~ I sat, exhausted, in my plane seat towards Texas. Tegan was next to me, already fast asleep. Her little body was curled up, and she was breathing softly. The black curls swept around her shoulders, and made for a make-shift pillow. She was such a pretty littlel girl. I couldn't believe that in a month, she'd be 2 years old. She was so smart for her young age, walking, almost talking. Using one finger, I gently pushed a lock of hair behind her ear. She didn't move. Yawning, I leaned back in my own seat and closed my eyes. Before I knew it, I was asleep, and dreaming... ~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Heather blinked as she stepped out of her cheap, Manhatten apartment. She pushed her black hair back over her shoulders. A soft breeze fluttered her designer, hip hugging skirt. She looked down and adjusted her brightly colored top, that totally clashed with her shirt. But as a New York girl, she didn't care. She was in style, she was sexy, and she knew it. Pulling out a cigarette, she lit it up and walked to the curb to call a cab. Several had passed her before one finally stopped. She got inside, and was immediatly bitched at by the driver for having a cigarette. Shrugging, she flicked it out the window, and informed the driver as to where she was headed. A few blocks later, so few that she could have walked, the cabbie pulled up to to a small diner. She paid him and stepped out of the taxi. She went inside and quickly found her three best friends sitting at their usual table. There was Lilly, her long blonde hair falling gracefully against her face. She was wearing a low cut, sexy shirt, and matching skirt to accent her fine body. Lilly had a care-free attitude, and was very free and open about her sex life... As most of the men in Manhatten already knew. But lately, she'd be steady with the man she whose acting career she was managing, Sean Jerrod. Next to her was the Pollyana of the group, Jennefer. Her shining brown hair was pulled out of her face in two barretts, and she was wearing a more casual, modest, yet stylish skirt and blouse. Jennefer was the sappy, romantic of the group, who had finally found love in her now husband, 504 Goldenblatt. Across from them was Heff, her short, fire-red hair sticking out, wearing a stylish business suit. Heff was a successful lawyer, and very independent. Even so, Heff had recently married the man she loved, and the father of her son, Formico Brady. Heather made her way over to them and sat down next to Heff. They smiled and greeted her happily. ~
Lilly Jones
Hey there, sexy! About time, what kept you?
Heather Bradshaw
Oh, you know. The column was running late, so I had to hurry up and turn it in before I started this weeks. Then Steve called, and started his usual bull shit about how he still loves me and wants me back. I swear, anytime that man senses I might be happy, he comes back in to shit all over it. Well, not this time.
Heff Hobbes
Thats the spirit, babe. It's about time you told Steve where to put it. So I guess this mean things are going well between you and Raz?
Heather Bradshaw
Yes... In fact, the lot of you are invited over to his place tonight for dinner. I think it's about time you guys met the man of my life.
Jennefer York
That's great that things are going so well! I knew that you'd find love one day. Even Lilly can't object to that one, can you?
Lilly Jones
I don't know what you're talking about.
Jennefer York
Oh, admit it! You're head over heels in love with Sean. You haven't been with another man since the two of you started dating, and that's saying something.
Heff Hobbes
Woman's got a point, Lil. Whats the scoop there?
Lilly Jones
Love is a very strong word. Him and me have great sex, and thats what the relationship is. I mean, okay, I might feel a little bit more for him than I have for any of the other guys I've been with, but...
Heather Bradshaw
Look at you, Lilly! I do believe you're blushing! Girls, I think our resident playa might have finally found the one she could settle down with... At least for this month.
Jennefer York
Everything is going so great with everyone! Me and 504 are looking into adopting a baby, and we've got a possibility coming up next weekend to talk. Lilly has finally found a man tht she loves. Heff finally let go of her fear of commitment and is now happy with Fomico. And now Heather is finally happen with her club owner/artist.
You know, I think this is the first time all four of us have had a serious relationship at the same time.
Lilly Jones
Oh, hold on girls, I'm vibrating.
Heff Hobbes
I thought I told you to keep your toys at home.
~ Jennefer and Heather laugh while Lilly flips Heff off. Heff reaches across the table and gently tugs on Lilly's golden locks. Lilly answers her phone, and while she's talking, Heather's own cell starts to ring. She checks it, and sees that its her boss, Eve Smith. There is a text, asking her to meet her for a quick lunch that afternoon, its important. Heather looks up just as Lilly is hanging up. ~
Lilly Jones
I hate to do this girls, but I have to get into the office. One of the new, young PR girls just totally fucked up a club booking, and I have to go in for damange control.
