" One Last Chance... " One last chance... that is what Goldberg has been given. After three straight losses, many have said that Goldberg is looking to retire. However, last Thursday on Impact, a huge announcement was made when Mick Foley announced that there would be a Battle Royal for the #1 Contendership to the World Heavyweight title. The participants? Eight of the best superstars to ever step foot in the WIW... Lizzy Borden... Stone Cold Steve Austin.... ‘HBK’ Shawn Michaels... Eugene... The Rock... Sting... Shelton Benjamin... Goldberg. Anyone could win... so will Goldberg be able to beat the other seven superstars, giving him what he wants most... a World Heavyweight title shot? Or will a Battle Royal loss be the deciding factor in Goldberg’s retirement? Can Da Man regain his rightful rematch for the title that he never received? The only thing that is certain is that this Thursday on Impact... history will be made... history will repeat itself...
Scene 1
The scene opens up backstage just a day before Impact, where a huge battle royal to name a new #1 contender to the World Heavyweight title will take place. Coach is seen strutting down the hallway in a cocky way. He wears black sunglasses, which just adds to his arrogance. Coach points to a couple of people as he walks by them, acting like he knows them. He then walks by a locker room door, glancing at what it says on it. As he thinks about the name on the door again, he stops walking. He slowly walks backwards and stops as he reaches it. The nameplate can now be read... and it simply reads DA MAN. Coach smirks as he knocks on the door.
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Yeah, what?!”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Open up! It’s...”
Coach pauses, thinking about what to say. He smiles as he decides what to tell Goldberg.
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “It’s the police!”
Silence is heard before the door flings open, hitting the wall. Goldberg stands in the doorway, not surprised to see Coach standing there.
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Very funny. So what the hell do you want now?”
Coach laughs to himself as he looks down at the ground.
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Heh, heh... what do I want? How about a two weeks paid vacation?”
Coach continues to laugh as Goldberg just stares at Coach. Goldberg does not even crack a smile, obviously thinking that Coach is not funny.
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Right. Anyway, I’ve been told my the almighty Impact General Manager, Mick Foley, to find you and get an exclusive interview. So are you busy?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Busy? Not anymore now that I have been interrupted. If it’s an interview you want, then let’s get the damn thing done with.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Alright, alright. Well, first off, will you silence the rumors? Are you seriously thinking about retiring soon?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “I have a passion for wrestling, Coach. I have a passion for going out there to entertain the fans day in and day out. I have a passion for the World Heavyweight title. When my passion runs out, that is when I will retire. But until then, everybody should watch out... ‘cause you never know when you just might be next...”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “What do you think about your loss to the newcomer, Rob Van Dam? Were you surprised by the big upset he pulled off?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Yeah, I was. I do not know why, but throughout the entire match, I just couldn’t seem to focus on anything. I’m not making excuses... RVD beat me fair and square. And to tell you the truth, I am still rather shocked that he was able to pull one over me. I obviously have a lot more experience than him. But that doesn’t matter... that was just a singles match with no real purpose. I am more concerned about my match tomorrow night on Impact rather than last weeks match with Rob Van Dam.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Well, I remember you saying last week that in the event, Rob Van Dam did beat you, he would gain your respect. Does he indeed have your respect now that he was able to defeat you?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “I’m a man of my word. Rob was able to pin me and so, he has my respect... but that’s it. If you think I owe him anything else, think again. Just because RVD got lucky, it’s not like I’m going to praise him or anything. If Rob wants to really impress me, then tell him to win the World Heavyweight Championship. ‘Cause you see, by the time Rob will get a title shot, I will be the World Heavyweight Champion and this time, he won’t be so lucky. Rob, you haven’t seen the last of me...”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Well, you said one reason why you might have lost to Rob Van Dam was that you were not able to focus. Do you think it had anything to do with being thrown in jail? Did you have a bad experience, Goldy? Did you drop the soap?”
