comments. Reece’s smile became sedated Matt followed her
gaze to the seething Regal who stood beside him. Regal took Matt’s hand and
removed it from Reece’s arm.
“I would appreciate it if you kept
your hands to yourself!” Regal spat Matt stared at him as Reece sighed.
“Stop it” she said quietly.
“And I would like it if you sodded off!” Reece’s eyes were hot Matt could see
it already
“Stop it” she repeated more forceful
Regal ignored her.
“Go on sod off and don’t you dare come
near her again.” Matt looked at Regal
stunned for a moment before looking at Reece.
“I should go”
“Yes you should!” Regal hissed, Matt nodded at Reece before stepping away, he
was only a few steps away when he felt a warm touch, he turned and smiled at
her
“I’m sorry about this.”
Matt shook his head “No problem.” She
smiled at him before turning and glaring at Regal who stood taping his foot
like an irate headmaster.
Vince and Shane were watching highly
amused at the way Reece turned on Regal. “What the hell was that!” she hissed
staring at the suited commissioner.
“Don’t use that tone with me young
lady!” Reece rolled her eyes
“And don’t use that accent with me!”
She spat back her arms folded indignantly across her chest. Vince and Shane
weren’t the only one’s watching on, Tajeri and Stasiack as well as the
production crew were enjoying the show.
“I do not think it is appropriate for
you to be seen talking to someone like that!” Regal explained gesturing to the
vacant space beside them where Matt had been. “It doesn’t look good” Regal
muttered glancing over his shoulder and nodding grovelling to Vince “You’re a
lady Reece you should act like one!”
Reece couldn’t help but laugh at his
words “Lady? Ha! I’m a working class Mackem! And in case you
forgot you’re a working class Manc so
stop trying to grow a title!” Regal glared at her
“Don’t be so stupid girl! Do you know
who that is over there!”
Reece held his gaze “Yes I do. But I
also know I’m not dumb enough to try and grow a
title like you to look good. If Vince McMahon doesn’t like me then tough! I’m
not acting like a toffee nosed snob just to please you!”
Regal rolled his eyes “Behave Reece
for crying out loud don’t embarrass me!”
Reece smirked “Embarrass you? Believe
me when I want to embarrass you you’ll know
about it!”
Shane coughed loudly enough for Reece and William to hear. The scene was
entertaining but the last thing Shane needed was Vince to get ideas in his head
to use Reece in any other position than HR manager. Reece swallowed her anger
and moved past Regal, leaving him to seethe quietly while putting on a show for
Vince.
“Dad” Shane began “I’d like you to
meet Reece Edwards”
Vince looked Reece up and down and
smiled “I’ve heard a lot about you Reece”
Vince rumbled shaking her hand Reece
smiled her eyes dancing as she glanced
at Shane
“Really, well you know Shane only
tells the bad stories about me. Come to think of it I don’t think he knows any
good one’s.” Shane chuckled as Vince pulled Reece with him as they walked Regal
falling in step behind them.
“Let’s talk business!” Vince said
while chuckling.
Chapter 13
Mackenzie crawled into bed a little
after midnight, pulling the blanket up to her chin. She wanted to call in to
work the next day, just stay in bed and do nothing, but she couldn’t. She had
to be at work, it helped her keep her anger in focus.
Her eyes had just drifted shut when
the phone by the bed rang. Mumbling, she reached for it. There were only about
6 people who had her number, and they all knew better than to call her this
late at night.
“Yeah?” she didn’t even try to sound
polite.
There was a low chuckle on the line.
“Just wanted to call and tell you good night. You didn’t stick around long
enough for me to do it properly.” Mackenzie sat up. “Mark? How the hell did you
get this number?”
“Mutual friend. I told you, I love a
challenge,” he started laughing, and Mackenzie slammed the phone down. Great.
She was going to have to get her number changed.
She sighed and settled back in her
bed. She’d have to find a way to deal with Mark. It had been a bad judgement
call, sleeping with him, but it was done. And now she was going to pay for it.
Mackenzie smiled a little. Maybe she should just go to him and tell him some
story about her life, boring him into leaving her alone.
She had just started drifting off for
the second time when the phone rang again. Cursing, she reached over and
flipped the ringer to the off position, silencing the annoying ring. She wasn’t
in the mood to play at whatever game he was instigating. Hopefully his schedule
for the next few weeks would take him far, far away. She could only dream.
Mackenzie finally fell asleep, but it
didn’t last long. There was a loud banging noise, which at first she thought
was somehow part of a dream she was having about her mother. As the pounding
continued, she realized it was someone trying to break her door down. “What the
fuck…” she was still cursing under her breath as she threw the blankets off her
and grabbed her robe. She stumbled through her apartment, toward the door.
“Hold your damn water!” She yelled, squinting her eyes as she flipped the light
switch in the living room.
The banging stopped, and Mackenzie
caught herself before opening the door. If it was Mark, she was going to kill
him. Did the man not know how to take a hint?
“C’mon Mac, sometime tonight,” came a
voice through the doorway. She sighed in a mix of relief and annoyance at the
familiar southern accent.
“Christ, Matt, what the hell are you
doing here this late?” She said, throwing back the locks and pulling the door
open. He gave her a lopsided smile and came inside, settling on the couch while
Mackenzie closed the door.