Heather Bradshaw
That's alright, I just got a text from Eve. She wants me to meet her for lunch, she says it's important. So I have to get ready for that and see whats up. Don't forget, dinner tomorrow night at Raz's apartment, 9 PM sharp.
~ The girls agree, then depart. Heather walks back towards her apartment, and on the way, gets a call from her boyfriend, nationally famous club-owner and artist, Raziel Petrovsky. Smiling, she answered her phone happily. ~
Raz Pretrovsky
Why are you not here, in my bed? You should be here where it's warm, not out in the city, all alone. And I need your help with making the dinner for tonight.
Heather Bradshaw
I'll be there tonight, babe. Don't worry about me. I'm meeting Eve for lunch, and then I have to go home and write my column. Then I'll be there, I promise.
Raz Petrovsky
You can use my computer here, if it gets you here sooner.
Heather Bradshaw
You would let me use your big, fancy computer?
Raz Petrovsky
I will... In exchange for one hour in bed when you get here, and helping me with dinner.
Heather Bradshaw
You drive a hard bargain, Petrovsky. But I do believe we've got a deal.
Raz Petrovsky
Good... So I'll see you soon?
Heather Bradshaw
As soon as lunch with Eve is over.
~ Heather hangs up her phone, and looks up to see another familar face. national party girl, Clio Masters. Clio spots Heather, and runs over to her, hugging her and kissing each cheek. Heather, not having seen Clio in a long time, is awed by the expensive looking clothes and jewelery she is wearing. Clio and Heather, though cordial, even partial friends, were always in unspoken competition with each other. Clio was everything Heather had once hoped to be. Clio was constantly traveling the globe, jumping from one wealthy boyfriend to another. Heather and Clio had known each other back when they were in college when they were taking the same journalism course, and even then, they competed silently to be the most fashionable, popular, and desirable. ~
Clio Masters
Heather, you bitch! Long time, no see, how are you?
Heather Bradshaw
I'm good... Wow, you look great.
Clio Masters
Of course! So are you still a writer?
Heather Bradshaw
Yeah I am. I write a weekly column for the Manhatten Dailey. It's called Sex and the City.
Clio Masters
Oh, how cute and clever! I will have to read it sometime while I am here. I stopped writing about six months ago. It just didn't inspire me anymore.
Heather Bradshaw
That's a shame, you had so much talent.
Clio Masters
Ah well, you know, constantly being abroad cuts into the writing time. So I just stopped all together.
Heather Bradshaw
Whatever makes you happy, I suppose.
Clio Masters
So have you heard from our other college buddy recently, Miss Star?
Heather Bradshaw
Nope... That girl just seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet.
Clio Masters
Oh what a shame! I just thought it would be really nice if the three of us could get together and hang out sometime, you know? Like old times, and catch up.
Heather Bradshaw
Yeah, the shame of it it. Well, I have to go, I'm supposed to be meeting one of my bosses for lunch, and I can't be late. But hey, it was great running into you.
Clio Masters
Always, darling, always! I will give you a call while I'm still here and we'll hang out before I leave again.
~ Heather nods and allows Clio to kiss her cheeks and hug her again. It wasn't until Heather was inside the restuarant where her and Eve were meeting that she realized she had never given Clio her number. Shrugging it off, Heather spots Eve sitting alone at a table. Eve was only 3 years older than Heather at most, and held a mature beauty. Her dark hair was in a graceful upsweep, her beautiful face showed not a line or wrinkle to betray her age. Heather had always secretly admired Eve's exotic beauty. Eve sat drumming her fingers, looking over Heather apraisingly before sitting up straight and speaking. ~
Eve Smith
Listen... As you know, my art display party is coming up soon... The one I'm hosting at my apartment for Vogue magazine. And, I want you to come and bring Raz with you.
Heather Bradshaw
Of course! Thank you so much, I'm sure he'll enjoy that very much.
Eve Smith
I feel stupid asking you this... But do you think Raz might have a friend for me? Ugh, normally I don't have a problem with being by myself, but lately... Everything about New York has become so couple-oriented. We can't even get a lunch without it being big enough for two.
Heather Bradshaw
Don't worry. I'm sure Raz has plenty of charming friends for you. I'll ask him about it tonight, when I see him.
