Will it be able to stop the unstoppable? Or will it fail just like the rest? All will be determined at VENGEANCE!
Scene 1 ~ A Warm Ovation...
The scene opens up at a house show at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The crowd lets out one big simultaneous groan as a jobber walks out with generic music. The crowd obviously wants to see big name wrestlers instead of local ones. The jobber is announced to be from Philadelphia, but the crowd could not care less. He slides into the ring and raises his arms as the crowd boos. Howard Finkel picks up the mic and is about to announce his opponent.
| ‘The Fink’ Howard Finkel | “And his opponent, weighing in at 257 lbs., from New York City, New...”
Suddenly a loud bang interrupts Howard as Goldberg’s theme song thunders throughout the arena. It’s evident that Goldberg was not scheduled to be the opponent. The fans begin to boo and the famous GOLDBERG chant is started... however, the fans add a SUCKS to the end of the Goldberg chant.
Goldberg walks out, apparently in his usual bad mood. He holds the World Heavyweight Title over his shoulder, proudly displaying it to the fans in attendance. Goldberg walks down the ramp and climbs up the steps and into the ring. The jobber, not sure what to do, stands his ground. Goldberg stares down the kid and begins to slowly walk over. Goldberg pretends to hit the kid as the kid slides out of the ring and out of sight. The crowd continues to boo as Goldberg laughs to himself. Goldberg grabs a microphone as his music dies out. He smiles as he begins to talk...
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Well, well, well! It looks like once again your favorite wrestler is the World Heavyweight Champion!”
This statement from Goldberg draws more boos from the crowd.
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “You know, everybody was saying that Kurt Angle was going to beat me... but what are those people saying now? They are speechless because once again I proved them wrong. I went through hell with Kurt Angle and only I emerged as the victor, just like I promised I would. I’m sure a lot of you dumb people actually thought I was scared of that old piece of steel they call the Hell in a Cell... well, I did put on a good act. I was never afraid of the Hell in a Cell, because I knew that nothing would happen to me. I was just psyching out Kurt, and it obviously worked. Heh, I left Kurt lying in the middle of the ring motionless. After I beat Kurt, I looked out into the fans and enjoyed the look on their faces... that look of shock... that look of astonishment... that look of hatred. I have now went through every single person to stand in my way... first it was Triple H... he put up one hell of a fight, but I, of course, won. Then it was the mighty Brock Lesnar... the all powerful, the only supposed man who could match my strength... the same man that promised to beat me. Well, I dropped him faster than third period French! Then Kurt Angle steps up to the plate... an Olympic Gold Medallist, promising to end my title reign. Well, we all know that he struck out. Ha, ha, ha!”
Goldberg pauses momentarily before continuing.
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “And now, my next challenger awaits me. A challenger by the name of... Stone Cold Steve Austin.”
The crowd bursts full of cheers for the mention of Stone Cold’s name.
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Oh yeah, sure... last week you guys were booing him, now you cheer him?! Make up your mind! Stone Cold doesn’t care about you guys... he never has and he never will. Austin is in this business for one thing and one thing only, the same thing I am in this business and the same reason why everybody else is in this business... for the World Heavyweight title. He doesn’t care if you cheer him or boo him... just as long as he gets what he wants. But there’s the difference, you see. I don’t want you guys to cheer me. There was one time a while ago that you guys would cheer me and chant my name each and every night. That was when I was weak. I was the Goldberg that wanted to put on a good show to entertain the fans. Stone Cold, you are growing weak. I thought you got smarter when you came back to the WWE and joined the Supremacy, but now you are starting to show emotion for those jealous fans. That’s what they are, Steve, they’re jealous of you, me, and the Supremacy. Steve, you ask why the fans boo the Supremacy... it’s jealousy. They know we are the best in the WWE... hell, we are the best in the world. Jealousy is just a natural feeling to have when such superstars as us are dominating everybody in sight. Steve, you know what to do... ditch the fans.”
The fans boo and an AUSTIN chant is started.
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Relax, relax... Stone Cold isn’t here tonight.”
The crowd grows angry with this information. The booing continues.
