" A Fighting Champion "
Fresh off a two match losing streak, Goldberg heads into Battle for the Gold with one goal in mind... retaining what’s rightfully his. Will Goldberg’s last two matches be a sign of things to come in the future for Da Man? Will the Docta of Thuganomics pull off the upset to defeat the Intercontinental Champion? Or will Goldberg bounce back and show everybody who the real champ is? Who will walk out of Battle for the Gold as the Intercontinental Champion? All these questions can only be answered at one place... at one time... in one match. The Intercontinental Champion defends the title against the Doctor of Thuganomics when Bill Goldberg takes on John Cena... Sunday, September 26, 2004... Live from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon... AT&T presents WIW Battle for the Gold!
Scene 1
" The Legend Killer "
The scene opens up at the WIW Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. A 1966 Cobra pulls up in front of the doors as none other than WIW Intercontinental Champion, Bill Goldberg, sits behind the wheel. Goldberg turns off the engine and opens the door as he climbs out. A valet walks towards Goldberg as Bill tosses him the keys. The valet looks very eager to drive the car when Goldberg grabs his arm.
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Scratch it... and I’ll break your arm. That’s not a threat... that’s a promise.”
Goldberg lets go of the valet’s arm as the valet looks shaken up. The valet slowly walks to the car and opens the door. He gradually climbs in, making sure not to hurt anything. Then he turns the engine off and pulls away. Goldberg watches until the car if out of sight. Then Goldberg opens the door of the WIW Headquarters and walks inside.
Goldberg starts to walk toward the front desk when a voice calls out to him.
| ‘Legend Killer’ Randy Orton | “Hey Goldy... how does it feel now that the legend of Goldberg has been killed?”
Goldberg slowly turns around to find Evolution member, Randy Orton standing behind him.
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “At least I am a legend.”
| ‘Legend Killer’ Randy Orton | “Whoa, whoa, whoa! It’s only a matter of time before I become the first ever Grand Slam champion.”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “How long do we have to wait until that time comes? You had a chance to get a World Heavyweight title shot, but you lost to Eugene.”
| ‘Legend Killer’ Randy Orton | “Listen Goldy, you’re just mad that Batista and I defeated you and that other washed up baldie, Stone Cold! We showed you that Evolution was your solution. And this Sunday, I hope you’re backstage watching when myself and Batista defeat Konnan and the Big Show to become the WIW World Tag Team Champions!”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “I’ll be sure to watch... while I’m shining up my Intercontinental title.”
Randy Orton smirks as he takes a step back.
| ‘Legend Killer’ Randy Orton | “Better shine it up as much as you can, ‘cause Cena just might beat you for it soon.”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Yeah, we’ll see about that.”
| ‘Legend Killer’ Randy Orton | “Oh and by the way, how did that RKO feel?”
Randy smirks again as Goldberg laughs to himself. Goldberg turns towards the front doors to see a long black limo pull up. A window rolls down as Ric Flair is seen inside.
| ‘Legend Killer’ Randy Orton | “I’ll see ya at Battle for the Gold, Goldy!”
Orton casually strolls out the doors as Goldberg watches. Randy opens the limo door and climbs in as the car drives off. Goldberg turns his attention back to the front desk. The secretary is on the phone as Goldberg waits impatiently for her conversation to end. Based on what the secretary is saying, it is obvious the call is not business related.
| ‘WIW Secretary’ Sarah | “The seven o’clock movie then?... What do you mean after the movie?... Well, we can go back to my place...”
Goldberg, obviously frustrated, interrupts the secretary’s phone call.
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Listen... I’m in a hurry. I was called for an interview so can you tell the interviewer I’m here?”
The irritated secretary lowers the phone.
| ‘WIW Secretary’ Sarah | “One moment... I’m on the phone.”
The secretary picks the phone back up and resumes her conversation. Goldberg sighs and walks away. Just then the elevator doors open as Jim Ross walks out.
