Sara Pettis | "We've got Tonight" |

"Welcome to New York." Sara says to Chris as they enter their hotel room in mid-town Manhattan.

"Wow, this is amazing Sara." Chris says, walking over to the room's balcony, "I can't believe you're floating the bill on this room. It has to cost a fortune."

"Well, not really. RWA is paying that tab. Its part of the perks of being a part of one of the main events." Sara tells him, opening the slider door.

The brisk, November, New York night air hits them both as they step out onto the balcony. Sara walks out and leans on the railing. Chris just stands at the doorway, and looks at Sara as she stands there. Even though they've just met, just over twenty four hours ago, Chris can't help but be intrigued by the young girl who is standing before him.

"Come on out here Chris. Come here and see the city." Sara says, waving him out onto the balcony.

"Nah, thats ok. I'm a California Boy, thats too cold for me out there he says."

"Oh come out, come look at the city with me." Sara says taking him by the hand and pulling him out onto the balcony.

"You just won't take no for an answer will you?" Chris says, finally conceding, and walking over to the edge.

"Nah, it's not like that." Sara tells him.

"Yea, well whats it like then?" Chris asks, putting an arm around Sara.

"I'm not some spoiled brat, if thats what you're thinking." Sara tells him.

"I never called you a brat." Chris says.

"You know, this is probably the most random thing I've ever done." Sara says, "I mean, inviting you to come here. Considering we didn't meet until just last night."

"Trust me, this is the most random thing I've ever done too. I mean, once me and one of my room mates drove to San Fransisco for a week on a whim. But I never thought I'd be spending a weekend in New York on a whim." Chris says.

"So whatcha think of the city?" Sara says, "This is your first time here, right?"

"Yea, it is. It's...really...cold." Chris says with a smile.

"Just ignore the cold. I mean, look down, theres Broadway down there, and Time Square just a little down the way." Sara says, "This is such a great city. I miss it sometimes out in California."

"Definitely puts Sacramento to shame. I'll admit that." Chris says, Hey, you think we have some time to go to some places?"

"Like where?" Sara asks.

"Well, what about Ground Zero. I always thought I should go if I ever made it out here to New York." Chris says.

Sara's face cringes, "I'm sorry, but I really don't want to go there, it's too depressing. Besides, I remember going there when those buildings were standing. I think if we're going to go anywhere tonight, we should have some fun." Sara says.

"Alright then, Ms. Pettis. This is your city. Where would you go?" Chris asks.

"I've got an idea." Sara says, leading Chris back inside, "But you better dress warm."

The scene opens up again, this time in Rockefeller Plaza. Sara is helping Chris walk on ice skates to the world famous ice rink. Once they get on the ice, he struggles to stay on his feet.

"Great idea, Champ." Chris says sarcastically.

"Oh come on, it's just like roller blading." Sara says, moving on the ice with relative ease.

"Sara, I haven't roller bladed since I was like, 12." Chris says.

"Don't worry, it'll come back to you." Sara says skating circles around Chris...backwards.

"How did you get so good?" Chris asks, as he slowly starts to get the hang of it.

"Eh, my Step-sister and I went through a 'Figure Skater' phase when I was little. Jane stayed with it longer though. But I still remember a bit of what I was taught." Sara tells, him taking his hand, "Really, its not that hard. Just glide, left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot. And slide to stop."

"Alright, I'll try to keep up with you." Chris says, looking down at his feet trying to keep in rhythm with Sara's.

"Don't look at your feet silly. Just look ahead, I'll slow down for you." Sara says, still holding his hand.

"Alright, but go doing anything fancy that might screw me up." Chris says, as the two skate along side each other.

"What, you mean like this?" Sara says, doing a quick spin while still holding Chris' hand. Chris wobbles a little at Sara's sudden movement, but he stays up.

"Yea, like that." Chris says.

"Oh, you're fine. You're actually doing a lot better then my ex-boyfriend did his first time skating." Sara says.

"What, you bring all your first dates here or something?" Chris asks, smiling.

"Excuse me? I didn't realize this was a 'date'." Sara says giving Chris another unexpected spin.

This time though, he doesn't even wobble, knowing how to shift his weight, "Well, then what is it?" Chris asks, smiling back.

"I don't know, lets call it a, 'semi-date'." Sara says, taking Chris' other hand, and swinging him so that they're now skating face to face.

"Semi-date? Thats a new one." Chris says.

"Well, thats because I haven't made up my mind yet." Sara says, swinging Chris so that they both do a spin.

Chris about falls, but regains himself, after the spin, "What was that? You trying to put me on my ass?" he asks her.

"No, I'm just...testing you." she responds with a mischievous grin.