~ Heather and Eve enjoy their lunch and conversate about more cheerful things after. Eve tells Heather about things at Vogue, and Heather tells Eve about her column. When the two finally departed, Heather caught a cab to Raz's apartment. She punched in the key code and the door swung open. When she walked in, she could smell whatever Raz had started making. She walked slowly into the kitchen and snuck up behind him. As quiet as she was, Raz heard her, and turned around to take her into his arms. She giggled and they started kissing passionately, their tongues waging war on each other. When the finally parted for breath, Heather sat down on one of the stools, and Raz poured her a glass of wine. ~
Raz Petrovsky
So how was your day?
Heather Bradshaw
The usual Manhatten mess. Oh, we've been invited to an art party that my friend Eve is hosting for vogue. She requested you personally, I might add.
Raz Petrovsky
Indeed? Then I guess we are going to a party... When is it?
Heather Bradshaw
Saturday at 10. The best of New York will be there, as will a lot of art guru's. This could be an excellent chance for you to publisize your lights display.
Raz Petrovsky
If we are to go to a party, the focus shall not be on me. I will wait until the proper time to speak of my art to people.
Heather Bradshaw
Fair enough, anyway, it was only a suggestion. Oh, and um... I was wondering, do you have any single friends.
Raz Petrovsky
Why, are you tired of me already?
Heather Bradshaw
Not hardly. It's not for me, it's for my friend Eve. She's is having trouble finding a date for this party, and asked for my assistance.
Raz Petrovsky
Is this how one finds love in New York nowadays?
Heather Bradshaw
She's not looking for love, she's looking for a date. It would just be for the night. She'd go alone, but as she explained, everything about New York has become so couple oriented.
Raz Petrovsky
I don't have any friends in New York, really. But I'm sure I can talk to one of the men I work with.
Heather Bradshaw
Thank you so much! And by the way, you do have a friend in New York. Me.
Raz Petrovsky
You are not my friend, you are my lover. And speaking of which, I have something I've been wanting to ask you.
Heather Bradshaw
I'm sorry, all my friends are taken. Wow... I've never said that before.
Raz Petrovsky
Heh, that is not what I was going to ask you about. My light show debuts in Paris very soon, and I was wondering if you would come with me to France.
Heather Bradshaw
For the opening? Of course I'll go, I've wanted to go to Paris for ages!
Raz Petrovsky
You misunderstand me. Of course I'd want you there for the opening, but I don't know how long I will be there for. I would want you to come stay with me.
Heather Bradshaw
You mean... Move to Paris with you? How long would you be there for?
Raz Petrovsky
I do not know. Six months, maybe indefinetely.
Heather Bradshaw
So we're talking a serious deal here. But... I have a life here. New York is my home, New York is me. I love Paris, but I don't know if I'd be able to leave.
Raz Petrovsky
I love New York, but you would love France so much more.
Heather Bradshaw
But... What about my column? My apartment?
Raz Petrovsky
You could quit the column. As for your apartment, I'll buy it so that it's owned, and you can come back whenever you feel you need to visit New York.
Heather Bradshaw
Oh god, this is so tempting. Please, just give me a chance to think about this.
Raz Petrovsky
What is there to think about? I'm giving you a place to live in France, you'd never need worry about a place to live or money again.
Heather Bradshaw
Yeah, but there is also my friends. I don't know if I'd ever be able to leave them.
Raz Petrovsky
You can't stay dependent on the love of your friends forever. And if they really care about you, they will be happy for you and give you their blessing to go. You know that.
Heather Bradshaw
I have to get ready. Please, just let me think about this.
~ Heather gets up from the counter and goes to the room her and Raz share. She looks at her dress hanging on the door and sighs. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever think a man would offer to move her to Paris. She thought wistfully of Steve, and how he had went to France. She felt sadness sweep over her, though she didn't know why. She had deleted Steve, she was done with him. She didn't care what he had to say anymore. He had already screwed up her life more than enough times. Pushing him out of her mind, she got up and started to get ready, as her friends would be there in an hour. She was just finishing up her make up when she heard Raz welcoming her friends into his home. She bounced down the stairs to hug everyone. Jennefer was there with 504, Lilly with Sean, and Heff with Formico. Her gay friend, Mike, was there as well with his actor boyfriend, Jacob. They all sat down at the dinner table, and the hired hand that night started serving their dishes. There was an awkward silence, no one really knowing what to say. Finally, Lilly, who never had a problem with starting random conversation, broke the silence. ~
Lilly Jones
I think my maid has been using my vibrator.
~ Everyone stops short of what they were doing and just stares at Lilly. Jennefer and Heff are trying not to giggle, and Sean has an amused look on his face. Heather steals a glance at Raz, and notices he looks slightly uncomfortable with the direction the conversation has taken. ~
Heff Hobbes
What makes you think she's been using it?