“Would you believe its cuz I hardly
get to see you?” He said, stretching his legs out and propping his feet on her
coffee table. Mackenzie almost laughed. She went to stand beside him, and
knocked his feet down from the table. Grinning sheepishly, Matt readjusted
himself so he was reclining on the couch with his feet on the floor.
“No, I wouldn’t believe it. Don’t you
have a hotel room?” she sank into her leather recliner, wincing at how cold it
was through her robe and pajamas.
“I do have a hotel room. And Jeff has
a hotel room. And Jeff has the key to the hotel room. And I can’t find him anywhere.
Do you see my problem?”
“What, so you’ve been wandering the city for…” she glanced at the VCR clock.
“Three hours? Why didn’t you just go to the desk and get another key?”
Matt sighed heavily. “I don’t know.
Didn’t think about it I guess. I didn’t much feel like being by myself.”
Mackenzie studied him thoughtfully.
Now that she was wide-awake, she could see his missing brother wasn’t all that
was bothering him. “So what gives? Tell me, or I’ll torture it out of you. And
believe me, I’m in the mood to do it.”
“Noth…” he saw the look she gave him,
then smiled a little. “Ok, Ok. Remember earlier you asked me if I’d met a
girl?”
“No,” Mackenzie said, trying to think back. “Wait. Yeah. Deer in headlights. I
remember. Go on.”
“Well, I actually got to meet her. Kinda on accident I guess. And we were
talking and seemed to be hitting it off when…you won’t believe this…William
comes over and tells me to get lost.”
“William. Regal?” Mackenzie asked.
“What was he doing butting in on you?”
“I assume it’s because she was there for him, if you catch my meaning,” Matt
said, sighing again.
“I catch it, I catch it. So if she was
there for Willie, why was she talking you up?” As far as Mackenzie knew, Regal
didn’t have a girlfriend. He was one of the people she avoided, as he tended to
be a little too close to the McMahon family. And if some girl was snooping
around, asking Matt questions…Mackenzie made herself slow down. Matt hadn’t
said what they’d talked about, he’d just said they’d met.
“Hell if I know. Look, I’m tired, and
if it’s Ok with you, I’d like to crash on your couch.”
“Feel free,” Mackenzie said, waving it off. She stood and went to the bedroom,
returning with a pillow and blanket for him. “One question before you pass out.
Did you give Mark my phone number?”
“No, should I have? He asked for it. I
told him he should take it up with you. I know how you are about being all
private,” he said with a laugh. “Why, he bugging you?”
It was on the tip of her tongue to say yes, but Mackenzie didn’t want to
involve Matt in Mark’s little diversion. “No…I was just wondering. I should get
to bed.”
“Can you wake me up when you get up? I’ll catch a ride with you and get one of
the guys to take me to the hotel later.”
“Sure thing. ‘Night, Mattie,” she said, patting his head. He laughed, but
Mackenzie was already leaving the room when he started making a smart comment.
She got up when the alarm went off at
seven, feeling like she’d been hit by a ton of bricks. The first thing she
wanted was a cup of coffee. The second was to strangle the people who’d kept
her up half the night. Mackenzie wandered into the living room after showering
and getting dressed, then smiled down at Matt. He was still out cold. She went
in the kitchen and made a pot of coffee, making sure to be especially noisy. By
the time it was brewing, Matt was standing in the kitchen doorway, bleary eyed
and rumpled looking.
“Mornin’,” his voice was rough with
sleep, making his accent even more pronounced. Mackenzie thumped a cup of hot
coffee on the table and he went toward it like steel fillings to a magnet.
After they’d both had their caffeine injection, and he’d gotten a quick shower,
she drove them down to her office where he could find his way to his hotel.
“Stop in the coffee shop with me? I’ll
buy you a donut,” he offered. Mackenzie glanced at her watch, then nodded. She
still had 20 minutes to kill before having to look at the royal family. She
went in the doorway of the coffee shop but Matt stopped her and pulled her
back. “Hold up. There’s Reece. That’s the girl I was telling you about,” he
nodding in the
direction of one of the booths in the corner. A young girl was sitting by
herself, sipping from a white mug and looking at a newspaper.
“Kinda young for Willie, don’t ya
think?” Mackenzie said, feeling the familiar suspicions forming in her mind.
For once, she’d like to just be able to look at a person and not think that
they were around to try to figure out who she was.
“I guess it’s what Willie thinks that
counts,” Matt said, sighing.
“Only one way to find out,” Mackenzie
told him, taking a step toward the booth.
“Wait. What are you gonna do?” He
stared hard at her, his dark eyes pleading. “Don’t embarrass me more than I
already am Mac. Please.”
“Would I embarrass you?” She asked,
incredulous.
“In a heartbeat,” Matt said, trying
not to laugh.
“Well, I’ll do my best to do ya proud
then. Gonna stay and watch?”
“Hell no. I’m going upstairs to find a ride. I’ll see you later,” and with
that, he gave the girl in the corner one last look before turning and
disappearing into the elevator alcove. Mackenzie shook her head. She wondered
how such a daredevil in the ring could be such a chicken when it came to women.
She turned her attention back to
Reece, making her way across the coffee shop. Mackenzie stopped right next to
her table, looking down at the younger girl. She looked up and gave her a
puzzled smile.