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Stone Cold, you are a good wrestler... hell, you’re one of the best to ever grace the WWE. But you’re not the best... you see, Steve, the label of being the best is reserved for one man... and that’s Da Man. Steve, I have a lot of respect for you... you’re one of the few guys I do have respect for. But, as I have said numerous times in the past, an opponent is an opponent. I will not let up on you, Stone Cold... you are a threat to my World title and I will not let you take it from me. You told me to prove you wrong... just wait, I will. I will prove you wrong and I will prove the world wrong. The entire world knows that I will beat Stone Cold... but they are hoping I don’t. The fans would love to have a champion that they can be proud of... that they can cheer for... that could be their role model. The fans boo me because they know that I speak the truth... they know that I can see right through them.”
Goldberg lowers the mic, thinking to himself. Then he raises the mic and continues...
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Steve, you are definitely right that this is a match for the ages. This is a dream match for as long as anyone can remember. I used to dominate WcW while the WWF was in the Austin Era. The two very best athletes of their respective sides battling it out... it seemed like something that would never happen. But now it has. The Texas rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin, against Da Man, Bill Goldberg... going toe-to-toe for the first time in wrestling history. Steve, you used to be the best in the WWF... but times have changed. A new era has begun and it’s called the Goldberg Era. Steve, the test of time has begun to take its effect on you. Sure, we are about the same age... I’m 37, you’re 39... but over the years, Steve, your knees have begun to wear out. Maybe this won’t be that same dream match that everybody had planned out in their minds. I’m still in my prime, Steve... are you?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “And don’t worry, Steve, I can hit a Jackhammer big enough to take down the old rattlesnake... but can you hit a big enough Stunner to get me knock me down for the three count? Steve, you are saying that you will kick out of everything, no matter what. But Steve, you have no idea what it feels like to experience a Spear or a Jackhammer. Sure, everybody says they will kick out... but when it’s time to face the music, they always come up short. Ask Triple H, ask Brock Lesnar, ask Kurt Angle... they all fall short.”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “But I’m not going to sit out here and talk any longer... ‘cause, quite frankly, you guys smell terrible. Heh, Steve... I’ll see you Sunday.”
Goldberg drops the mic as the fans boo. Goldberg climbs out of the ring and heads towards his locker room. Several fans yell insults and throw up their middle finger as Goldberg walks by. He smiles to himself as he turns around and holds up the World Heavyweight title. The fans boo uncontrollably and some even throw garbage. Goldberg heads to the backstage as the scene fades out...
Scene 2 ~ The Stone Cold Truth...
The scene opens back up just a few minutes later. Goldberg is walking back from the ring towards his locker room when he is approached by Michael Cole.
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Excuse me, Goldberg. I was wondering if I could perhaps get a word from you... I interviewed Steve Austin the other day and I was hoping I could do the same to you.”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “I guess so... I mean what else is there to do in this boring town?”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Well, there is this really neat arcade down the street...”
Goldberg glares at Michael...
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Oh, sorry. First of all, what do you think of Brock Lesnar getting kicked to the curb by the Supremacy and now he has left the WWE all together?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Brock Lesnar is what they call a sore loser. I defeated him at the King of the Ring and he was humiliated. He tried to wrestle again but then he lost again and again and again! He couldn’t handle the fact that he can’t wrestle, so he took off. But it wouldn’t matter if he did stay, because the Supremacy finally eliminated the weakness within our faction... that weakness of course being Brock Lesnar. Like I said, I let Brock beat me just to give him a break, but then he turns around and challenges me for my title... well, that was a big mistake that ultimately led to his departure.”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Are you sick of facing another Supremacy member?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Well, it’s obvious that I will always be fighting Supremacy members since the Supremacy is made up of the very best wrestlers. But, to tell you the truth, when I step foot in that ring, they are nothing but my opponent. I don’t care if I have respect for them or I’m best friends with them, cause at the end of the day, you have to look out for one person... yourself.”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Steve said that you’ve had a good run as champion, but now you’re reign is over. What do you say in response to that quote?