Lilly Jones
I replaced the batteries right before Sean left to shoot his movie. I used it only once every night, and I haven't used it since Sean came home...
Sean Jerrod
Aw, thanks baby.
Lilly Jones
Of course, dear. Anyway, I went to pull it out of the kitchen drawer to use it the other day...
Mikey Blatch
The kitchen drawer, sweetie?
Sean Jerrod
Oh, you should see some of the other places she hides it. That one is relatively normal.
Lilly Jones
I went to use it the other day, and the batteries were dead. The only solution I can think of is that my maid has been using it.
504 Goldenblatt
You know, if you can get proof that she used it, you'd have one hell of a case right there.
Heff Hobbes
Definetely, we could sue her ass for breaking and vibrating.
~ Everyone started laughing, but Raz. Heather let out an uncomfortable chuckle, even though she found the topic funny. She cleared her throat loudly to indicate a subject change. Formico was the one who took the hint. ~
Formico Brady
That's a very nice piano you have there, Raz. Do you play much?
Raz Petrovsky
Yes, I play from time to time.
Formico Brady
That's cool, do you know any Billy Joel?
Raz Petrovsky
Who?
Formico Brady
You know, Billy Joel...
Raz Petrovsky
I am not familar...
Heather Bradshaw
Raz is into the more classical Russian composers and stuff like that.
Sean Jerrod
Oh, thats cool. Did you play a lot when you were in Russia?
Raz Petrovsky
No, but perhaps I shall play more once the opening for my lights display in France is done with.
Jennefer York
Oh how wonderful! Heather, did you know about this yet?
Raz Petrovsky
Of course she did... In fact, she is going to come live with me in Paris.
~ A stunned silence hits the table as all eyes turn to Heather. Heather laughs nervously, and flicks her eyes back and fourth between Raz and her friends. ~
Lilly Jones
You're moving to Paris and you never told us?
Heather Bradshaw
No! I mean... I don't know, I only just found out myself before dinner...
~ The nervous silence continues at the group finishes their dinner. As soon as its over, the girls head upstairs to talk while the men stay downstairs for guy time. As soon as they are sure they aren't being overheard, Heff, Lilly, and Jennefer start bombarding Heather with questions. ~
Heff Hobbes
Are you seriously thinking of going?
Jennefer York
Do you think you might get married?
Lilly Jones
Does he have a guest room?
Jennefer York
What about your column?
Heff Hobbes
What about your apartment?
Heather Bradshaw
Stop... STOP! Enough questions, I'm not even sure if I'm going yet. He just sprung this one me two hours before dinner. Trust me, I've still got a million questions of my own.
Heff Hobbes
Sorry, but this is just so... Unexpected. You barely know him, how can you be sure it's going to last for you to go live in Paris with him?
Jennefer York
Oh, this is so romantic. I'm so happy for you!
Heff Hobbes
Are you sure this is the best idea?
Mikey Blatch
Can you girls please end this little session? I don't know how much longer I can pretend being "one of the guys".
~ The girls laugh and head downstairs with the guys. Not long after, everyone leaves. Raz and Heather head off to bed. Heather tries to go to sleep right away, but Raz begins kissing her neck, down to her chest, stomach, and lower. Feeling the rapture of the moment, Heather submits to his advances, and pulls the covers over their heads.~
*The next night, at the party*
~ Heather and Raz are standing with Eve. Eve is looking rapturously at Raz, and not at the man Raz set her up with, his friend from the museum, Jem Williams. Jem, to his credit, is trying his best to engage Even in conversation, but Eve would rather listen to the artist. Heather felt bad for Jem, so she talked to him for most of the night. She steadily grew more and more annoyed as she realized that she was on Eve's date instead of her own. She excused herself from Jem, and walked over to Raz and Eve, who were talking. Eve was laughing loudly, as if hanging onto everything Raz was saying. Raz smiled up at Heather when she came over and offered to get them drinks. Heather asked for nothing while Eve asked for a Cosmopolotin. As Raz walked away, Eve stared after him longily. ~
Eve Smith
He is such a great man... So charming and witty. Why am I not with him?
Heather Bradshaw
Because... I... Am?
Eve Smith
It's so easy for these younger women today. They can be successful, and still have men of all ages want them. But if there is an attractive, slightly oder woman who is successful out there, the men are just scared... I swim in a very shallow, small pool. Men like Raz are the type of men that women my age should be with.... So I ask, Heather, why are you swimming in my pool?