Goldberg looks at Coach and slightly nods his head in disagreement.
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “That’s funny, Coach... ‘cause you should know what it’s like to drop the soap... considering you do it every night for Shane O’ Mac.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Hey!”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Coach, you were the main reason I was put in tjail in the first place. Yeah, maybe that was the reason why I couldn’t focus. Maybe it was because I was sitting in a jail for two days, not getting even one minute of sleep.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “I heard you met Massacre’s Nathan Jones in there...”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Yeah, Jones was there as well. And he lost his match, too.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Well, speaking of Nathan Jones, your new friend, what do you think of his match at December 2 Dismember this Sunday? It will be Team Kane, which will consist of Kane, Nathan Jones, Chris Candido, and Paul London... versus Team Goldust, which is made up of Goldust, Tommy Dreamer, and Matt and Jeff Hardy. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the winning team gets to run Massacre for a month.”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Actually, I don’t really pay much attention to Massacre all that much. But this match sounds like it will be a great match. I am not really sure who will win. I know that Nathan Jones and his team definitely have their work cut out for them having to go against two ex-Massacre Champions, Goldust and Matt Hardy... plus Tommy Dreamer and Jeff Hardy. As for the special stipulation, well, I think Massacre is about to become a lot more interesting!”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Hmm... well, moving on to the real point of interest... the battle royal tomorrow night. First off, has your feelings toward the match remained the same since yesterday?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Pretty much. I still consider myself the most favorable to win out of all the competitors in this match. I have been here the longest out of all the wrestlers, therefore I have the most experience. I have held the World Heavyweight Championship title twice... which is more than any of my opponents have. I am a Hall of Famer... which is also something that none of my opponents have been able to accomplish. Looking over the card, I am the one who catches your eye the most. I admit that I have been on a slump as of late, mainly because I was not involved with the World Heavyweight title. But now that I have once again been given an opportunity such as this one, I am back and better than ever. There is nothing and nobody that will stop me from picking up the win come Thursday night. I don’t care if I have to single-handedly eliminate every single one of my opponents one-by-one... it’s fine. ‘Cause in the end, I will be the one who will be declared the winner and I will be the one who gets the World Heavyweight title shot.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Another advantage I heard you say is that you won the 2004 Royal Rumble match. How will that help you come tomorrow night?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Well, me winning the Rumble clearly shows that I am great in these types of matches. About a year ago, I was able to defeat twenty-nine other wrestlers... wrestlers ranging from Kane to The Rock. I was able to win then and tomorrow night will be no different. I won the Royal Rumble and got a title shot at Wrestlemania, which I won. And come tomorrow and this Sunday... history will repeat itself once again. I beat twenty-nine other superstars... so what’s seven more?”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Well, from that point of view, this match should be an easy victory for you. Anyway, who do you think will in fact be your biggest challenge in this match?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Well, a battle royal is really unpredictable... and that’s what it’s famous for. Any of the eight participants could walk out as the winner... and that anyone will be me. As for the toughest challenge to me in this match, I’d have to say Lizzy Borden. At first I thought Shawn Michaels would be... but it’s obvious that he has decided just to not show up mentally once again. So, I think that Lizzy will be. She is bound and determined to prove her abilities once again and win the World Heavyweight Championship. Well, Lizzy, I’m sorry... but you won’t be getting a title shot this time around. I have waited far longer than you have... and I am not about to let you steal the title shot away from me.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Well, earlier today, Lizzy talked about the Battle Royal match. She specifically mentioned you... so do you think she feels that you are the biggest threat in this match for her?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Definitely. And why shouldn‘t I be? Lizzy obviously knows that I will not be an easy feat seeing as she singled me out. Lizzy isn’t dumb... even though she has never wrestled me before, she knows what I can do and she knows that I am capable of getting the job done. And I wouldn‘t be surprised if I was the biggest threat to all the superstars competing in this match.