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “Goldberg! You are here for the interview, right?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “That’s what I got called for.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “Alright. I’ll be conducting the interview. If you can give me a few minutes to set up, we can start shortly after.”
Goldberg nods his head to say OK. He then walks into the waiting area and sits down in the black leather chair. He picks up the latest WIW magazine and pages through it as the scene fades to black...
Scene 2
" Da Champ Is Here! "
The scene opens back up a few minutes later in a small room where Jim Ross and Goldberg are seated.
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “First of all, Goldberg, I would to personally thank you for coming and doing this interview on such short notice.”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Yeah... sure.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “Well, as everybody knows, this Sunday at Battle for the Gold, it will be you defending your Intercontinental title against John Cena. How big is this match in your mind?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “I think it will definitely be a good match, JR. I really am looking forward to it and I know it will give the fans what they want. I know that this match isn‘t the main event, but it will certainly be one of the best matches of the pay-per-view, that‘s for sure. There‘s been a lot of speculation about who will win the match so I‘m sure the fans will be excited from the minute the bell rings to the second that the winner is declared.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “What do you think about John Cena both in and outside of the ring?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “John seems to be quite an athlete. He always gives one hundred percent in all his matches whether he comes out victorious or not. I know that this will not be an easy win for me and I am prepared for that. Outside of the ring, Cena likes to trash talk his opponents through his raps. The fans find his raps quite entertaining and I’m sure that’s the reason he’s so popular now.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “Do you think John Cena is a better wrestler or a better rapper?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Heh, heh. Well, I guess we will find out this Sunday at Battle for the Gold just how good of a wrestler Cena really is.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “John Cena has said that he knows he can beat you. Do you think that he really can?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Well, if I said yes, then it would mean I am doubting myself which would probably cost me the match. But the answer is no, JR. I don’t think Cena can beat me. And I’m not saying this because Cena lost to the Big Show and I beat the Big Show... and I’m not saying this because Cena has a losing streak. I say this because I am the best that the WIW has to offer... plain and simple.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “How long do you think your Intercontinental title reign will last?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Well, it certainly won’t end this Sunday at Battle for the Gold. I really don’t know how long my title reign will last ‘cause I don’t plan on losing it.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “What...”
| ‘WIW Secretary’ Sarah | “Mr. Ross, Shane McMahon would like to see you. He said it’s urgent.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “I’m in the middle of an interview... tell him I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
The secretary leaves as Jim quickly finishes up the interview.
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “I wanted to know what is your prediction for the outcome of the Television Championship match that will happen at Battle for the Gold. It will be the champion, Batista, defending his title against ‘The Franchise’ Shane Douglas.”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Well, I have faced both men, but I was only able to beat one of them. Based on that, I would have to say that Shane Douglas will win. He was pretty much the only superstar in the WIW that I could not beat... but I plan on beating him soon. Anyway, Batista is in two title matches at the pay-per-view so I don’t think he can totally focus on either of the matches. So I predict that Douglas will be the winner.”
| ‘Good Old JR’ Jim Ross | “Well, I guess this interview will have to stop there. Sorry it had to be cut short. Anyway, is there one last thing you would like to say to John Cena before I leave?”
| ‘Da Man’ Goldberg | “Yeah. Cena, I know that you really think you can beat me. But you will be in for a rude awakening come Sunday. ‘Cause I will not leave that arena until I am declared the winner and until I have my Intercontinental title safe around my waist. I will go to great lengths to ensure that the title remains mine... greater lengths than what Cena is willing to go to. Come Sunday, Cena will find out that this whole week he has been dreaming that he actually has a chance at beating me. But, like I said before, he will be in for a rude awakening. Soon Cena’s dream will turn into a nightmare... but that nightmare will be reality. Cena, you’ve got it all wrong. The champ is right here!”
Goldberg looks at the camera as the scene fades to black...