“Are you Reece?” Mackenzie asked, not
able to help sounding like she was on the offensive. It came naturally
sometimes.
“Yeah. Can I help you?”
“Maybe. You can tell me why my friend
was getting an ‘available’ vibe from you then got told off by your boyfriend.”
“I’m afraid I don’t know what you
mean…” Reece frowned a little, thinking about it.
“Let me refresh you’re memory. Last
night, promo shoot. You, Matt, Willie. Now, guess which one is my friend.”
Reece’s face lit up remembering. “Oh, Matt…the guy with the dark hair…”
“That’s would be him,” Mackenzie told her.
“Oh, well…” Reece laughed. “William’s
not my boyfriend. He’s my uncle. I’m afraid there’s been a bit of a
misunderstanding…”
“Great, good. Glad we cleared that up. Can I make a suggestion? Go track down
Matt today and explain it to him. Cuz if he wakes me up at 2 in the morning
again, somebody’s going to regret it,” with that, Mackenzie stormed off,
leaving Reece to look after her in amusement. Mackenzie paused in the doorway,
turning back to look at her. “And when you find him today…tell him he owes me a
damn donut.”
Mackenzie walked into her office, slamming the door behind her. She groaned out
loud when she caught sight of the flowers sitting on her desk. A dozen red
roses in a black vase. She snatched the card off, already knowing who they were
from. There was no message inside, just a question mark. Oh, he was a regular
laugh riot.
She snatched up her phone and dialed
Mark’s cell number. He answered on the first ring. “I take it you got my little
present?”
“Didn’t anybody ever tell you roses are out? They’re going to look really
special in my garbage can, asshole.” She slammed down the phone, cutting him
off in mid chuckle. She picked them up to pitch them, then thought better of
it. She ripped the card to shreds, then rode up the elevator to the writer’s
quarters. Although Paul was a wrestler he spent a lot of time with the writers,
working on angles. Maybe some roses from an unknown source would stir up a
little controversy for him. She set them right in the middle of his desk,
making sure they would be the first thing that would be visible when Paul and
Stephanie came in that morning. Smiling to herself, she made her way back to
her office, almost in the mood to deal with whatever the McMahons threw her
way.
Chapter 14
Sighing, Nicoya unlocked her apartment
door and kicked off her shoes. She could tell Jeff had already been there from
the bags being scattered across the living room to the cereal box left open on
the kitchen counter. She walked through the apartment aimlessly picking up
after him. When she had left the arena, he was in the shower and Nicoya didn't
want to wait. She had left a note on his gym bag that she'd see him when he got
to her house.
She had just started relaxing in her
tub when she heard him come in.
"Sweetie...I'm home." he
called through the apartment. Jeff walked into the bathroom and smiled at her.
"Ready for me?"
"Not hardly." she laughed as
he sat on the toilet seat. It didn't even phase him that she was sitting in the
tub naked. "You left a mess for me to clean up."
"What? Little Miss Priss can't
clean up after her bestest friend?" Jeff nearly missed getting hit with
the flying shampoo bottle. "Someone's frustrated."
"No...I'm not. You're just a man
and always horny. I know how you are." she leaned her head back against
the wall and closed her eyes. "Go do something." She heard Jeff stand
up and leave the bathroom. She soaked for about half hour, until the water
turned cold. She put on her nightshirt and headed into the hallway. The living
room lights were off, so she went into her room and turned on the TV.
"Jeffrey." she looked at the
lump on the other side of the bed where Jeff use to sleep when he stayed over.
"Get of out my bed. What's wrong with the couch?"
Jeff's head peaked out from under the
blanket. "You're not there." Jeff threw back the covers on the bed so
she could climb in next to him. "Sometimes I really miss cuddling with
you." Nicoya got in and he immediately spooned up against her, nuzzling
her neck. There had always been something about Jeff that Nicoya found
comforting. She often admitted to herself that she missed Jeff, but he wasn't
in her plans now or in the future other than as friends.
"I've always wondered something
about you, Nic." Jeff murmured quietly. He played with a strand of her
hair as he thought. "Why is it that you look nothing like the rest of your
family?" He felt Nicoya take a deep breath. "I'm just curious. Were
you adopted?"
"No." Nicoya rolled onto her
back and looked into Jeff's eyes. "Look closely at me. What do you see
that's not like Stephanie and Shane?"
"Your hair is darker, you have a
darker complexion. Almost like you've got a hint of hispanic or native american
in you."
"Bingo." Nicoya looked away
from him. "Linda had an affair and I was the outcome. Vince made her keep
me and he named me with a native American name so she would always be
reminded." Nicoya's voice drifted off. "And if you've noticed, Vince
only calls me Nic or Nikki. He won't call me Nicoya." Jeff was quiet as he
listened. "I'm the black sheep and he uses me against Linda. But he
doesn't treat me any different than Stephanie or Shane."
"I guess your Daddy's little
girl." Jeff pulled her closer to him so she had her head on his chest. He
stroked her hair and back, feeling good that she told him. "Either that or
daddy's little spoiled brat."
"Both." Nicoya yawned and
snuggled closer. "It was great getting whatever I wanted when I was
little. Now it's annoying the hell out of me."
"You are awfully spoiled."
Jeff got the smack on the stomach he expected. "I did give you everything
you wanted and more."
