Sara Pettis | "Looking at the Past" |

The scene opens at CCWA&ICE, where a lot of these promos have been taking place lately. Today the place is full of rookies, all of which are waiting for a chance to spar with one of the vets who have been brought in too help today. Dan Lloyd has donned the wrestling pads again, and is currently working with a group in one of the two square rings on one side of the gym. Rico Smith is working with others in one of the other rings, and even former XCW Champion Ricky Craven, has come to teach some pointers, and scout talent for his own organization based out of Virginia. Strangely, Nathan Gust is absent on this day. But his niece, and opponent for this Friday on Inferno, Sara Pettis, is in the building. But she isn't training. Instead, she's in her own office area, on the phone with people from Twentieth Century FOX about her movie role. Out in the training area, Dan is teaching several rookies the proper way to take a chair shot, when the little bell that signals the front door opening is heard. Dan turns around casually, just to see who it is as he talks, and he stops, and his eyes get wide. The rookies around him all look, where he does, and begin to whisper amongst each other. Dan immediately stops teaching, and calls over to his partners.

"Guys, he's here." Dan says to Ricky and Rico. They look towards the front door, and see who it is.

"Shit, wheres Nate when we need him?" Rico asks Dan, as they all leave their groups and begin to walk towards the front door to confront the mystery visitor.

"Don't worry, we can handle it. Ricky, go back to Sara's office, tell her not to come out until Rico and I tell her too, ok?" Dan says to Ricky Craven as he and Rico go to confront the man.

"Can do guys." Ricky tells them, running towards the back.

Meanwhile, Rico and Dan stand side by side with each other as they approach the visitor. At this point, the entire academy has stopped doing what they were doing, and are focusing on the situation brewing. They get to the front door where the visitor is standing, and Dan is the first to speak.

"You have a lot of nerve to come here." Dan says to the guy, crossing his arms.

The visitor doesn't respond, he just starts to walk pass Dan and Rico. Dan grabs him by the shoulder, "Dan, please, I've already kicked your ass enough for one lifetime. Don't give me more reason too now."

"You have done nothing but avoided her ever since she was born. She's got a lot going for her, without any of your help. I'm not going to let you even try to ruin it." Dan tells him, "Kick my ass if you have too, you're not going to see her. Not while we're here."

The mystery man doesn't respond at first. He just looks at Dan, and Rico. "Does this clown speak for you too Rico?" he asks, with Dan still holding his shoulder. Rico looks at the man, and at Dan. And nods...

"Sara, Sara, it's him, he's here!" Ricky tells Sara as he barges into her office.

Sara obviously unknowing of whats going on, immediately gives Ricky the stink eye, while she continues to talk on the phone.

"No, this is serious. You know who I'm talking about, don't you?" Ricky asks her.

"Can you hold on for a second," Sara tells who ever is on the other end of the phone call,

"What are you going on about now? Who's here? Dad?"

"Um..." Ricky starts to think, "I don't know if thats the right answer or not."

"Is it Will Schorg or not?" Sara asks, covering the mouth piece of her phone.

"No, not Will Schorg...it's that other guy." Ricky tells her.

Sara's eyes suddenly get wide as saucers, "Why is he here?" She asks.

"I don't know, I came back here too tell you as soon as we realized who it was. Don't worry, we're not going to let him near you if you don't want him around." Ricky tells her.

Sara just nods blankly, before telling who ever is on the other end of the phone line, "Can I call you back, I've got some family issues developing." Before hanging up without getting an answer. "Did he say anything?" Ricky shrugs, "I don't know, but if you don't want to deal with him, we'll keep him away from ya."

Sara just nods, and Ricky leaves, closing the door to Sara's room behind him. Sara gets up, and walks to it. At first she goes to lock the door, but the noise outside causes her to crack it open, and peek out.

At first the noise sounded like a fight had broken out. But now, Sara sees that instead of any kind of fight, Ricky, Rico, and Dan are standing to the side, their heads hanging. She sees the visitor in question, and sees his mouth movement say, "Where is she?"

My whole life, I've wanted nothing to do with the Pettis family. I never wanted to be part of a group so despised, and backstabbing. I knew that there would be the occasional person who thought of me as only my last name. I know what my Uncle did. And for it apologize. But as you have said Jude, theres nothing I can do about it. I know you don't like saying my name. And I can't change what others with the same name have done in the past. All I ask though, is a fair chance. I believe I'm entitled to at least that. Please let me have a chance to prove to you, and to SFT that not all Pettis' are bad people. Just because a couple of them were assholes in the past. Do you think I take pride in being AMP's daughter? Or Michael's niece? Of course not. If theres one thing they have done, it's alienated everyone who has at one time or another called either of them their friends. I'm not that kind of person though.

And I'm not only here to bring up bad memories. Maybe what you should do Jude, is look past the name, and look at me. Could you do that please Jude? Look at who I am as a person, and not at the name I have on paper. And maybe instead of the bad memories, you can think about the good person I am. I'm not here as a Renegade to destroy SFT. I'm not here to spout about how my uncle attempted to destroy this place. And I'm not here to bring up the bad times. I'm here to do something I have always wanted to do. I'm here to accomplish something that I grew up wanting more then anything else. I've held the SFT Title before. I've held it while it bore my step-father's name. Heh, I even took it too school once to show everyone, for show and tell when I was little. And I want to hold it bearing my name. I want to know what it feels to hold that title after putting in the hard work. I want to know what it feels like to earn the right to hold that title, and to have a name plate on it with my name engraved on it.

Jude, you may not like because my name. But give me a chance, and I'll grow on you. I promise. I have that kind of effect on people. Once you have to finally stand across from me, you'll see.