"Great, and I didn't even get a chance to study...I'm gonna guess the answer is the War of 1812." Chris says, attempting to make a joke.

"Nope, I'm sorry, thats wrong, you failed." Sara says letting go of Chris and allowing him to slide backwards.

"Woah, hey, thats not fair!" Chris yells as he tries to stay up, and stop himself, before finally his legs slip out from underneath him, and he falls down hard on the ice.

"Whoops, are you OK?" Sara asks Chris, extending her hand to help him up.

"I think so, just a bruised ego. Nothing big." Chris says taking her hand. Sara starts to try to lift him up, but Chris jerks her arm instead and she too falls to the ice next too him.

"Hey! Careful! I've got a match tomorrow, you jerk." Sara says, pushing him.

"Yea, we'll I have a job interview tomorrow." Chris says, pushing back, both of them on the ice.

"Yea, well, you don't have to worry about a broken neck in your interview, or doing anything to make it worse." Sara says as she lifts herself back to her feet.

"Broken neck? You never told me about a broken neck. Why are you wrestling if you have a broken neck?" Chris asks.

"I had a surgery done. Trust me, I'll be fine. I was just giving you a hard time." Sara says, brushing herself off before cautiously putting her hand out again.

This time Chris takes it, and lifts himself back up to his feet. Again the two Sacramento State students begin to skate around the rink.

"So, how bout instead of going straight back to California after the match, we stick around here for a bit? I'll show you around." Sara says, as the two begin to skate side by side, hand in hand again.

"Sure, I guess thats alright. Its not like I'm missing any classes. We can get back to Sacramento on Wednesday, which will allow me to go home for Thanksgiving and everything." Chris says, "Hey, what are you doing for Thanksgiving?" Chris asks.

"I don't know. I guess I might stick around here. But then I don't know how you'd get back to California. I haven't really thought about it." Sara says.

"Why don't you come with me. My mom's side always has a big get together, and then later I go to my Dad's, and usually my grandparents, Aunt, Uncle, and cousins are over there." Chris asks.

"Wow, Chris. Meeting your family? Already? I don't know." Sara says.

"Well, didn't you plan on going home while you're in New York this weekend anyway, at least for a little bit?" Chris asks Sara.

"I guess so. I mean, I do plan on going to Ozone Park. I can't come to New York without visiting my Mom. I actually planned to do that tomorrow morning, while you're sleeping. I didn't think you'd want to go." Sara says.

"Nah, I don't mind. It'll allow me to see things no one else does in New York." Chris says.

"Are you sure? I mean. You won't feel weird standing in a cemetery while I 'talk' to my mom?" Sara asks.

"Nah, thats no big deal." Chris says.

"Wow, my last boyfriend never liked to go to the cemetery with me. He said it was boring, and creepy." Sara says.

"Your last boyfriend? Does that make me your current?" Chris asks.

"Sure, why not?" Sara says with a shrug, "You don't seem to bad."

"Well, for one, we haven't even been on a date yet. Since this is a 'Semi-date'." Chris says.

"Well, I just decided to officially upgrade it too a full fledge date." Sara tells him.

"Oh, really? Maybe I want this to be a 'Semi-date'? Maybe I don't want that pressure on this whole situation. Did you think about that, Sara?" Chris says jokingly.

"Well fine then. I guess it'll stay a 'semi-date' then." Sara says, letting go of Chris' hand, and folding her arms across her chest.

"Oh, come on now. Lets not be that way. I'm sorry Sara. It can be a date if you want." Chris says.

"Thats better," Sara says taking Chris' hand again, "Come on, lets go back to the hotel. We got a long day ahead of us tomorrow."

No trash, nothing more to say. Oh well. Its over rated anyhow.

Back at the hotel, Sara is getting read for bed. Chris is laying on the couch, with a blanket and a pillow. Sara walks into the room wearing a over sized RWA Crushed Dreams hockey jersey, and some athletic shorts. Sara looks at Chris, and smiles.

"You know, you really don't have to sleep on the couch. We can share the bed."

"Nah, that's OK Sara. If we share the bed, I don't know. I don't want to rush into anything. I'm fine on the couch. I mean, its not like I'm having to pay for a single thing right?" Chris says.

"OK, suit yourself. Goodnight Chris."

"*yawn* Goodnight Sara. See ya in the morning." Chris closes and mumbles, "Damn jet lag."

Sara walks over to the wall, and flips the switch off, making the room completely dark, except for the little bit of light from the city permeating the curtains in front of the slider doors. She climbs into bed, and falls quickly asleep herself, knowing full well she has a long day ahead of her tomorrow.

End...