"Yeah...well...that was
different." Nicoya laughed. "I gave you something I couldn't give
anyone else."
"You gave yourself to my poetry
in motion." Jeff pulled her up and kissed her quickly.
Nicoya groaned. "You're hips were
moving, but I don't know about poetry. Now go to sleep Jeffy." She laid
her head against his shoulder and closed her eyes.
Mackenzie slammed her phone down, then
rubbed her temples. So far this day was going down the tubes, and it wasn’t
even lunchtime. Her day had looked halfway promising, but lack of sleep was
catching up to her. Along with the fact that it seemed no one in the office
could perform even the smallest task without asking for advice. She was
starting to wonder if everybody had given their brains the day off.
And things took a definite turn for
the worse. Right before noon, Nicoya came through her office door. Mackenzie
leaned back and crossed her arms, waiting.
Nicoya looked around then sat on the
arm of the chair in front of Mackenzie’s desk.
“There’s a new assignment for you,”
she smiled and held up a folder she’d brought in with her. Mackenzie didn’t
move to take it from her. “There’s a commercial shoot for 3 of the guys, they
need someone from the office to oversee it. It’s…”
Mackenzie cut her off. “Wait. I’m not
a baby sitter. I’m the office manager. I just deal with their contracts, not
the actual production work.”
“Well, this time we need you to deal
with it. There isn’t anybody else who…”
“Cut the bullshit. Watching over the
guys while they go Hollywood is your job, not mine.”
Nicoya sighed. She had kind of guessed
that this would not go good. For some reason, Mackenzie seemed to hate her.
Actually, Mackenzie seemed to only get along with a very few select people. It
was one of the reasons Vince had hired her. She was able to keep her distance
from the guys and still get her job done.
“Ok…I’ll find somebody else…I just
thought it would be something you’d be interested in doing,” Nicoya stood and
left the office, feeling Mackenzie’s stare all the way back to her own office.
It wasn’t fifteen minutes later that
Mackenzie’s interoffice phone rang.
“Yeah,” she snapped, not stopping in
pulling contracts up from her computer.
“Mac? Vince McMahon,” Mackenzie’s
fingers froze on the keyboard. The bastard had the nerve to call her Mac. She
bit back on her anger. It wouldn’t do good to go super bitch on the boss man
just yet. “If you have a few minutes, I’d like to talk to you about this
commercial.” Nicoya had been morose, and Vince had gathered from her that she
didn’t want to be involved in this one for some reason. He felt obligated to
make her happy.
“As I told your daughter,” Mackenzie
practically spit out the words. “It is not my job to play wet nurse to your
wrestlers.”
Vince chuckled. “Well, it is now.
After discussing it with my wife, we’re promoting you to PR manager.” If he was
expecting enthusiasm, he was going to be disappointed.
“PR? I don’t do publicity,” she kept
her voice low. She really wanted to scream at him. PR people spent almost as
much time on the road as the wrestlers did. And she had the suspicious
feeling…”Which wrestlers?”
“What do you mean?” Vince asked.
“Come on. PR managers get assigned
certain wrestlers to watch over. Which ones are you trying to shove off on me?”
Vince actually laughed. “Mac, I wouldn’t offer you this job if I didn’t have
the utmost confidence in your ability to handle our top talent.” Mackenzie
rolled her eyes. Did the man always think he was on TV? She was pretty sure
she’d heard this speech on Raw a few weeks back.
“Which wrestlers?” She persisted. She
tapped her fingers on the keyboard, making gibberish pop up on her document
program.
“Well, this particular commercial is
Paul, Glen and Mark. Plus you’d also have Chris, and most likely the Hardys’.”
Mackenzie almost groaned out loud. Mark? She wanted to pound her head on the
desk. She didn’t know the first damn thing about PR. She tried to think of some
reason why Nicoya would pass it up. Hogging the spotlight seemed to be a
McMahon specialty.
“We need you on this…starting
tomorrow,” Vince said. His tone was clear. In his eyes she was going to take
the job or be unemployed.
“Then I’m taking the rest of today
off,” Mackenzie said. Christ, she hated giving in. It was bullshit, but that
seemed to be Vince’s favorite pastime.
“That’s fine Mac. Just make sure you
get in touch with the guys in the morning at the studio,” He sounded so damn
smug.
“One more thing,” Mackenzie said
sweetly.
“Name it,” Vince got what he wanted,
so he was willing to hear her out.
“Don’t ever call me Mac again,”
Mackenzie said, then slammed down the phone.
Her headache was worse now. How the
hell could she avoid Mark if she had to be at his beck and call 24/7? The only
bright spot was she’d be on the road. With the wrestlers. And presumably Vince
himself. She’d wasted a lot of time doing office work. Maybe traveling would
give her a new perspective, get her pointed in the right direction. Mackenzie
could still ignore Mark. She wasn’t some drooling fan willing to kiss his boots
at his command.
She smiled a little. If it was a
challenge he wanted, she would give him one. And there wasn’t a chance in hell
that he’d win. She’d worked too long and hard to build her shell, and one man
wasn’t about to tear it down.
Nicoya opened her eyes and stretched.
Jeff was still asleep, his arms and legs were draped over her in an almost
protective way. She maneuvered her way out of bed without waking him. She was
showered, dressed and out the door twenty minutes later. Ready for another
great day at the WWF.