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “I agree that I have had a good reign... but I’m not ready for it to be over. You see, it only gets better. My reign will continue and so will the Goldberg Era. I have told everybody that I will not stop until everybody believes the hype... until everybody is willing to acknowledge the fact that I am the greatest thing to ever hit the WWE and the wrestling world. My reign as the World Heavyweight Champion will not end this Sunday at Vengeance... and it certainly won’t end against Stone Cold Steve Austin.”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “When do you think this title reign will end?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “It will end when I want it to end. It’s obvious nobody will be able to take this title away from me, so I might just have to retire with it. But one thing is for sure is that my reign won’t end until I have landed a spot in the Hall of Fame right next to Mr. Franchise, Shane Douglas. I mean, I can’t believe I’m not even in the Hall of Fame yet. I have held the title more than Douglas, I have won more matches than Douglas, I have lasted longer than Douglas... and where’s my name in the Hall of Fame, Cole?”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “It’s not there...”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Exactly, Cole... it’s not there. I will continue to dominate the WWE until I get the respect I deserve!”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Steve uses his Austin 3:16 catchphrase to describe when he’s in a bad mood...”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “I know, Cole. Austin 3:16 this and Austin 3:16 that. Well, Goldberg 6:32 says I just speared your ass!”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “6:32?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “That’s right... twice as much... twice as pissed. Whenever Austin is going to kick someone’s ass, he says Austin 3:16... well, I am going to kick Austin’s ass so I just figured that I should double the amount of ass kicking. Austin, you call yourself a beer swilling, blue eyed son of gun... but that doesn’t mean anything to me. It just means you drink a lot of beer and you have blue eyes... but when people call me Da Man, it means something. They’re not calling me a man... they’re calling me Da Man, meaning the man to represent everybody else. Da Man means that I am the definition of what a man should be. And Austin, come this Sunday at Vengeance, you will truly find out why they call me Da Man!”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “What are some of the similarities between yourself and Stone Cold Steve Austin?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Oh, there are a ton of similarities between us. We are both bald with goatees. We both are tough sons of bitches. We are both out for one thing, the World Heavyweight Title, and there is nothing we won’t do to get it. We have both dominated the wrestling world. We have both held numerous titles. We are both in the Supremacy. We both used to be crowd favorites until the fans turned on us... hell, I could go on all night, Cole. The real question is about the differences, ‘cause they’re ain’t many.”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Alright... so what are some differences between the two of you?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “First of all, a big difference is that the fans are cheering Stone Cold again... and Steve seems to feed off that. I, on the other hand, I feed off the hatred erupting from the crowd. Steve is tough... I am strong... you may not think there is a big difference between tough and strong, but there is. Then there is the biggest difference of all... the biggest thing that sets myself and Stone Cold Steve Austin apart is one thing...”
Goldberg holds up the World Heavyweight Title to the camera.
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “That one thing that sets us apart is this World Heavyweight Championship... which belongs to me. Steve, I know how bad you want this title to be the thing that sets you apart from me, not me apart from you. In other words, I know how bad you want this title around your waist. But, you see, Steve, I have held this title for so long that I’m not ready to let it go anytime soon. This title has become my life... every aspect has involved this title. I am not about to lose everything that I have worked for that quick. Sure, you might think that I have had a long title reign, but compared to how long I had to work to get here, it was nothing. I plan on making every bit of my hard work and sacrifice well worth it by the time my title reign is over... and it hasn’t been well worth it yet.”
| ‘Boring Interviewer’ Michael Cole | “Is there anything you would like to say directly to Stone Cold?”
| ‘Da Champ’ Goldberg | “Yeah... Steve, you are right when you say that this will be the toughest challenge either of us have ever faced. It will be neck and neck throughout the whole match... but when it’s all over... when it’s all said and done... only one man will walk out with his head held high. I envision my music thundering throughout the arena as Vengeance ends... but you seem to think different. Steve, you say that the fans will hear the sound of breaking glass as the match ends. I guess their is only one way to find out the truth... the Stone Cold Truth. Heh, Steve, this is the match that the fans... wait, screw the fans... this is the match that I have been waiting for. This is the real test... the only way to find out, once and for all, who is better. I know deep down inside that I can beat the Texas rattlesnake... and I know that I can survive the deadly venom long enough to finish you off.”
Goldberg stares into the camera before breaking into a grin. He looks at Michael Cole and then walks off as the scene slowly fades to black...
