Langley Class
The USS Langely, otherwise known as the 'Covered Wagon' was the first vessel that the USN could call a carrier. She started her life as the Jupiter AC-3 and was later converted to a CV.
Although its new designation was CV-1, it was later changed to AVS-5 as it was converted to a aircraft tender with the introduction of more powerful carriers, this ceremonial disgracing heralded her doom, as she was destroyed a week later ferrying planes to Saipan.