Paul and Stephanie were arriving at
Paul’s desk when they aw a group people huddling around it.
“Why are they at your desk?” Stephanie
asked in her whiny tone as they stopped with the people. Paul’s eyes popped
open when he saw the vase of flowers on his desk. Stephanie grabbed them and
glared at the people standing around. “You all better get back to work….or
else!” The people scattered in different directions leaving Paul and Stephanie
alone. “What the hell are these?”
“I don’t know Steph…I just got here
too.” Paul tried to take them from her, but she whipped away from him glaring.
“Stephanie come on!”
“I want to know who the hell has the
balls to send my husband flowers!” Paul ducked as Stephanie threw them at his
head. “I swear to God if I find out that bitch Joanie sent you flowers because
you’re screwing her, I’m going to make sure you two never work in this company
again!” She stormed off leaving Paul to clean up the mess.
Nicoya watched the busy streets of New
York from her window and sighed. She didn’t feel like working today. Especially
after the blow up that Mackenzie had given her this morning. Little did
Mackenzie know that Nicoya had went to Vince and she should be getting a phone
call from him later this morning.
The only highlight of the coming
afternoon was that Glen had called and said he was in town. He was going to
stop by and take her to lunch so they could talk about the commercial. She was
watching people file into the courthouse across the street when her office door
opened and closed.
“Hello mother.” Nicoya said
automatically. She didn’t even need to turn around, knowing her mother was in
the building and more than likely going to keep close tabs on her.
“Last time I knew, I wasn’t Linda.” A
man’s voice replied. Nicoya turned around and looked at Paul. “Did you send me
flowers?”
“I didn’t. Why would I send you
flowers?” Nicoya crossed her arms over her chest and watched him move toward
her. “Don’t come any closer.” Nicoya’s eyes wandered toward the window where
she could see Mackenzie coming out her office, looking royally pissed.
“If you didn’t send the flowers, then
who did?”
“Do I look like a psychic?” Nicoya sat
down at her desk and watched Paul open the door. “All I know is that I didn’t
send them.” Paul sighed and walked out the door and Mackenzie walked in and
slammed it shut. “And how can I help you?”
“Don’t give me that shit.” Mackenzie
glared. “I tell you no and you go running to Daddy? Can’t you handle anything
yourself without getting another McMahon in the picture? Oh wait…I forgot how
this place works. Everyone has to be in on everything expect the people who get
stuck doing the McMahon’s jobs!”
Nicoya swallowed and watched Mackenzie
carefully, wondering if she should take cover under her desk for projectile
objects. “Lucky for you…no wait…more lucky for me, I accepted the position and
I’m gone tomorrow. And I’m taking the rest of the day off. See ya around Ice
Princess.” Mackenzie stormed out of the office, slamming the door. Nicoya watched
her diploma fall off the wall onto the couch.
“Great…pissed off employees.” Nicoya
leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. “Why the hell am I here?”
Glen stepped off the elevator and
headed toward Nicoya’s office. He was early, but figured she wouldn’t be upset
about it. He was halfway there when Mackenzie stormed out of the office and
past him.
“Hey.” He said to her. She stopped and
looked at him then continued walking. “Ok…she’s in a bad mood.
He knocked on Nicoya’s office door and
opened it. She was sitting at her desk with her head on it. “Is it a bad time?”
“No…come in.” Nicoya sat up and looked
at Glen. “Just a bad morning in general.” She glanced at her email, which
seemed to be flooding in. “Let me go through this stuff and I’ll be ready.”
Glen nodded and sat down on the couch. He picked up her diploma and looked at
it, then hung it back on the wall. Every other email was from Paul, asking her
if she was ok and if he had done something to upset her. She hit reply one
especially annoying email and told him to leave her alone. She hit send and
then looked at Glen. “Let’s get the hell out of here.” She stood up and grabbed
her purse, happy to be leaving the building for awhile.
Nicoya bit her tongue as Glen
maneuvered his rental car into a parking garage across from WWF New York. She
wondered why he was taking her there instead of someplace where he would’nt be
recognized. She was lucky because the fans of the WWF weren’t aware there was a
third McMahon child running around.
Glen pulled his long hair into a
ponytail and put on a baseball cap, the finished the look off with a pair of
dark sunglasses. “Think they’ll know it’s me?” He asked holding the door open
for Nicoya. Nicoya smiled and then laughed. “What?”
“You’re a little obvious.” She walked
with him and had to laugh when he took her hand to cross the street. “Who else
is as tall as you?”
“Mark.” Glen smiled. Nicoya rolled her
eyes as they headed inside.
“Ms. McMahon…we weren’t expecting you
and Mr. Jacobs. Your sister is here, would you like to be seated with her?” the
hostess asked.
“Hell no. Sit us as far away from her
as possible. And preferably away from any fans.” Nicoya and Glen followed the
woman to a back booth and she slid in across form him. “Now let’s see how long
we have peace and quiet.”
The two ordered lunch and talked
quietly about the commercial. Nicoya explained that Mackenzie was taking over
the account and would actually be traveling with the wrestlers now.
“And how were you so lucky to get her
on this account?” Glen asked watching Nicoya pick at her food.
Nicoya blushed. “What did you do?”