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “With that said, are you worried about getting teamed up on since you might be the biggest threat to all of the others?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Well, I do not see that happening. A battle royal is every man... or woman... for themselves. Just when it looks like two guys have teamed up, one gets greedy and attacks the other. In this type of match, Coach, there are no teams. Take myself and Stone Cold for example... we are both part of the Supremacy... but we are not going to team up for the simple fact that I don’t need help... and Stone Cold says the same.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Lizzy also said that she is next... the next World Heavyweight Champion.”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Yeah, like I haven’t heard that one before. You know, Lizzy, it’s pretty damn easy to say that now... but try saying that tomorrow night when you and I are standing face-to-face. It won’t be so easy then, Lizzy. Lizzy, you have no idea what it is like to be next... it’s like sitting there and watching the clock, knowing that any second could be your last. Lizzy as the World Heavyweight Champion... only in a rerun.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Is there somebody else that you feel might cause some damage?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Well, there has been a certain thorn in my side... a thorn that goes by the name of Sting. Sting obviously did not take too kindly to what I said the other day. Well, Sting you have yet to prove me wrong. You say that this being your second match is not disadvantage... and that you do not have any disadvantages. Well, you’re looking at your first disadvantage... me! Me being in your match drastically decreases your chances of walking out of this match as the winner. And Sting, I know that this isn’t 1996... but it’s time you realize that it’s not the 90s either. This isn’t WCW anymore, Sting... this is the big leagues. I admit that I dominated WCW and when I came to the WIW, critics said that I wouldn’t last... but I did. And I have dominated WIW as well. Sting, I stand by what I said... you do not deserve to be in this match. Hell, you don’t even deserve front row seats for this match. It took me two months before I got a title shot... and now, in your second match, you have a chance to win one? Sting, believe me when I say that you have no idea what your in store for... no idea. I’ll just leave it at that.”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Well, so far you have not mentioned Eugene, The Rock or Shelton Benjamin at all. Is this because you do not feel they pose a threat?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “I haven’t mentioned the Rock, Eugene, or Shelton Benjamin for the simple fact that they haven’t crossed my mind. They have yet to even show their face and talk about this match... so that shows that they aren’t too focused on it. These three don’t even deserve to be in this match and now that they have not even talked about it, it shows their inexperience here in the WIW. Mark my words that these three men will be the first to be eliminated...”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Well, lastly, what do you think about the current World Heavyweight Champion... the man that whoever wins tomorrow night will face this Sunday at December 2 Dismember... that man being the Legend Killer, Randy Orton.”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “The Legend Killer, huh? Well, I am one legend he has yet to kill. Orton is a great athlete... he’s the World Heavyweight Champion and also is one half of the Tag Team Champions. Orton has proved his abilities by climbing up that mountain... that ladder of success. He has finally reached his goal... finally fulfilled his destiny... finally climbed to the top of the ladder. Well, it’s just too bad that I am about to knock him off. Randy, you are one arrogant son of a bitch... but I have to admit that you have backed up your cockiness. If there’s something I love more than winning the World Heavyweight Championship, it’s winning the World Heavyweight Championship by beating a cocky son of a bitch. Get ready, Randy...”
| ‘Cocky Interviewer’ Coach | “Is there one last thing you would like to tell your seven opponents?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Eugene... Lizzy... Rock... Shelton... Shawn... Steve... Sting... I’m ready, are you guys? I hope you are. This match has got many people talking... talking about history. Many have said this just might be the greatest match in WIW history. And I really hope it lives up to all the hype it has created. Well, that’s enough said.”
Goldberg turns and starts to walk away. However, having forgot to say something, Goldberg retraces his steps and looks back at the camera.
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Oh, yeah... heh, heh... I almost forgot. Guys... YOU’RE NEXT!!!”
Having said what he needed to say, Goldberg turns and walks away. The scene slowly fades to black...