~ Heather doesn't know how to answer, so she excuses herself to the bathroom. In the bathroom is Clio Masters, the party girl. She is leaning over the sink, snorting cocaine. She's wearing a barely there dress, her breasts spilling out of the top. She looks up quickly, and smiles to see Heather. ~
Clio Masters
Oh, thank god! Close the door, quick. You want some of this?
Heather Bradshaw
No thanks.
Clio Masters
God, I don't even know why I came to this boring, shit hole party. All it is are old couples, talking about art. It sucks to be the only two single gals here, doesn't it?
Heather Bradshaw
Actually, Clio... I'm here with someone.
Clio Masters
Oh... Haha, fuck you!
~ Clio sweeps her mess off the counter and stumbles out of the bathroom. Heather stays in there for a moment for another moment before walking out. She is relieved to see Raz waiting for her, and that Eve is now sitting on the couch, engaged in conversation with Jem. Heather and Raz begin talking quietly when Clio walks over to Eve, cigarette in hand. ~
Clio Masters
Do either of you have a light?
Eve Smith
I'm sorry, there is no smoking in here, you'll have to go outside.
Clio Masters
There is no outside, it's fucking snowing.
Jem Williams
Excuse me, miss. You don't have to be so rude.
Clio Masters
Shove it, dick breath.
~ Everyone is now watching Clio, who is making a commotion. She stomps over to the window, and struggles to open it. As she smokes, she realizes that all eyes are on her. ~
Clio Masters
When did New York become such a shithole? New York used to be fun! What happened to that? Now all you see is couples all over the place, parties for stupid shit like this. Ha, I'm telling you what, New York is over. O-V-E-R. Mark my words. God, I'm so bored, I could just die.
~ Just as she speaks these words, she starts to move aside, but her heel gets caught on the curtain string. She slides, and before she can grab something, she falls out the window. Heather gasps loudly, as do all the women at the party. Heather buries her head in Raz's shoulder, not beliving what she just saw. Raz himself looks to be in total disbelief. The party was in an apartment, 12 stories from the ground. Jem walks over to the window and peers down. When he looks back at the party, his horrified look tells everyone exactly what they were dreading. ~
* In the Diner, the Next Day *
~ Heff, Heather, Lilly, and Jennefer are all gathered around their usual table the next day. Heather is recounting the story to her friends. They sit in disbelief for a few moments. Finally, Heff brings about the question that Heather was fearing she'd hear. ~
Heff Hobbes
So... Have you thought more about Paris?
Heather Bradshaw
I have... And I think that I really want to go.
Jennefer York
Oh honey, that's so great! When will you be leaving?
Heather Bradshaw
Next week. He needs to get there early so he can make the final touches to his display and get everything ready.
Heff Hobbes
But what about your apartment? Your column?
Heather Bradshaw
Raz is buying my apartment. He'll rent it out to people, and if he wants, he could kick them out just as easily. As for my clolumn... I quit.
Heff Hobbes
What?! But that column is who you are!
Heather Bradshaw
No it's not, Heff! That column is what I do, it is not who I am.
Heff Hobbes
No, but New York and everything about it is you! You can't just leave it!
Heather Bradshaw
Why not? I have wanted this my whole life! I finally have a man, who loves me as much as I love him, and he wants to take me to Paris and show me the world. Why can't you just be happy for me?
Heff Hobbes
What can he possibly offer you that New York can't?
Heather Bradshaw
Um, let me think... The world! Admit it, the only reason you are being such a bitch about this is because you don't like him!
Heff Hobbes
Fine! I'll admit it. He's arrogant and controlling, and he's gonna end up hurting you! I don't like him!
Heather Bradshaw
Then don't YOU go to Paris with him. I can't listen to this anymore, I'm leaving.
Heff Hobbes
Heather, don't do this, I love you! I'm only trying to stop you from making a mistake.
Heather Bradshaw
The only mistake I'd make is to not go.
~ Heather looks at Lilly and Jennefer, who look extremely nervous and fidgety. Her anger rushes in as she realizes they agree with her, so she gets up and storms out. She catches a cab to Raz's place and walks inside. He is sitting on his couch reading, but looks up and smiles to see her. Heather goes over to his window and stares at the snow that is falling softly. Not a soul is one the usually busy streets. There is no noise except for the crackling of the fire in the fireplace. She thinks about what Clio said before she died, and realized that Clio made a valid point. There was no more doubt or questions left. Turning away from the window, she admired Raz's profile before she answered the question he'd been demanding of her all week. ~
Heather Bradshaw
I want to go to Paris....