“I went to Vince.” Nicoya looked away
and noticed Stephanie coming their way. “Shit…here comes Steph.”
“Nicoya Marie!” Stephanie said when
she saw Glen. “Is daddy aware that you’re having a lunch date with Kane?”
Stephanie’s distaste for Glen could be heard clearly in her voice. “Because if
he doesn’t, I’m going to make sure he knows. I don’t know why you can’t find
someone more respectable like Hunter.” Nicoya glared at Stephanie. “I mean look
at him! He’s a freak! He’s huge and his character wears a mask!”
“Enough Stephanie!” Nicoya hissed.
Glen looked down at the table and Nicoya could tell he was upset. “Go
away…we’re discussing the commercials!”
“Be prepared to hear from Daddy…and
especially mother! She’s going to be very upset!” Stephanie turned on her heel
and walked toward the door.
“I’m sorry for the way she acted.”
Nicoya took Glen’s hand and squeezed. “And her view and my family’s view of you
is not the way I feel. I just wanted to let you know that.” Glen took Nicoya’s
hand in his and smiled at her.
“I know you were nothing like them.”
Glen smiled.
“More than you’ll know.” Nicoya winked
at him. “Now let’s talk more about the commercial.”
Reece couldn’t help but smirk as she
went to the office that had been set up for her. She sat at her desk wondering
what on earth Matt had said about her. She looked around there was very little
for her to do here. Shane may have hired her to do the hiring and firing but
since she had a team of four others replying to the inundation of CV’s they
received and no positions to fill there was nothing for her to do. She sighed
looking at the memo on her desk, Vince wanted to meet with her the next morning
at eight thirty. This couldn’t be good she thought. After a couple hours
meeting her staff and making herself known to them almost begging two of them
to hand her some CV’s to file she gave up and went in search of something to
do. The main part of her job would be to oversee the hiring and firing of the
wrestlers with members of her team taking care of the general office staff
positions.
As Vince had said to her the night
before, he didn’t like to be lacks a daisy about the people he employed. Reece
would spend her time meeting with Pat Patterson, Michael Hayes, Paul Hayman and
Jim Ross, they would recommend young talent and she would over sea the
decisions as to who got far enough to have show contracts and from then on who
would become a superstar. Reece sighed this was going to be a long haul job and
Shane still hadn’t told her what he wanted yet.
Finding herself in Nicoya’s neck of the woods, she strolled towards her office
recognizing Mackenzie’s voice as she berated someone on the phone. Reece
smirked slightly before knocking on Nicoya’s door and stepping inside. Nicoya
waved to her as she spoke on the phone. Reece chuckled quietly at the faces
Nicoya pulled as she spoke to her mother.
“Yes mother” Nicoya said, “I know but
I have work to do. I’ll see what I can do but I doubt I’ll make it.” Nicoya
started to smile “Okay mom I will.” Nicoya put down the phone and flopped into
her chair.
“Family getting you down?” Reece
observed
Nicoya nodded “Family business sucks.”
Reece chuckled “I hear you made an impression though!” Reece groaned “You
chewed out William I’m impressed.”
Reece smiled “I wondered how long that
would stay quiet.”
“And you didn’t tell me, I’m shocked” Nicoya was laughing
“Yeah well admitting to being William
Regal's niece is not something I like to do.”
Nicoya sobered “I know the feeling! So what can I do for you?”
Reece smiled “I need some information,
like who do I see to get a pass for Smack
Down tonight?”
Jeff woke to find Nicoya already gone.
He showered and then headed to the ohtel to meet up with Matt and Amy.
“Where the hell have you been?” Matt
asked as he opened the door. “I ended up at Mackenzie’s because you took off
with the key!”
“I told you I was staying with
Nicoya.” Jeff flopped down on the bed and immediately turned on the TV. “Why
didn’t you just get another room key?”
“That’s not the point!” Matt went back
to packing his bag.
“Are you and Nicoya seeing each other
again?” Amy asked. “I thought she broke up with you.”
“We broke up with each other.” Jeff
corrected her. “And when I’m in town, I stay with her. We’re more like best
friends.”
“But are you sleeping with her?” Amy
pressed. Jeff started laughing and shook his head. “What?”
“I did, however, find something out
about her.” Jeff leaned back on the bed. “But if I tell you two, you have to
promise not to tell anyone.”
“What?” Matt turned around and looked
at Jeff. “I won’t tell.”
“Me either.” Amy said. Both Jeff and
Matt looked at her. “I won’t! God don’t you two trust me?”
“Nicoya isn’t Vince’s daughter.” Jeff
said ignoring Amy’s last statement.
“How can she not be?” Amy asked. “She
looks like Linda in a way.”
“She’s too dark complected to be a
McMahon.” Matt said. “Stephanie and Shane are light skinned.” He was quiet for
a moment. “Was she adopted?”
“No.” Jeff yawned and closed his eyes.
“Linda had an affair with a wrestler back in the 70s. She got pregnant and
Vince made her keep the baby. From what Nicoya said last night, he did it so
Linda would always be reminded.” Amy’s eyes widened as she looked from Matt to
Jeff.
“So why does Vince treat her so well?”
Amy asked. Jeff shrugged. “You should find out.”