And Nathan Gust, the man who has brought me to where I am today. You know how much I was hoping I would get to tag with you again? Last week, we did something I'm sure no one in SFT was anticipating, we beat Mason and DVD, the Immortal Icon. But alas, I guess it wasn't too be, since I have to once again tag with Havoc, as I did in my first match for this tournament. Nate, I know how much you want this title. And I'd be lying if I said you wanted it more then I do. You've been working for years to get to this point, and I know now that you're so close, you have to be getting tempted to do somethings. Tempted to throw away our friendship this Friday just to move to the last match. Tempted to give up on everything we've worked for. I understand, and I hope and pray you're stronger then that. I know you are Nate.

Nate, when Will was off being Aj Nin Red Rum, you were who I looked up to after mom left. Nothing you could ever do would make me not proud to know you. I just worry for yourself. I know the kind of lengths you'd go to be SFT Champion, and I know you'd be tempted to do things that would only hurt you more in the end. I don't want to see you in any worse shape then you already are Nate.

Sara's body quivers as she now stands face to face with the man she had, up until this point, completely fazed out of her life. It's been eight years since Sara last saw him, when he gave her up to Will Schorg following Becky's death. But now, here he is, Andrew Mitchell Pettis, AMP, her father. Her real father.

"Hey baby girl, you look surprised to see me." AMP says to Sara, looming over her.

Sara takes a few steps back from the doorway in which they are standing, and says with a quiver, "Wha...what are...are you doing here?"

"What, daddy can't come visit his baby girl?" AMP says stepping into the room.

"You're not my Dad, I don't even know you." Sara says, still backing up, and almost tripping over a chair.

"Hey, be careful...and thats no way to talk to your father, is it?" AMP says as he strolls around the room, looking around.

"What do you want from me? Why are you here?" Sara asks AMP has he walks around behind her desk, and pulls out the chair.

"What? You automatically think I want something? I can't just drop in and say hi to my daughter?" AMP sits down at the chair like it's his desk, "All the time I put into raising you, and this is the thanks I get?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Sara says, obviously upset by what AMP just said, "You didn't raise me. You abandoned me, when I need you the most."

"Is that what Will has been telling you all these years?" AMP picks up a wrestling magazine sitting on the desk, and starts to flip through it, "I'll admit, I may not be 'Father of the Year' material, but thats just harsh. Turning a child against their own father."

"Will didn't tell me that. I remember sitting in that court room in Missouri, and you gave me away to him" Sara says, "He didn't have to turn me against you."

AMP sighs, and nods his head, "Ah, yes. That whole business. Sara, do you remember anything about me from before that day?"

"Bits and pieces, but it doesn't matter. I don't want you, or need you in my life. You had your chance to be my dad, and you gave it away." Sara says, trying to make herself seem more confident and forceful, "So please, leave my office."

AMP doesn't react. He just continues to sit behind the desk, flipping through the magazine, he gets to a page, and begins reading. He throws his feet up on the desk, "Yea, this is the article I was looking for." AMP says to her, placing the magazine down on the desk, "Take a look at that."

Sara looks down, and sees a article about wrestling families. The Von Erichs, the Funks, the Harts, the Miavias. Sara looks up at AMP, and he turns the page. The next page. The Pettises. On the opposite side of the page, a photo shop picture of Sara, her Uncle Michael, and AMP take up the entire page.

"You're one of us kid. You've just been brainwashed into thinking you're a Schorg." AMP says, leaning back.

"Brainwashed? You're the one that wanted nothing to do with me. If it wasn't for Will, who knows what would've happened to me." Sara tells him, "I'm not a Pettis, I'm not petty coward who walks away from responsibilty."

AMP chuckles, "Listen kiddo, I know you've been told things, and force to believe them, so I'm going to let that slide. But I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk to me like that from now on. I'm not some stanger you know." he tells her as he gets up from the chair.

"But you are a stanger. I don't see you for almost a decade, and now you walk in, and I'm just supposed to respect you?" Sara says, "I don't understand how you could just walk away from me like you did."

AMP sits down again, and nods, "Understandable, but unfortunately, you've only ever heard Will's side of the story. Maybe if I told you my side, you'd understand a little more, and not hate me so much." he says.

Sara doesn't say anything at first. She just looks at AMP. He sits there, looking almost like he hasn't aged since that day. As far back as she can remember, she has only known that when her mother was alive, he never took responsiblity for her. And when she passed away, he went to lengths to give away any connection to her he had.

"I don't need to hear your words, your actions spoke for themselves. When mom was around, you made every attempt to make sure you made as little contact with me as possible. And when she died, and you had a chance to raise me as your daughter, you saw fit to just block me out. Just like your brother did to Kotomi. I'm not part of that family, and I don't act like part of that family. So, don't come in here, and tell me I'm a Pettis. I'm better then that." Sara says calmly, "You just realize that you could've had a good thing, and you let it slip away. So now you're desperately trying to get it back. But its too late Andrew. I may share your genes, but thats the only thing we'll ever have in common."

AMP shrugs his shoulders, "Ok Sara. I can accept that. But you need to realize something. Deep down, under all those layers of bullshit Becky and Will piled on top of you. You are a Pettis. And Pettises have a way of doing things. We get what we want, and I know there are a lot of things you want. Like the SFT Title. I'm going to go now, but not too far, because I want to be close by when you need me. And since the guy you do call your "father" doesn't seem to want anything to do with you at the moment, I'll be the one that responds when you yell for your daddy's help. I'll see you around kid." AMP gets up, and walks around the desk, picking up the magazine, "You know, I love that picture so much, I might just get it framed." He says as he leaves Sara's office.

End...