“What’s it matter?” Jeff looked at
her. “She’s technically a McMahon. She’s got just as much pull in this company
as the other two. It won’t matter much.” He got off the bed and grabbed his
bag. “Let’s check out and get the to the arena. I want to work out before
Smackdown.”
Nicoya went back to her office after
having lunch with Glen and prepared for a meeting with an advertiser at that
night’s Smackdown show. Reece stopped in and Nicoya hooked her up with her an
employee pass.
“I told Daddy you were on a date with
Kane.” Stephanie said walking into Nicoya’s office without knocking. “He’s not
happy.”
“Why are you being such a bitch?”
Nicoya snapped. “No one said a word about a date. We were discussing the
commercial he’s going to be in.”
“So that’s why you two were holding
hands after I left?” Stephanie looked at the pictures on the wall and ran her
fingers over the frame that held a picture of her and Paul. “Jennifer told me
you two were looking pretty cozy.”
“Who’s Jennifer and what does it
matter? Now get out of my office!” Stephanie glared and walked out. “Sometimes
I can’t stand her!”
Nicoya left for the arena and was
greeted at the employee entrance by her father who looked rather upset.
“Hi Daddy.” Nicoya said without
emotion. She tried to go past him, but he stopped her.
“Your mother and I want to speak with
you.” He said sternly. “Follow me.” Nicoya hesitated, then followed him to his
office where her whole family was waiting.
“Why are they all here?” She asked as
Vince closed the door.
“Sit down Nicoya.” Linda ordered from
her seat next to Shane. “We’re very disappointed in you.”
“Why?” Nicoya crossed her arms over
her chest protectively and glared at all of her family, including Paul who was
sitting next to Stephanie. “Let me guess…little miss big mouth came running to
you to tell you she saw me with Glen.”
“Glen Jacobs is not someone you should
be friendly with. He’s a no name in this company is going nowhere. Your father
and I have been thinking about letting him go. He doesn’t draw enough fan
attention.”
“Are you guys all freakin’ nuts? Do
you not hear the fans go wild for him? Do you not realize that I have
advertisers asking for him?” Nicoya felt her blood boiling. Glen had been
treated like shit since she could remember, and he had always been one of her
favorite wrestlers. “You people make me sick!”
“Why can’t you find someone more
respectable Nicoya?” Shane asked. “First person you seriously date is Jeff Hardy!
What was with that? At least you convinced him to stop dying his hair all those
colors when he came to family gatherings.” He looked at Stephanie. “Now take
Stephanie for example…she married Paul and look at how well the fans like him.”
Linda and Stephanie nodded in agreement. “If you wanted to, we could hook you
up with someone like Andrew.”
“I don’t want Stephanie’s leftovers.”
Nicoya jumped off her chair. “It’s bad enough I slept with Paul.” Nicoya glared
at everyone. “Yes Stephanie…it was me who’s been with Paul, not Joanie.”
Stephanie lunged at Nicoya and Paul had to pull her back. “Maybe if you weren’t
so frigid, he wouldn’t have had to come to me.” Nicoya ran out of the room and
down the hallway.
Chapter 20
The show was almost over, Matt and
Jeff’s tag match had been the penultimate fight and Matt was still feeling the
effects as he lay on the bench in the physio room.
“Okay Matt what happened?” Chris the
resident physio asked
Matt rubbed his swore ankle, “Went
over on it outside the ring when Rhyno shot me into the steps.” Chris nodded
slowly removing Matt’s boot and examining his ankle.
“It’s not twisted. I’ll get some spray
and bandage it up.” Matt nodded lying back covering his eyes as
Chris left to fetch the all-important
spray that healed most wounds. The door clicked again
“That was fast” Matt said not looking
up, “Bind it up tight for me will ya,” Matt said wondering why Chris was
remaining so silent and why the old spray hadn’t hit his skin “Chris?” Matt
said sitting up. He stared at Reece as she stood by the door; he swallowed hard
as his eyes drank her in. She was dressed in denim style trousers with a v neck
jumper and short leather jacket, he finally remembered to breathe and blink.
“You know I would but I missed the
class on bandage binding.” She smiled at him as he continued to stare. Matt
finally smiled slightly making her feel less nervous and less
like a monster with two heads. “I came to apologize.” She said her voice
remaining soft,
“Apologize for what?”
“Last night, he had no right to talk to you like that.”
Matt shrugged “Some guys are
protective of their….”
“Nieces” Matt stopped staring at her his mouth open slightly “Darren acted like
a child and I’m sorry you got caught up in it. Anyway I better leave you to it.
I’ll see you.” She turned and left the room, Matt sat stunned for a moment
before hoping off the bed and grabbing the door handle.
Chris almost fell through the door as
it opened. “Hey slow down there!” Matt looked at him exasperated he sighed
kicking himself for letting her leave that fast.
Sitting in the locker room Matt was still mentally berating himself for just
sitting there while she walked out of the room. He sighed pulling on his
leather jacket and shouldering his bag, he was the last to leave the arena he
knew it was time to call a taxi. Jeff and Any had taken off while he was with
Chris and it was highly unlikely anyone would have thought to leave him a car.
As he wandered down the quiet hall he
heard a door creak “Matt!” he turned and smiled as Chris caught him up “I got
you a lift, it’s waiting for you outside.”
Matt smiled “Thanks man.”
Chris nodded “No problem, thought you
might be caught short.” Matt chuckled and said goodbye before heading out of the
back door. No fans remained in the silence of the night. He sighed his eyes
adjusting to the dark. He could see the car a few feet away he limped towards
it as he did he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
After Reece left the treatment room
she met with Chris in the corridor,
“Thanks for that”
He nodded “No problem.”
“Did Matt come with Jeff tonight?”
Chris nodded “Yeah I think so.” Reece
remembered seeing Jeff and Amy leave as she entered she knew there was some
meet and greet planned that Nicoya had arranged for some businessmen. Reece
shoved her hands in her pockets
“Okay tell Matt he has a lift waiting
outside.”
Chris nodded “Sure thing.” He wandered
back in the direction of the room leaving Reece to head to her car. She pulled
her car up outside the door and climbed out to sit on the bonnet and watch the
stars until Matt opened the door. She heard the click of the handle as he
stepped out and paused before limping towards the car she smiled at the look of
utter amazement on his face when he saw her.
“You needed a taxi?” she said moving to rest on the wing of the car as he stood
his bag still shouldered as he studied her, a smile starting to form on his
face.
“Guess you saved me a headache” Reece
looked at him puzzled
“I did?”
Matt nodded limping forward “Yeah
guess I don’t have to ask William for your number now.”
Reece chuckled “Cos he would have
given it to you.”
Matt shrugged “I would have found out some how.”
Reece nodded slowly “You want to grab
a coffee?” Reece stepped forward taking the bag from his shoulder
“Sure.”
Going in stead to a bar near the hotel, Matt and Reece found a secluded booth
and sat chatting on the same bench seat chatting intimately
“I still don’t believe it.” Reece
smirked “William Regal!” Matt shook his head “And I
thought you and he were”
Reece shivered “Oh please credit me
with some taste.”
Matt laughed, “So what are you doing
here? I mean is it a flying visit?”
Reece studied his dark eyes, “Well I
don’t know if I’m here for the long haul but I’ll be around for a while.”
Matt couldn’t hide the slight smile
that played on his lips, “You still haven’t told me why you’re here.” He said
softly Reece shrugged
“Why I’m here in general or why I’m
here with you?”
Matt smiled “Both”
Reece leaned back against the leather
cushions and smiled slightly “I’m the new HR Manager” Matt nodded slowly
“And for the other?”
Reece chuckled “I have a feeling your
friend might have killed me if I didn’t talk to you.”
Matt groaned, “So Mac is the reason
you’re here.”
Reece smirked “Not the only reason” he looked up in to her sparkling blue eyes
and smiled
“Good.”
Chapter 21
Regal was starting to get worried it was gone three am and Reece wasn’t back
yet. He had been calling her room for the past three hours without success. She
had refused to take his calls all day and had ignored his dinner invitation. He
couldn’t understand what had gotten into the girl. He sighed deciding to head
in to the bar for a while at least that way he might catch her as she came
back. She hadn’t yet moved in to the flat Shane was providing her with, as far
as Regal was concerned Reece owed Shane everything and there was no way he
would let her forget that.
Matt and Reece had taken a short walk into the park opposite the pub. They
walked in silence for a little while, “How’s the ankle?”
Matt shrugged “It’s okay.”
“That why your limping?”
Matt smirked “I could be looking for
sympathy.”
Reece smiled “Sympathy from me you’d
be lucky.”
Matt chuckled “And here’s me thinking
you might take pity on me.” Reece stopped facing him
“You want pity? Fraid all I can offer
is tea”
Matt chuckled “Sold!”
Three thirty, Regal had had enough he stood outside Reece’s room banging on the
door. “Reece! Reece! Open this door!” No reply he huffed “Reece open this door
damn it!” the door next to Reece’s opened and referee Earl Hebner looked
outside, taking one look at William he threw up his hands and retreated in to
his room. William pulled a face and showed the door the V sign “Jumped up
twerp” he muttered.
Matt and Reece stepped out of the elevator discussing the best wrestler from
the 1980s and Reece was adamant that Sting beat any other WCW wrestler and Bret
Hart was better than Shawn Michaels. They were still debating when they rounded
the corner they both stopped talking
“Uh oh” Matt whispered. Reece groaned
“Reece open this door!” Matt and Reece
about turned and walked round the corner Matt rested against the wall
“Maybe you should go talk to him?”
Reece shook her head “I’d rather not
end a good evening with a slanging match.” Matt nodded slowly
“He would really go off at you if he
saw you with me?”
Reece turned serious “What I do, who I
see has nothing to do with him.” Matt nodded slowly “Come on I have a kettle in
my room.” Reece smiled as they headed back to the elevator.
Matt opened the door to his room and
let Reece in side, he turned on the light and hobbled to the desk taking off
his jacket and grabbing the small kettle from it’s place on the dresser. Reece
took it form his hand
“No you don’t” Matt looked at her
mystified “Sympathy remember” she said ushering
him to the chair Matt complied sitting down. Reece knelt on the floor in front
of him lifting his leg slightly and placing it on her knee. Matt watched her
intently as she undid the laces of his boot and gently slipped it off. She
pulled the stool from under the dresser and set his foot gently on it. Matt’s
eyes followed her as she stood and collected the kettle before disappearing
into the bathroom.
